What say you. Rate this TV.

Ive been looking around for a new TV, comparing BestBuy and Newegg mostly, but I found this gem on CNET.

    VIZIO VX37L - 37" LCD HDTV - $799.99
    http://www.vizio.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=16
    http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/ ... oplay=true

For that price, I think this is the best deal i've yet to see for what that range can offer. I think im going to purchase this unless someone can convince me otherwise.

While im at it, anyone know of a good 22'' PC monitor?

That's pretty tasty for the price.

Vizio makes decent if not good LCD TVs. That price is decent, as long as you're happy with the size. You only get 1366 X 768 resolution and no 1080p. If that doesn't bother you, then go for it, you'll be happy.

EDIT: I'm in love with the Samsung 226BW monitor, its beautiful and I've had no problems with it. It has over 1000 reviews on Newegg and has a 5-egg average despite some controversy with the model being manufactured in non-samsung facilities not working out of the box. Afaik that is not a problem any more, and it's currently onsale with a rebate for under $300.

the allure of a low price is strong but every one i've cross shopped with the "premium brand" LCD's and Plasmas found them sorely lacking in picture quality in practice despite what they are rated at on Paper.

The Sony Bravia and XBR line are my first pick followed by Sharp's Aquos the difference in price and actual Service/Warranty experience from major first tier manufacturers more than make up for any price discrepency to me. Furthermore the TV is not typically replaced every year or two if you get a quality set where the "value" merchants are more or less disposable set in particular if you need post warranty work done on them.

Home theater gear should be like clothes, don't buy it without seeing it side by side with it's compeition.

Is this for TV useage exclusively or will you also be hooking up your pc to it as well?

Im fine with 720p atm, the TV itself will be somewhat far away, so it wont be a huge deal.
It will be used as a TV only; movies, TV and games.

As for the monitor, thats some nice specs for that price.. im considering http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824252008 for my monitor atm.

Normally I would, I usually dont make higher end purchases without doing so, but it seems I cant find this TV in any store.

Online reviews and customer feedback is really high for that TV, so I was considering breaking that rule

If you can't find it in the stores I'd pass it up, again purchasing home theater gear should be done after checking things out in person.

    specifically:

Next up, Vizio HDTVs. Here is what appears on its website, with bold added by the HD Guru.

    ”Service Labor
During the one (1) year warranty period, VIZIO will provide, when needed, service labor to repair a manufacturing defect at its designated service center. To obtain warranty service in the United States, you must first contact VIZIO Technical Support via email at [email protected] or via phone at (949) 428-2525. The determination of service will be made by VIZIO. PLEASE DO NOT RETURN YOUR UNIT TO VIZIO WITHOUT PRIOR AUTHORIZATION.

    Service
During the one (1) year warranty period, VIZIO will, at its option and sole discretion, repair or replace defective parts, which may be new or remanufactured, including replacement of the entire unit. The Customer will be required to ship the product to the service center indicated by VIZIO when the return authorization is provided. The Customer is responsible for all transportation charges to the service center. VIZIO is not responsible for the de-installation or re-installation of the product.

    Packaging and Shipping Instruction
When shipping the product to an authorized VIZIO service facility, the original carton box and packing material, or an equivalent as designated by VIZIO, must be utilized.”

According to Vizio, all TVs 37” and larger must go by truck to California. Fed Ex Ground from NY to Vizio in Irvine, CA is $88.95 for its 42” LCD TV and $108.95 for its 50” plasma. You threw out the TVs packing carton? If you are in the warranty period, it’s no problem, Vizio will ship you a new cardboard box at no charge (according to its CS rep).

If the Vizio flat screen breaks after the one-year warranty expires is where it gets expensive. The prices are shocking.

For any Visio 42” LCD, the carton and packing material with shipping is $300. Its out of warranty service is at a “Flat Rate” of $300 parts + $140 labor. Outbound shipping (FED EX ground) to Vizio cost $89. For return freight, Vizio charges $250 bringing the total cost of an out of warranty repair cost a staggering $1079. The current cost of a new Visio 42” LCD at Circuit City is $1099. Think of it, twenty bucks more and you get a brand new disposable TV with a new one-year warranty. What a deal!

That part of it sucks, but on the Vizio website, they did update a bit for the better. I looked over about 10 more sites and there were alot of reviews and all positive.

I did manage to find the TV at a Circuit City, and really it looks fine. The guy did say Vizio's return/fix policy sucks, but alot of people still buy them and are fine. Vizio is actually the #1 company in sales this year, but im sure that doesnt factor in problems and returns.

If you saw it in store and are satisfied with the picture quality compared to the others and are aware of the procedure for warranty repairs that's all that matters!

    Enjoy!

i actually have a 37" vizio lcd that i got a little over a month ago, i've had no problems with it and am absolutely loving it. 720p and specs that match that, only difference is mine was a completely black case and was $769.
