    macro books and text commands

New text commands have been added:
    ?/macro
Individual macro books or sets can be selected by combining the "/macro" command with the "book" and "set" subcommands.

    Example:
    To select Book 15
    /macro book 15
This is slightly a rant, but more of a cry to SE to change something--

In order to change the book via text command, you have to type the book #, despite the fact that SE gave us the ability to name the books what we like.

So rather than typing "/macro book rdm", we have to know the # of all the books if we want to type it fast...

Also, yes, i know -- you can change it through the menus..

Anyone else find this to be another thing SE overlooked?

I sat there for about a half hour last night in LS going "WHY THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT NOT WORKING" then I only found out today after calling up my friend and asking him how the hell he did it.

Why not make a macro within your macro that points to the macro you want to use?

Just remember the fkn number, jesus christ.

What I am setting up, have a macro set that links every set, and make the same macro on every page link back to that macro set.

maybe it is because i have not played with the new macro system enough yet but personally i think the whole macro thing is a complete waste for me. I was never running out of macro sets when we only had one book i was running out of lines in individual macros. they should have added more lines to each macro in addition to making the books! /rant off

Yep exactly what I did for BLM and its pretty convenient. Have my default macro set, and 1 macro button saved to bring me to another set with Obi's equipped, then it automatically brings me back to default macro set when I cast any spell.

Sounds like What I am doing.
The last sheet (10) of all books will link to the other 19 books with Echo Macros letting me know which number I am on and which Job set that book is for.

Re: macro books and text commands

Bit of a moot rant, each book supplies more than enough macros for you to designate one per job so you'd only need to actually switch them infront of the moogle and that's it.

Otherwise, I overlooked the possibilities of the set command, thanks for bringing that up Aurik.
(time to rethink all my gear-swap macros <.<)

Re: macro books and text commands

So with a little help from people I figured out a sorta easy but complicated way to have enough macro lines for a complete gear swap!

For my THF I have Book 3, and use Macro sets 2 and 3 in this book. Every single macro is identical in both macro sets besides 2 of them which are my TP gear macros and my WS macros. This is how it goes.

    MACRO SET 2
    /equip head ""
    /equip ear1 ""
    /equip body ""
    /equip hands ""
    /equip ring1 ""
    /macro set 3

Now when I hit this macro it will change my gear then instantly switch me to my other macro pallet which looks like this.

    MACRO SET 3
    /equip ring2 ""
    /equip back ""
    /equip waist ""
    /equip legs ""
    /equip feet ""
    /macro set 2

Now for this to work properly you have to hit the same macro twice. Which is better then trying to hit two different macros. Also to make this easier, make sure every other macro is identical to the other. I.E. For my THF, SA and TA are both in the same macro on both pallets. This just lets you continue doing your job on w/e job you may be on w/o having to think to much XD!

I haven't tried this out w/ 3 macro pallets, But I believe I will have to with ninja, it has complete gear swamp while tanking tiamat. It should work, I'll keep you updated!

This could never beat Windower macros but its a decent alternative for now.

Silly question- if I'm transferring macros from an old FFXI computer- what and where do I copy from -> to?

Re: macro books and text commands

What I kinda wanted was to be able to do this:

    /macro book 1 set 2

Why? Cause I wanted to make 1 macro set be a 'menu' set, and my macro books right now are set up by job, with sets for each appropriate SJ (ie, I have a THF book, with THF/NIN, THF/WAR, THF/SAM, and THF Dynamis). I would have like to make a macro set devoted to selecting between each job combo.

Oh, and let us name each macro set, that would be mighty swell. Overall, though, this is a huge improvement over what we had before.

Re: macro books and text commands

    /macro set #
    /macro book #

    That works in that order/etc.

I was worried it might change to one or the other, but it worked just right.

Nice little bit of code there.

Re: macro books and text commands

Damn, should have thought of that... I figured once you changed to a new book, the macro would stop running (I guess I was thinking of macros like functions and the like, where as they are just a series of instructions to execute, no matter what book they are on.) Thanks!

Np, was like the first thing I tried as I was sitting there talking to a Smn friend about the options.

He dug the idea of having one main macro set with all the Avatar summoning macros, and inside each summoning macro was two lines that sent you to a dedicated book for BP's, and the appropriate set for that Avvy.

Re: macro books and text commands

I wish they would make a command that would let you activate a macro.
For example "/macro alt 1" would be the equivalent of hitting that macro and let you link multiple macros together.

    ALT 1
    /equip head ""
    /equip ear1 ""
    /equip body ""
    /equip hands ""
    /equip ring1 ""
    /macro alt 2

    ALT 2
    /equip ring2 ""
    /equip back ""
    /equip waist ""
    /equip legs ""
    /equip feet ""
    /macro alt 3

    ect.

    Afk, botting lol.

except for the part where you have to keep hitting the macro for it to work which in this case would be the same thing as just having one macro.

I think he meant having a command that uses the next macro button, so it would just loop back on itself over and over again, unless I misread and he was just saying to put the cursor on that button.

You can get the cursor on the button just by mirroring the macro layouts on the different pages.

Ah you're right. I thought you were quoting Demian. Didn't even read Cookiemonsters post.
I shouldn't have taken this for granite.
