That's pretty much what I meant
I can think of all sorts of programs that I could write using macros able to do this which could let me do stuff like autofarm, automine, autofish, bot Guild NPC's, what have you.

Thats pretty lame, is there anyway to disable commands like /fish ect when used in the same macro as "/macro ctrl #" or whatever.

That's the least of the problems.

I could find a spot, like say, the leech pond in Pashow.

Set myself up in the right spot, and have a macro like this.

    Ctrl 1
    /targetnpc
    /ja "Provoke" <t>
    /wait 1
    /attack <t>
    /ctrl 2

    Ctrl2
    /target npc
    /ja "Provoke" <t>
    /wait 1
    /attack <t>
    /ctrl 1

With some auto-regen gear, you could just leave yourself AFK, even better if you have a program to sort your inventory, or just come back now and then and sort your inventory.

Yeah, you'd miss some mobs, but you'd just stand there voking anything in front of you, killing it, and then voking the next thing that came in front of you.

Find somewhere that an NM will pop, set up one or two characters like this to cover the spawn points, go afk and come back to see your new prize.

Re: macro books and text commands

I am setting up my macros in a different way...

    WHM Book:
    Set1 (Healing)
    Macro 1 (Healing) /macro Set 1
    Macro 2 (Divine) /macro Set 2
    Macro 3 (Enhancing) /macro Set 3
    Macro 4 (Enfeebling) /macro Set 4
    Macro 5 Empty
    Macro 6 cure /ma "Cure" <t>
    Macro 7 cure /ma "Cure III" <t>
    Macro 8 cure /ma "Cure V" <t>
    Macro Alt 1 blindna /ma "Blindna" <t>
    Macro Alt 2 cursna /ma "Cursna" <t>
    etc.

    Set2 (Divine)
    Macro 1 (Healing) /macro Set 1
    Macro 2 (Divine) /macro Set 2
    Macro 3 (Enhancing) /macro Set 3
    Macro 4 (Enfeebling) /macro Set 4
    Macro 5 Empty
    Macro 6 /ma "Flash" <t>
    Macro 7 /ma "Holy" <t>
    Macro 8 /ma "Repose" <t>
    Macro Alt 1 /ma "Banish" <t>
    Macro Alt 2 /ma "Banish II" <t>
    Macro Alt 3 /ma "Banish III" <t>
    etc.

    Set3 (Enhancing)
    Macro 1 (Healing) /macro Set 1
    Macro 2 (Divine) /macro Set 2
    Macro 3 (Enhancing) /macro Set 3
    Macro 4 (Enfeebling) /macro Set 4
    Macro 5 Empty
    Macro 6 /ma "Regen" <t>
    Macro 7 /ma "Regen II" <t>
    Macro 8 /ma "Regen III" <t>
    Macro 8 /ma "Haste" <t>
    Macro Alt 1-6 Barspells
    etc.

    Set4 (Enfeebling)
    Macro 1 (Healing) /macro Set 1
    Macro 2 (Divine) /macro Set 2
    Macro 3 (Enhancing) /macro Set 3
    Macro 4 (Enfeebling) /macro Set 4
    Macro 5 Empty
    Macro 6 /ma "Bind" <t>
    etc.

I can hit Control+3+9 to haste someone, then Control+1+8 to Cure V... alternatively I can hit Control+2,Alt+1 to cast banish 1 and skill up my divine. This makes mapping my spell shortcuts and keystrokes very easy.

edit- I made this handy printable reference sheet in word (am using a fancy condensed version of it now) ...

Re: macro books and text commands

Neat idea, I'll have to think about what I can do for when I use Great Sword versus Great Axe, before I just went in and commented from Steel Cyclone to Ground Strike, but it takes a bit longer to comment in and out now.

who else is in love with the new macros as much as I <3

Sooo many places to do anything I want, and not a single peice of overlap. I made RDM specific nuke sets yesterday since I do have access to good gear but wasn't able to use it properly due to running out of macro room, now I've got it all, many hearts.

Re: macro books and text commands

It would be easy enough to allow calling one macro from another, and simply detect and prevent loops. This would benefit most players (breaking unintentional infinite loops...every coder does it sometimes) and not hand new weapons to others.

I haven't tried making "new style" set-changing macros yet, and I worry about the lag that happens when changing macro sets on the PS2. Has anyone used this for actual timely things (Lullaby, cures, Utsusemi, etc.) on a PS2 and found it workable? Admittedly I could test it myself, but I'm currently on a farm through Thanksgiving and didn't really have time before I left. Yay for my expansion being delivered on time, but me not being able to use it anyway.

To be honest, I was thinking the same thing when I heard about it, the lag when switching macro sets/books is gonna fuckin' kill.

But to my surprise, I get 0 lag, even switching sets manually, it switches really smoothly, and doesn't lag. This new macro system is quite nice.

Re: macro books and text commands

Im not sure why you cant cut and paste anymore... now you have to copy, paste, and go back and delete the copied... Seems they added another step just to be jackasses. They could have left cut and just added copy. If they would just give us 10 line macros it would be much more useful then giving us 20 times more of the same. This new book thing may be good for mages but it is pretty useless for ppl who need 9+ line equip macros many times a fight.

I agree, not being able to cut is annoying -_-

Well boredom led me to trying to make my macro book switched special(lol)
