svchost processes typically contain multiple services. For example, MS released a buggy software update service a few months ago. Would crash on startup or hang a machine...if shut down, or crashed, it would take down other services under the same svchost, typically among them, print spooler. So I'd find a machine unable to print, among other things...disabling software update would mean the svchost didn't crash, and so the other stuff stayed on.
So it's possible the PNP thing is just another service running under it, not the actual issue. Though it could be.
I tried unplugging my G5 mouse, still had problems. Maybe needs to be prior to launching. I shall see.
