    Jada's Salvage Group needs help!

    Hi!

    Well 1st of all I would like to say that this site has alot of useful information. However, as i keep reading and reading and reading..... I find that some strats. conflict in one another.


    My group is a decent size and we have been doing just "ok" so far.
    I have to accomidate for people who don't come all the time too so I have about 15-16 people.

    From my understanding of reading you only need 6-8

    My goal now is to start defeating Bosses and Certain NM's taht drop lvl 25-35 pieces. (Im not going anywhere near Arrapago for a while)


    I would like someone to help guid me in the right direction with a bunch of questions I have and just help me out so I have a better head on my shoulder's when going in than what I have on there now.

    1 ) What are some set up's I would need?
    2 ) What area(s) would a thf be needed?
    3 ) Corsair useful if no Ranger or brd?
    4 ) 1st magic cell to RDMs or WHMs? (i hear both sides)
    5 ) What jobs are not useful in Salvage?
    6 ) Gears AOE pops out too much damage, how are they killed?
    7 ) Can you kill all bosses with 6-8 people?
    8 ) The Rampart that keeps popping out mobs in hopes there is a NM in there, how can you go through that with 6-8?

    Bard, healer x1-2, melee x3-4

    2 ) What area(s) would a thf be needed?
    Any area where you want drops

    3 ) Corsair useful if no Ranger or brd?
    Get a bard

    4 ) 1st magic cell to RDMs or WHMs? (i hear both sides)
    Rdm with phalanx 2 merited 2-3

    5 ) What jobs are not useful in Salvage?
    They're all useful to some degree (except pup!), but some are definitely better than others

    6 ) Gears AOE pops out too much damage, how are they killed?
    Use shellIV / shellV, reduce the number of melees in range to 3-4

    7 ) Can you kill all bosses with 6-8 people?
    All bosses are doable with 6

    8 ) The Rampart that keeps popping out mobs in hopes there is a NM in there, how can you go through that with 6-8?
    The mobs do like, 10 damage per hit. If your mages can't keep up with that, go do nyzul instead.

    what about the Frog NM's in Zahylom? 6- people? Really? Say if you fought 2 frog NM's would you have enough time to go to the boss?

    people have done four frogs + boss.

    If you are good, yes. My group does that regularly. Actually, we regularly port out with 30+ minutes left on 6F because we're capped on Zhayolm boss items.

    What about Hammerblow in Arrapago? How did you manage to pop him with 6-8? My people are forever dying.


    Im going after the Skadi's Body myself, how difficult is it to kill Bird NM with so lil ppl?

    Another question is what is the most eq dropped you seen on a regular run?

    I seen about 3-4

    former are very easy to kite, give someone with fast pants or feet and links are never an issue. make sure people not resting in kite path. whenever you pull former and imp links kill imp first and kite former.

    corsair is very effective, our ls normally lets me get 3rd ability after mnks cuz cor is 90 percent effective with just abilities unlocked. we normally have 2 mnk, brd, cor, rdm, whm. imo you wanna have the least amount of melee dd to avoid tp spam but buff the crap out of them so they kill stuff fast.

    give your brd magic and ranged asap, normally after first rdm or whm gets magic.

    And yes, Hammerblow is really easy. If you're having trouble with the 6 Fomors in the room, you could always use a Thief to pull safely. The momentary deaggro method works well, but I wouldn't recommend it until you've had some practice.

    Kiting works but can get messy, if you have Phalanx II have one of your tanks eat a Tav Taco, throw on whatever kinda defense they can, use full buffs, and straight tank every fomor at the same time. We usually use a Drk (who owns no defensive gear but uses Ares which gives nice defense).

    One formor at a time or does the pt take like 2?

    I have another question about bosses.. I know that they each have different things they do but are they handled quite the same?

    Killing the NM is easy. Popping the rampart is hard. With 4 DD its doable, and not too difficult if you stun restorals.

    Lv 15 armor is trash; the most lv35 armor we've seen in a run is 4, I think.

    Read the associated thread for each boss to learn specific strategies for handling them, then ask more specific questions.

