just confirming that unplugging the USB receiver for my microsoft keyboard/mouse did alleviate the FPS hit, gets it back to normal. time to rifle through some boxes I suppose.

I moved my mouse to a different USB port and my desktop works fine now. Strange because it's a older generic Microsoft mouse with no special drivers whatsoever.
My laptop framerate still sucks and I probably won't be able to do anything about touchpad drivers or whatever. I can live crappy framerate on laptop though since I only use it for ToD mules.![]()
I don't think its just simply USB. I switched to a Wired USB Logitech Keyboard and my FPS was fine. Only difference between the two keyboards was that one had extra goodie buttons the other had none(same with my mouse). So maybe its just SEs way to prevent people from getting their peripherals to repeat a certain action. If thats the case I doubt a fix is otw >.>;;
The only problem with that idea is that the keys still work, just that the framerate is screwed.
can't be... i have a HP KB/Mouse that came w/ my computer and has no extra stuf.... well... it does have Stop, Play, Prev, Next, Pause, Volume up/down and two eject buttons D:Originally Posted by Maimildre
also shortcuts to Search, HP CLub, Internets, Info and e-mail buttons... (is there a way to disable those?)
Same here. I'm using this old crusty, cat-hair filled, korean lettered keyboard I got from my ex years ago. Fucking SEOriginally Posted by Isiolia
For those of us with USB KBs do you think changing the drivers for the kb/usb would work? Or a settings tweak?
Those are goodies.Originally Posted by Lordshin
The Saitek Eclipse I has none of those goodies but it does have lights under the keys so it draws more power from the USB port than a normal keyboard. I should go grab a normal usb keyboard without any extra keys/goodies and see if that works.
S-E needs to learn to test their stuff a bit better, they are getting rather lazy it seems.
Mouse and keyboard can be the problem (any usb input)
In their defense, it's easy to see how something like this could have slipped. It's not uncommon for keyboard/mouse to be the same everywhere, and I doubt most programmer would even think something like this would happen, especially when itt was working before.Originally Posted by Larsa
Upgrading to DX9 probably changed how they handle the continous input from USB keyboard/mouse, and the game process is stuck reading that input. I'm certain it's easy to fix once you know input are the problem, but as a programmer, it's probably the last bug I would expect to see.
it's sounding like the bug is with non-bone standard usb drivers (as in, other than the native microsoft compatibility/plug and play ones)
which means anyone with a logitech/fatal1ty or other USB peripheral that uses a custom driver is likely fucked.
that's every input I have >.>; what's the point of having a precision mouse if you have to disable all of the features?
They learned from Microsoft. "Hey Everyone! Here's a new Windows we call Windows Bet... VISTA! That's right Vista." Why test when your player base can figure it out for you.Originally Posted by Taolynn
The priority is still an issue though, since doing anything in the background drops your FPS further. My game is running ~15-20fps in busy areas and doing something like refreshing a webpage will stall the program for a second or so while it does so, the game should be run at normal or high priority.
thank you to whoever discovered the fix ^^
everything is working fine after i change my saitek KB to an old ps/2 keyboard
my Razor DB(usb) still working fine with ffxi though
According to windower.net forums, they found that FFXI is still running on DX8. That and there was no mention of upgrading to DX9 in the patch notes, so I wouldn't count on it.Originally Posted by Kaylia
unplugged my G15 and G5 only improved my FPS to 8-9, Base FPS sitting at 3
Nah, I don't have any "special" drivers, the basic ones that are "Built in" does the trick.Originally Posted by Amele
weird, runs fine for me-- no issues.
I can resize just fine, pull it up and down etc.
Below 7 fps.
A crappy PVI, 1.3 Gz, 1Gb RAM (Sorry, don't know my videocard, but I know it's crappy as well).
Wireless keyboard wit USB port for interface, USB optical mouse. Unplugged the mouse, still below 8 fps, unplugged keyboard, ~26 fps.
Frames shot right up to 20+ when I unplugged my usb keyboard but seeing as how I don't own another working keyboard I'm shit out of luck.
Unplugging my usb mouse did nothing.
Really? Where did that dx9 came from anyway lol?Originally Posted by Lamente
Question for those that are using USB and have GOOD frame rates, what kind of mother board are you using? does it have hardware USB built in? or does it require the extra windows drivers to run the KB/mouse??
