Fuck buying a nice HDMI cable. Last I checked it's a digital signal, meaning its 0 or 1. Buy a cheap ass HDMI cable for like $3 instead of that $70 bullshit at Best Buy. Exact same thing.
Same for those optical sound cables.

I don't know much about A/V shit. Is this true for all digital cables or are you just blowing shit out your ass?Originally Posted by Milks
Try HVD.
Currently a storage medium that can currently hold 3.9TB with 1GB transfer speeds, there are plans for it to be used as an UHD Video container. These disks have the capacity to utilize the 4,320p|60|22.2 format out of the box. Thats a res of 7,680 × 4,320 (16x 1080p) @ 60 frames a second with 22.2 audio channels.
VHS to DVD was a jump, DVD to BR or HD is not a jump, you can still get 1080p quality with a DVD and a HD player. HVD is the future, screw these half a step better formats. This is HD.
Granted that this is still a couple of years away, the players and disks are currently a fuck ton expensive.
HVD will make your eyes bleed.
I'm not an expert but in general I think this is true. You probably don't need expensive digital cables unless you're wiring them through walls and high interference areas.Originally Posted by Izzy
I think there are bandwidth concerns too but I haven't had any problems with monoprice (cheap!) hdmi cables.
I bought the "official" Microsoft $100 HDMI cable when I got my 360. Next day I found $2.5 cables on amazon and ordered those and they worked just as good as those expensive ones. Needless to say, I returned that shit right after that.Originally Posted by octopus
ROFL good to know. I will be buying a short HDMI cable for <$5 then to hook my laptop up to the TV lol.Originally Posted by FireCrystal

It clarifies that you have too much time on your hands to be able to dissect one innocent line I write not trying to offend anyone and start calling me names. If someone is going to make the argument right now that HD-DVD has more staying power than Blu-Ray given the current situation then they are in fact idiots. I will defend that statement.Originally Posted by Correction

Right now as far as HDMI is concerned grab the cheapest possible cable if you are doing short runs (shorter than 15-20FT). I work for a low voltage cable manufacturer, and tried to get my company into manufacturing HDMI.
The shit is all made oversees in any of the 5 main manufacturing facilities in China currently running this. The only reason 1 brand is more expensive is b/c you're paying for the name on the cable. I wouldn't touch anything aside from Ultralink (Monsters largest competitor up in Canada) for runs over 20FT.
For the most part I agree, however if HDDVD can stay priced lower then bluray with a bunch of big titles from their supporters and multi-format supporters, it's going to be a lot closer. With that said, I hope multi-format supporters die a horrible death. They only prolong the format war and for what, a few thousand more sales?Originally Posted by Andarvi
Also that whole HVD thing isn't worth it, 1080p is the most you'll ever see from home TV's. So until they start installing movie theaters in your living room get used to bluray and/or hddvd. For computers and gaming the sky is the limit though.
Staying power for a new format is not about which major media corporations stand behind it. Historically speaking it's been porn and pirates that tell you which one has longer staying power, which is why we still use CDs and DVDs with HD video media now entering the end of its second year of existence on the commercial market.Originally Posted by Andarvi
And your assertion that the PS3 install base is going to tip the scales of the format wars is 100% speculation. But apparently taking that position makes me an idiot according to your initial salvo. But hey why read threads that give reasonable advice like 'buy a dual player when you can afford one' when you can pretend good advice didn't exist before your post extolling the virtues of the One True Path?
Not true yet again.Originally Posted by Fhqwghads

Just because TrueHD is mandatory doesn't mean that all HD DVDs have a TrueHD stream. Same goes for Blu-rays and PCM streams.
Then there is the case of encryption. HD DVD has silly AACS keys which have already been found, which allow HD DVDs to be backed up. Blu-rays on the other hand have a new encryption called BD+ which is basically a Java virtual-machine that obfuscates the bitstreams of the audio and video, which, as of yet, hasn't been cracked, preventing the Blu-rays with BD+ to be backed up/reencoded.

and with the advent of the internet this will not play nearly as big a role.

and a perfectly legit one that you are one of the first people ive ever heard actually imply it is not.

wtf?
Porn industry to release their first blu-ray movie! Ironically enough, it will be called Pirates!Originally Posted by Correction

Normally, this isn't worth the bump, but I thought the shear irony was worth it.

Both formats put out the same quality picture, but due to the Blu-ray sales lead HD-DVD (Toshiba) has had to drop players to bottom prices out of desperation.
Still a good couple years before there will be a definitive winner though, maybe after paramounts 150 million exclusivity deal with HD-DVD runs out Transformers was the only movie I actually wanted in HD haha fags
I only use my ps3 for blurays lol... >.>
On the whole HD-DVD/Blu-Ray debate, has their been any big-name companies yet to sell higher-end PCs with an HD-DVD drive included? All I've seen so far are just Blu-Ray drives on upper-end Dells.
As much as I want HD-DVD to win (I was personally hoping PS3 would bomb tbh when they announced the initial price-tag, so it couldn't help BluRay sales), things are looking fairly grim unless Toshiba can make the players just as affordable as your typical DVD player.
(cheapest one I've seen came about $150 Canadian at a WalMart)
Haha, same here, now I had to get it on DVD.Originally Posted by Mysterio
