As I said, it will leave basic keyboard and mouse functions working. That's it.

If you're using a USB controller and lagging madly, you're pretty much fucked. Still, you can try disabling everything else but the game pad and see what you get.

Found this over at a FEAR forum. I went in and disabled the so called HID-compliant devices but mine had different id's then the one shown in the quote. My FPS shot right back up to normal and I can still use my wireless keyboard and mouse. Hope this helps someone. Razz

You get a BIG drop in performance because you have one of these
device in any games that uses FEAR engine :
    - G5 Mouse ?
    - G7 Mouse ?
    - G15 Keyboard ?

Here is the solution for you :

    Go in "Device Manager"
    Expand "Human Interface Devices"

    Disable all "HID-compliant device"
where Hardware Ids begin by :

    "HID\Vid_046d&Pid_c041&..."

How will you know the Hardware Ids ?

    - Right click on the device and select "Properties"
    - Switch to Details Tab
    - Select Hardware Ids Property in the drop-down list

    Enjoy!

I consider this should be a sticky

By the way your mouse will continue to work correctly
Note: This will disable many extra functions, like extra mouse buttons but SHOULD leave basic KB/mouse functions working fine. Should be allowing people to actually play till this gets fixed. Please be careful and save a Restore Point or the like before doing this, or else if it does break something you'll have to Safe Mode and get things back to normal.

This just worked wonders for me :D

Already done before you asked- well, it's own topic anyway. Mods will have to sticky.

Re: Current Known Issues (Nov. 20)+All Worlds Emergency Maintena

this update killed ffxi completely for me... i'm on vista and when attempting to use windower like before patch i lag really bad regardless of usb shit/outside programs ect. when i actually enter battle my game gradually slows down more and then ffxi/my laptop kinda locks up for a bit. anyways after about 5 minutes of waiting i got taskbar up and closed down pol, tried to use the game without windower just the basic expansion and it told me that it couldn't initialize or understand directx3d

    so... i'm a bit stumped ; ;

Don't be stupid. They're enabling the expansion tomorrow. They don't have time to fix the patch.
