Re: Dual instances of windower freeze: is this happening to you?

Same thing for me, was helping out with Diabolos Prime and getting the error nonstop(I permanently had a red dot on one of my 2 characters, whichever wasn't in focus). I had previously been in whitegate, but restarted computer before entering and continued to experience the problem. My computer isn't great by any standards, but all graphics are set to minimum(500ish pixel resolution is HOT btw, reminds me of SNES).. 6 characters in shrouded maw with Diabolos hardly qualifies as high lag imo.

It was happening to me too. I was able to do what I needed to do (was just trying to get some items off my ps2 mule while it updated) but it was a complete pain in the ass and froze for a few seconds after every single little action. Like I'd put one item in the trade window, then it'd freeze, then I'd have to wait 3~5 seconds or so and then finally I'd be able to move the selection to the next item slot.

Re: Dual instances of windower freeze: is this happening to you?

Finished Diabolos and warped out(HP windurst), and problem stopped. Asked a friend to come with me for Brothers(normally duo it with my 2box, but this had me paranoid) and it was fine all the way up to Bearclaw Pinnacle.. as soon as we approached the wind pillar it started again, finished and warped and it continued in windurst this time. Neither character has been in whitegate for roughly 3-4 logouts.. if its triggered by certain zones there are a lot of them but overall I'm assuming its something else. Going with a previous post that mentioned priority, maybe they added code to lower its priority if there are other programs using high amounts of resources and its not active window to help with the ridiculous system resources their windower takes up. This is the best idea I could come up with, though I'm not all that computer-savvy >.>

Re: Dual instances of windower freeze: is this happening to you?

More info that may or may not be useful:
Restarted computer completely, logged Thorny on with official windower to test, no lag.
Logged alt on with good windower, both characters at Port Windurst home point, no lag or FPS issue.
Walked to MH, changed gear around, zoned Thorny out to Windurst Woods to use LotW npc, alt FPS plummeted as soon as Thorny zoned into woods, changed to alt window and Thorny's(on official windower) FPS dropped to nothing as well.
Crashed alt on purpose, reopened from the start.. FPS still dead when not in focus on both.
Crashed alt again, restarted Thorny only, FPS still bleh but from how shitty official windower is not absolutely dead like when 2boxing ;x
Going to stick with my earlier post and assume its deliberate prioritizing to try to make their windower tolerable, as opening a few other progs at once also killed Thorny's FPS

Re: Dual instances of windower freeze: is this happening to you?

I think this may have something to do with how the application priority is set, and the source of the problem is apparently SE's new windower code. Priority is apparently very high if foreground app, very low otherwise. There's a discussion of it here:

    http://www.windower.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10949

If this information is correct, a fix may be in the works.

I'm not too good at coding but that's my understanding of the situation, hope it helps. ^^

I have a question: For those who were experiencing it as well, did one or both of your characters happen to zone through Whitegate? I am beginning to notice a pattern with mine... I was fine earlier so decided to try again to do more enmity tests. I had to take my alt through Whitegate to get him home to Windurst and then Ashira's window started to freeze every time I was in the alt window, but the alt's window never had problems when I was in Ashi's window.

Yesterday, when either would freeze as I switched, both accounts were in Whitegate.

Earlier today when I never entered Whitegate, both windows were completely fine.

Just want to see if it's the same pattern for everyone...

Mine froze when I was in Thickets fighting a Skoffin.

    Temporary Fix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/S...rdian-XP.shtml
Fugly as hell, but its freeware and uses next to no system resources.. just set it to change POL.exe from Below Normal priority to Normal, and from Idle to Normal then run like usual and you're good to go.

Testing my self duo, seems to be working fine, without any goofy fixes, just plain old windower 2.6

Re: Dual instances of windower freeze: is this happening to you?

There any possible way we could load FFXI with a /HIGH or /NORMAL flag through command line instead of using a 3rd party app to force it? Figured it'd be kinda tricky since you use windower to load pol.exe instead of loading pol.exe directly.

Like I said before, I'm not that computer-savvy but I'm sure the folks at the good windower can make a good fix for it. I know its a pain in the ass to use a 3rd party app but it worked for me and I'd rather have some sort of fix than be d/cing constantly everywhere =|
