As mentioned on Windower forums and now Alla, problems have been alleviated by disabling HID-Compliant Devices in Device Manager.

I use one of those for my keyboard.Originally Posted by jPuff
Problem not solved for me.
I'd link to the windower forum, but the site is down right now, so here's a qoute of a guy from alla quoting a guy from windower quoting a guy from some other forum:
The hardware IDs may not necessarily begin like that, I just disabled everything labelled HID-compliant device to test it out. FPS back up to 29, Keyboard and mouse (and other USB devices) functioning fine in a limited capacity.Found this over at a FEAR forum. I went in and disabled the so called HID-compliant devices but mine had different id's then the one shown in the quote. My FPS shot right back up to normal and I can still use my wireless keyboard and mouse. Hope this helps someone. Razz

You get a BIG drop in performance because you have one of these
device in any games that uses FEAR engine :
- G5 Mouse ?
- G7 Mouse ?
- G15 Keyboard ?
Here is the solution for you :
Go in "Device Manager"
Expand "Human Interface Devices"
Disable all "HID-compliant device"
where Hardware Ids begin by :
"HID\Vid_046d&Pid_c041&..."
How will you know the Hardware Ids ?
- Right click on the device and select "Properties"
- Switch to Details Tab
- Select Hardware Ids Property in the drop-down list
Enjoy!
i can vouch for that and say it worked... im so happy now xD
If SE wanted to see if you were running windower, they could check with a single line of code.Originally Posted by Fiofio

Posted this in tech support gonna try here as well:
Basically FFXI loads fine i can select character it loads up and directly after the "downloading data.." stops the vana'time will pop up then the error message. After fixing the lag due to the update by unplugging my mouse, changing my resolutions back to a standard res in the reg edits, and opening FFXI in full screen/windowed/Windower 3.3 I get stopped just as my character loads and get a crash message. I had visual basic on my computer a while back and for some reason just in time debugging stayed with it....heres a screenshot though i doubt its much use.

Any info would be appreciated as I was running the game perfectly just the other night and now i get shit.
Edit: Solution found under Brandson's fix thread.
wahoo! this fixed me. very glad i can keep using wireless peripherals for now. thanks for passing it on.Originally Posted by Goso
Same for me at first. After disabling something similar (listed as HID-Compliant Consumer Control Device, and turning out to represent the media keys on my G15) I got to 29. Hopefully SE can get a proper fix out sooner rather than later so we can all stop messing about with this.Originally Posted by Goso

Thanks a bunch, problem solved for a lot of folks here
Problem solved for everyone i passed the info on to. Just hope they fix it so i can get my Gkeys back
anyone with vista having these strange USB problems?
I'm using Vista x64, fully updated w/ all performance patches
I have not had any framerate issues with windower 3.3 after updating the game, though I haven't been anywhere except sky since logging in (capping evasion on my thief)
were the framerate problems people are having, occuring in all areas, even if there are 0 NPC's nearby?
Thanks for pasting this. The ID's were slightly different (Vid_045 instead of Vid_046), maybe because the problem was caused by my microsoft USB keyboard and mouse instead, but it still solved the problem. I didn't know which ones to disable, so I disabled them all. The last one cut off my mouse (gave me a warning first that I ignored), but the keyboard still worked, so I used that to turn the last one back on, and left the others disabled.Originally Posted by Goso
The HID trick "worked" for me but the game seemed to still be running slower than normal, at least 5-10fps. I ended up just logging, because I'm exhausted from trying to fix all the problems. They need to do emergency maint and patch this-- like-- now. Shittiest update ever.
omg thx for the help, FFXI is running smother then before
That "trick" disables the G15's macro keys. That's hardly a fix. ._.;
disabled hid and seems to be working thankyou guys ^^
no i just have to fix the dual display issues that came up when i updated graphics card ><
I have a Logitech USB wheel mouse that is listed as a HID with a hardware ID of VID_046D(yadda yadda).
I tried disabling it, but of course this stops the mouse from working, which is not a viable solution for me. It also did not improve my frame rate (11fps in mog house, wtf?), unless I'm supposed to relog after disabling the device. I think that'd prove to be an annoying task with no mouse, though.
Edit to add: The mouse has a worthless light that is powered off USB, so I'm sure it wouldn't work with a PS/2 adapter.
;( Dont have the options to 'Disable' /sulk ~ To early in teh am b4 work to fix tho ._.;! hope its fixed for when I gets homes <.<;