    For Hammerblow we just have a THF with abilities, or someone with runspeed, aggro the fomor line and run back the way we came, toward the start. The melees tag 1 or 2 fomor, and the RDM kites/binds 1 or 2, and the other 3-4 chase after the kiter out of the room. They lose aggro soon enough and start heading back, but not after we've killed 2, so we're ready to either engage them or have the RDM start kiting/binding again. Just make sure your people know not to hang around on the path that the fomor will be coming back along. Even after doing this every time we usually have one magicless BLM sitting around when the fomors return.

    2 easy ways to lose hate on fomor while kiting.

    Method 1: Use hide while in white hp

    Method 2: Use a silent oil and walk up a bit, they lose aggro very quickly

    Or pull em using a range attack or blood aggroing em. I find the rdms have a tendancy to cast crappy things like bind and gravity on u and it really fucked up the puller.

    Blood Aggro, which is at 20.0, or range attack, which max range is 25.0 works very effective if ur puller is skilled enough. Losing aggro on them is pretty easy, I don't even need flee to lose aggro on em, just have to be careful on the way back, specially if u blood aggroed them.

    A MNK or two is the best, speeds everything up on the first floor so much that it makes more time for the rest of the run. Then RDM, WHM, BRD, THF and some DD.

    2 ) What area(s) would a thf be needed?
    THF gets first weapon out of the box just for Thief Knife if that gives you a hint to how important they are.

    3 ) Corsair useful if no Ranger or brd?
    Corsair is an awesome supplement for a BRD but not as good of a replacement. Bosses are all about relative speed of attack, BRD affects both player and boss speed greatly.

    4 ) 1st magic cell to RDMs or WHMs? (i hear both sides)
    Shit is situational? RDM generally, but my group prefers WHM because we are strong DD heavy.

    5 ) What jobs are not useful in Salvage?
    Any job that is played by someone that can pay attention. You aren't going to have anything go wrong because of a job that someone is playing, you are going to have something go wrong because someone is not paying attention.

    6 ) Gears AOE pops out too much damage, how are they killed?
    Decrease the TP you are giving it.

    7 ) Can you kill all bosses with 6-8 people?
    I wanted to comment on what Aurik said here. The bosses are killable by 6, if everyone is decked to the nine's and have relics, knows exactly what they are doing, are experienced in the fights and nothing goes wrong at all. For a newer group go with 9-10, extra healing is never bad.

    Unlike the last comment, I do agree with Aurik here, you really shouldn't have a problem with these mobs if people are paying attention. Also the Ramparts can't spawn more than 5 mobs at a time so its pretty hard to get overwhelmed.

    For Hammerblow, I just copy the best (Rukenshen). I just supertank them with DEF and DMG -% gear on my MNK. I just go in and body aggro them all, and as long as I don't turn any of them red I can be healed for no hate. With Phalanx, I never take above 20 damage, average is 0-10, only real fear is RDM spells so I tend to kite them until those are dead, then just stand there like a shmuck, while everyone else peels them off one by one.

    I used to think PUP is not the ideal job for salvage since they will require range/ammo/JA/magic cells for puppet to function properly. Last couple of Arrapago runs we have a member who has both PUP and BLM leveled and decided to come PUP. Cell drop rate was good so by the time we hit AC he already received magic/JA/range and INT.

    My eyes popped out when puppet landed FireIV on AC for 800+ damage. And nearly all his nukes landed full. Apparenlty the Scanner attachment allow puppet to identiry elemental weakness of their target. The last arrapago run we had a decently unlocked BLM whose Blizzard IV landed for 70+ damage few times X).

    Not to mention PUP can melee from the very beginning of salvage without weapon cells. BLM will just have to wait for the 4th or 5th magic cell to drop. Even if without magic cell, PUP can switch to range frame and use range attack on megaboss (my favourite frame <3)

    I have similar experience with PUP during Kirin fight before, PUP landed blizzard IV for 1k damage on Kirin >.> The only problem with PUP is their attacks are fairly random. Whereas BLM can stun mobs and help cure.

    @Jada
    Often when my WHM has no magic at the point I aggro and kite the Fomors around till deaggro while the group still fights some minor Fomor. Everything is possible if you know whats going on - only goes wrong every once in a while

    The key to stop sucking is practise... over and over. If you wanna be successful in Salvage grow a thick skin now and kick the whiners out early before you invest too much time into them.
