Windowed/game lag? edit: USB Devices FIX INSIDE

After about 45 mins. of waiting here is the official word from Customer Support (PlayOnline).

Q. Have you guys hear of this issue?
A. No this is the first time I've heard of it, let me ask around (waits 15 mins). Ah yes we've been receiving calls about this today.

Q. So there is no answer to this solution?
A. What video card are you using.

A. I recommend you go to playonline under e-mail support to file a bug request. If we receive enough emails we can issue an emergency patch.

Q. Do people actually check that thing?
A. Yes.



So I recommend everyone to file an email bug report about this issue. If we're lucky we can get a patch fix by January.

Fixed for me by removing my Logitech Mouse/Keyboard. Couple of other people have said the same.

Are those wireless? I would assume it.

I have wireless KB/Mouse from MS. However I don't have them installed with the original CD they came with, just plug and play.

I don't have any KB/M wired but I have another wireless set i got free from buying something, those are Logitech, but have never used them.

Seriously, try unplugging any Logitech peripherals. The second my G15 goes back in the USB port, the FPS drops again.

The mouse is wireless, the keyboard not.

Edit: The mouse is having no effect at all, just the sexy keyboard >.<

quick Q, was DX9 introduced into this update?

Believe so, since they had said that the reason windowed mode was taking so long was that they needed to rewrite the engine into DX9. I assume that since we have windowed mode, it's in DX9 now.

By reading windower forums (and for the fact that windower still works) seems that they STILL are on DirectX 8.1

My game runs fine in any version. In non-windowed mode it seems fine, in windowed mode same but the gamma seems quite bright, and with version 3.26 it runs fine too, like nothing's changed whatsoever. Framerates are all what they were before.

I don't use Brandon's thing. The only plugins I use are Tparty and IME, and I do have datswaps. I run Norton too, but I haven't changed anything since update and obviously it was running fine before that. ;x Can't think of anything else (edit: in both windowed modes I checked POL in task manager and it was set to 'low priority' but I never changed anything there), but maybe that helps a bit.

My FPS was at 10-12. The very second I unplugged my G15, the FPS shot up to 30.

Fixed for me by removing my Logitech Mouse/Keyboard. Couple of other people have said the same.

unplugged logitech keyboard, working 90% better now (i miss UI mods >.>)
running at 17 fps now....not great but a lot better than the 3-5 fps before.

Information that may be useful
I found out what is slowing the system down
but I don't know why or how to fix

When I ran ffxi windowed, I looked at task manager
there was a new svchost.exe (windows service) running that was sucking up 10% of cpu or something
So I killed it, and all of a sudden the FFXI window started running full speed again.

However.

Once I killed it I got a dialog box that said "plug and play something has been stopped. Your machine will now be shut down (close)". In a minute my system restarted.

I don't know what plug and play device/service is causing the conflict, but I'm betting it's the cause of this problem. I can upload pictures if you'd like, but the change was very noticable. 5fps to 60 pegged for the minute that it lasted before the automatic shutdown occurred.

I know this information isn't very useful, but it's a lead.

Intel/Nvidia, runs like shit, even updated my Nvidia drivers.

edit: rest of my system is fine when the game is on, just the game runs at like 10 fps... even while in MH.

This is exactly what I am getting.

I should have realized it was related to the mouse when my cursor would disappear like i stated earlier, i have a microsoft wireless set, unplugged the mouse and running 100% smooth now.

It's not Windows Firewall or Security Center that is causing it.

Currently running Trillian, ATi Tools and Firefox. Nothing else.

Tried with S-E Windower and got lag
Tried with Unoffical Windower and got lag
Tried with no windower and got lag.

Priority for all of them is Low.
Affinity is CPU0 and CPU1.(Dual Core )

I have 28 Processes running, which is incredibly low with Vista. Also DCom Server Process Launcher is required by Vista. Almost everything uses it and disabling it will just make your computer reboot.

Tried disabling Catalyst AI, no change.
Tried changing from 2048x2048 to 1024x1024 background and still no change.
Unplugged Logitech Mouse(MX518 corded) and no change. No other Logitech components. No software from Logitech installed either.
Nothing wireless on my system because I hate wireless :D

UPDATE: I had the same lag problems with my nvidia 7900GTX card. My card had anisotropic turned on and the image quality to 'high quality'. I forced AA and Anisotropic to application controlled and reduced the quality to high performance. Low and behold I was able to log in with no lag in SE windowed and fullscreen modes. It actually runs better than it did previously. I have to play with registry settings again because I also rolled all those back.
