Seeing how PS3 is considered a factor in BR sales, you can't really rule out the 360's HD add-on as a contributor to their respective end. Wouldn't call it nearly as drastic, but something to chew on.
Overall, I just think it's silly.

I don't know, there's a difference between a system that has it built-in, and a $180'ish add-on that has no effect on the games you purchase for the system itself at all.
(now if Rockstar made GTA4 HD-DVD only then that'd be a different situation)
I am going to just end up buying my parents a HD DVD Player since the movies out on it now are movies that they would watch. If in the future Blu Ray is the winner, oh well. I will probably get them one of those later on too haha.
You do know all 360 games are on a regular DVD right?Originally Posted by Kaisha

I'm aware, I was stating that if a game for some reason required HD-DVD on the 360 and was an actual worthwhile title, it'd possibly jump-start the HD-DVD sales due to many gamers shuffing out for the add-on.Originally Posted by Mysterio

A Ps3's a pretty safe bet for a bd player since even if by chance hd-dvd wins over blu-ray, any software for Ps3 is natively BD and with its record (my ps3 plays the few Ps1 games I still have), the eventual Ps4 will still be able to play your 'obsolete' library of BD movies. As such, technically BD can never really lose.
and if that were to happen, ps4 would be insanely priced, being able to play both formats(as if sony doesnt like to jack prices anyway)Originally Posted by Amiricle
Format war is pretty much over now. Blu ray has disney, gathering porn, and now has exclusive rights to warner bro's.

I can't see much of a future for HD DVD
The fact that Toshiba canceled their program at CES really shows how bad they are taking the WB news.
EDIT: For those who, like me, were severely disappointed that they couldn't get Transformers on Blu-ray, Michael Bay posted this on his forums just recently.
"Well another studio down. Maybe I was right? Blu ray is just better. HD will die a slow death. It's what I predicted a year ago. Now with Warner's down for the count with Blu Ray. That makes it easier for Wal-Mart to push Blu Ray. And whatever Wal-Mart pushes - wins. Hd better start giving out those $120 million dollars checks to stay alive. Maybe they can give me some so I can give it to my Make-A-Wish charity, just to shut me up. Have faith people Transformers will come out in Blu-ray one day!"
blu ray also got New Line announced just after the warner announcement
finally matrix collection on blu ray also yay
Hey Takioni =)
Good to see a bluray Transformers might still be happening, but I already got it on DVD. About a year ago I actually wanted HD DVD to win just because it was region free (fuck Sony for putting Europe in the group with South Africa), but oh well, some blurays are even region free, so it doesn't matter much. Seems I don't have to buy a hybrid/HD DVD player now either. Which is good for me, because I didnt want to fork out cash for one after my first PS3 broke.
So go bluray! =D
Wasn't Matrix announced for both formats like 2 years ago?Originally Posted by Takiwaki

This looks shopped... I can tell from the pixels and from nobody ever getting a Guard skillup ever.

Matrix' may have been announced, but as of yet there is no release date set.
late to the thread, but according to what i gather, HD DVD is almost dead, and blueray is the way to go with all the movie studios changing their allegiance.
This was actually quite evident from the get-goOriginally Posted by finale23
very few in the industry saw HD-DVD overtaking Blu-ray due to the sales lead blu-ray had.
got this info from engadget.com
"The Financial Times is reporting that Paramount is preparing to use a get out clause in its HD DVD exclusivity deal, and go back to Blu-ray, about 4 months after ending its dual-format release schedule. The move would be a result of Warner's switch to Blu-ray, using a "get out" clause in Paramount's promotional agreement with the HD DVD camp. No details on what it might take to rip up the contract and make Michael Bay very, very happy, but if the rumor proves true this could make the slow death he predicted for HD DVD a very, very fast one."
LOL
Not surprised, pretty much a given.
Actually called it on the previous page of the thread, but anyone could have predicted it from the get-go. It really wasn't a matter of "if" more of "when".
Turns out Paramount wasn't totally out of their minds when they signed the deal.
