Download the CD

First, you need the CD. The good guys at Blue Gartr are hosting a torrent seed, so we'll get it there. (it takes a little bit, so we'll start here first)

Download bit torrent (I used the official one, I have listed where to get), next download the seed (right click - save as) it should be a file 15,481 bytes in size. Next, open bit torrent, theres an icon on the tool bar - far left - add the seed file you downloaded, and it should bring up another box that you can select what files to download, select them all and continue. There are a good number of people hosting these files (myself included for the time being) so it should go pretty quickly. The disk is about 370Mb total.

Note: My download actually got to 100%, but wasn't really 100% complete (it was still going very slow - 1 of the files wasn't completed). I checked the integrity of the cab file, found it to be complete, and checked to make sure no data had been added to any of the *.exe files (such as virii). After that, I installed it, seemed just fine to me, not exactly sure what was missing. this is just for your info - I'm a torrent noob, figuring this out as I go. I couldn't figure out how to get bit torrent to tell me what file was actually incomplete.

Edit the Registy

Now theres a lot of talk about it being EU version disk. Don't worry, we'll setup the registry to have both EU and NA entries. The EU entries are only needed for the install, thereafter are not used. But don't worry, they will not interfere with FFXI, etc.

Windows XP users only

So lets setup the registry, copy and past the following lines into notepad, and save it with the file extension .reg ie FFXI_EU.reg After you have saved the file, right click it and click merge. This will merge the data here into your computer's registry, parallel to the entries already in there for FFXI. (assuming you have JP/NA version installed)

NOTE: XP64 users be sure to check out Lyle's replies and add Wow6432Node to the hkey appropriately.

NOTE: This is default installation on c:\ if you have FFXI installed on another drive, change all c: to the appropriate drive.

Just the stuff between the lines here - copy past into notepad - save as FFXI_EU.reg - then merge

If your scared to add this to your registry and think it might mess something up, make a restore point first! (XP only I think) This will in fact back up your registry.

Instruction on how to make a restore point, and how to go back to that point:

What if I'm not a windows XP user? - Start menu > run > regedit > menu bar, Edit, Find > search for "PlayOnline" > at each entry point (highest level) ie on the folder to the left, right click and export > find the file you exported and open it with Notepad, change all PlayOnlineUS to PlayOnlineEU > Save the file > Merge it into the registry. If you can't follow that ;; I'm sorry, probably shouldn't be playing with the registry.

Install WoTG

Ok, so at this point, the disk should be downloaded, the registry entries should be in place, and your ready to install. I don't know much about bit torrent, but it put the downloaded files in:

E:\Documents and Settings\Dami\My Documents\Downloads\FFXI_WOTG

Run the file that is called: Setup.exe - installation should start

It will install much faster than you might expect - its normal, your installing it right of the HDD, plus its only 370Mb, so its much smaller than previous expansions.

Register WoTG

After installing, you need a WoTG Key. All keys are the same, they say there is something to do with regions and these keys, but I haven't seen this myself. It seems there are plenty of xbox copies out there, just buy the xbox version, and use that key.

Just like all the other expansions, enter pol, and enter they key into pol, then go to play the game and it will start to download the rest (though an update).

utorrent 1.7.x+ and Bittorrent (bittorrent now owns utorrent) has spyware now if im not mistaken, you should use uTorrent 1.6.1

yes, uTorrent 1.6.1 ftw. also, people may be scared of your guide because it looks like it takes 1hr to do (if you compare it to the short one posted). of course it's not, but maybe fallso should edit this into his sticky post at the end. or make a link to this one, as step-by-step guide. something like that.

Yes they can be deleted after installation.

Someone asked where I got the values from ~ my response:


They are the values taken from a freshly installed FFXI (ie all default).

I copied these values from another project I was doing (getting FFXI to run on a 64 bit platform - the installer of course didn't run, so I had to manually install everything).

These are ALL the registry values for FFXI/POL/TeraMaster, not all are technically needed to install WoTG like this, but it doesn't hurt as we place them into another location of the registry, than the US version does. ie It won't mess up your settings - such as where you place your POL window.

Technically I think you only need to do the following lines:

I just put everything in there, as if you had a full copy of the EU edition installed. It worked dandy, so it made it to the guide.

These lines placed into the registry are only used for the installation, and thereafter can be removed. However, theres isn't a easy way to remove them (easier to just leave them be), you can open regedit, search out PlayOnlineEU, and delete them if you wish.

I'm very cautious as to what I install on my PC, I did not notice any spyware/etc. I'm leaving the guide as is, since I have made the pictures as such, and it took a good bit of time. If you follow it, it will work, and thats what really counts.

I don't use bittorrent really, this is my second time. Next time I will check out uTorrent. Seems to be the obvious choice around here :D

not even. Just keep both in the registry file as it's completely harmless and will not cause collisions.

People understand notepad, copy, paste, not everyone knows regedit. This is a guide for those that don't know how to do it.

I did this, and now after accepting the whole "I promise not to fuck up my life for FFXI" thing it says "Expansion pack data has not been installed. You cannot enter new areas that require the expansion pack data."

What went wrong?

EDIT: Nvm, I figured it out. Got mine on E drive. Yeah, I'm stupid.

Ok, was able to download and edit registry successfuly. However, when I try to install it, it says that it cannot find the game.

I don't have FFXI installed on the C drive. Is there a way to make it look in another drive?

Edit: I double checked the new registry input to make sure it was right.
