This was a very long time ago, but I was told that H2H skill did up the base damage of uppercut when you are unarmed. The acc went to shit, but you could hit harder. Was used to explain some horn breakin attempts gone bad (imp died from too much damage) on the silver-seas route imp.Originally Posted by Tonko
Regarding NPC Tucker in Crawlers' Nest [S]
After accepting the SCH quest, he tells you that one of the professors came to talk to him and said that an adventurer would be by looking for Vellum. He will Trade you 1 sheet of Vellum for 12 Rolanberries. He also says that he will take up to 4 stacks of berries at a time.
However, it could be a bug or something... But I was only able to get 9 sheets of Vellum from him.
Initially, I traded 1 stack of berries because I was uncertain if the vellum was stackable. I was treated to a short cs regarding the state of the rolanberry fields and the method of preservation by crawlers. He haded over my 1 Vellum.
I traded 4 stacks of berries, he said, "You kept your end of the bargain, time for me to keep mine." I received 4 Vellum (5 total now).
I traded 4 more stacks of berries and got another cs. This one had him say that he is now out of vellum, but he has quite a little pile of berries. He then says how he wonders where you managed to get so many berries in wartime, then he says he doesn't want to know. At the end of the scene, I got 4 more Vellum (9 total).
Now he won't take any more of my berries. When talking to him he says to say hi to the professor. I have zoned out, waited for day change, logged out, nothing makes him take my berries any more.
I imagine if I had traded 3 times with 4 stacks each time I would have gotten 12 vellum, so I guess I am stuck buying or synthing 3 more.
Using this method will cost you a little over 16k for 12 vellum if you buy the berries in the Duty Free shop in Jeuno.
While the recast timer shows 12 minutes (even by using a macro), you can actually use your Strategem again using a macro once you're back to -1 charge, after 4 minutes. Still, I agree with your sentiment - it's not a particularly impressive xp/meripo job. It should be able to hold its own for a while in xp, possibly as a WHM replacement if subbing /WHM for status cures (well..some of them), but ultimately I think it will never be a smiled upon job for meripo. Again though, like you said, it does have some potential in end-game activities, and its usefulness as a mage sub, especially right now with the broken Strategem counters, should not be overlooked.Originally Posted by Otaku
I'll probably only level it to 40 for now, play with the level 40 Strats a bit and see how my invites go. As AF and merits are released for it hopefully there will be some improvement a la PUP, at the very least.
I've noticed that when I activate Light Arts the MP costs of my black magic spells all go up, but the costs of the white magic ones stay the same. Didn't see any mention of it in the wiki so I thought I'd stick it here.
Stickied as the new scholar topic. Don't fuck this one up.
Any of your White Magic spells that cost over 10 MP should go down 1 (20-29 MP going down 2, etc). It's supposed to be a 10% adjustment depending on which one is open - I'm pretty sure both worked fine for my wife but I'll have her check in a little after this claw drops.Originally Posted by Dominious
You judged this job while you haven't tried those damn helix at all.Originally Posted by Otaku
And .. later on there maybe more equipment that have their own latent/hidden proc on weather effect.
Has anyone located the weather and helix spells yet? Where to get the scrolls, how much they cost, MP cost, duration, recast, etc, would all be nice to know.
Sch is a mage - so he will never be totally out of work!
Ok, thanks. I'll have a look at Barstonra before and after Light Arts then. I possibly only looked at Cure/Dia/Protect and saw them all unchanged and thought that all my WHM spells were.Originally Posted by Wizerd
EDIT: I just checked as BLM/SCH with Dark Arts and it did reduce the casting costs, it brought Warp down to 90 so it must be 10%.
Edit of the edit: I used Parsimony and it brought Warp down to 50. So the half casting cost of spells is instead of the 10% reduction, not in addition to it.
Editv3(sorry about this): BLM/SCH Dark Arts -> Parsimony -> Warp only used 25mp, so I assume Conserve MP kicked in on top of Parsimony.

they all cost between 30 and 60k from that NPC, so I have a feeling they drop elsewhere.
everything else about the spells has been posted or is impossible to tell until someone levels scholar that high
Regarding the NPC in crawlers nest for Vellum:
I think you can only trade him 3 times in total. When you trade him only 1 stack every time, you will end up with 3 Vellum and he tells you he ran out of Vellum. Trade 4 stacks of Rolanberry every time and you'll get 12 Vellums.
I just used Astral Flow for the Scholar quest and it worked, so ANY 2 hour with a lasting effect should be ok to use, Invincible, Perfect Dodge, Hundred Fists, etc. Only "instant" 2 hours won't work, like Familiar, Mijin Gakure, Eagle Eye Shot, etc.
Anyone check the MP costs on the helix spells yet? Are we looking at "Tier IV" style MP costs for initial damage + big DoT?
pretty sure in another thread it said they cost something like 280MP each... but dont quote me on that o.o
I just saw a Scholar NPC in Campaign cast a Helix; it did very little initial damage (50ish) but the DoT was about 1% of the campaign mob's health per tick.

I tried Soul Voice last night, and unfortunately it didn't work. Seems it can't be any 2 hour with a lasting effect. It's weird though, someone mentioned blood weapon working earlier and yet soul voice won't which I find a little strange.Originally Posted by MaachaQ
Oh well sucks to be me- brd was my only high lvl job with a 2hr that has a lasting effect so I get to sneak my way there on a lowbie job. ~.~
