    Re: Blu-ray or HD DVD?

Exo is what politicians call a "Flip-Flopper"

How in the flying fuck do you know the PS3 is hard to develop for?, are you a programer? you know how to code? are you even in the gaming business?
If you are using observations made by third parties, cause every one know somethingsomethingblog.com automatically equals journalistic credibility, most that are rumors/gossip/fanboy/biased reviews than you are part of the problem and not the solution

You are posting PS3 flaws which were/are minimal, in a thread where the subject matter is dealing with movies/bussiness/corporations, and not video games (mind you, theres a 200+ thread where you post regularly about gaming)

    Thread: Blu-ray or HD-DVD
Posters: Some for Blu-ray, Some for HD-DVD
Exo: PS3 = no games, hard to develop for, I own 3 consoles (so my say in this is just/unbiased)
    Me: /facepalm

We get it, you wasted $500+ on a machine that isnt superior/matches a machine that cost $400+
PS3 was a waste for you, the 360 is where its at
360's has the games/achievements that drive your gaming needs, the PS3 has no games. none whatsoever
Praise from you is a 2 way street for the PS3, from enjoying/beating/experiencing some great titles that you have played and praised, then turning around saying the direct opposite about lacking a game library
360 on the other hand is the reall Highway to success, cause everything MS has done is right, hell the system is flawless....oh wait

Even the "Kiddie" console that people portray as a 5min fun experience, has even outpaced both the PS3/360, and it even has to deal with worse conditions than the PS3, yet it sits atop in the consoles wars

PS3 game library is a diversified/genre encompassing system

Resistance (New Maps via Expansion + updates to balance community issues)
    Heavenly Sword
    Folklore (New Expansion packs)
    Ratchet & Clank
Unreal Tournament 3 (Mods/Mutators from the community)
    Uncharted
Warhawk (New Maps via Expansion, New Vehicles/Skins + updates to balance community issues)
Motorstorm (New Maps via Expansion, New Vehicles/Skins + updates to balance community issues)
Most of the PSN games, Everyday Shooter, Super Stardust HD, Flow, Pain

Then you have all the add-ons for games to keep them going for along time

Educate yourself as a gamer on facts/details before posting

Especially if the chart that VGChartz put out a week or so ago is anything to go off of even though some people claim the numbers are randomly generated.
If VGChartzz were legit, they'd be used by legit gaming sites, but you'll never see a gaming site source vgchartzz because it's bullshit. Most gaming sites would have exploded if the ps3 outsold the 360 in Dec (still possible but no one knows yet). They've had a bad history of predicting then altering their predictions to match/close to real numbers. However the chart you posted is probably legit since their old data is generated from legit #s from NPD/mediacreate/charttrack.

Bluray didn't win because it was the superior format, it won because Sony was willing to sacrifice their dominant gaming division, and willing to acquire a movie studio to win. Without the PS3, bluray would have lost, superior format and all. Probably a good move in the long run, depending on how long it takes Digital Distribution to take over.
Well, when you find those legit numbers that you used to post with an amazing frequency put them up so we can know the real numbers.

In the US Internet Speed = a commodity, and not a necessity because of big business

I mean Japan has T1+ speed, hell they have G3 (soon to be G4 I think), but over in the good ol' US we are still stuck in the "Broadband" age, Cable <=> DSL debate of 2003

I think Discs will still be around for along fn time

I will stay old school, unless its the only option of just haveing a virtual copy due to Digital Distribution, but I would like a physical copy of what ever I have so atleast I can see it, touch it, and can get something in return for it
I can see your point but I think the times are changing faster than you think. I heard on the news earlier in my car that at the CES event, I believe it was Comcast, announced plans for implementing some sort of wideband system where a full high-def movie could be downloaded on demand in just under 4 minutes.

Digital Distribution is already here though, so I'm not sure why you'd doubt it. Just look at Steam on the PC.

One thing I noticed on the PS2 DVD player is how the picture will lag behind the sound a little bit, or vice versa. Stopping the movie and then starting it from the same spot would synch it back up, and then you'd have to do it again in about another hour.

How is the PS3 with the Blu-Ray? Are there similar synching issues?

Digital distribution is never going to make physical mediums obsolete, there is a satisfaction and sense of security in knowing that you have something physically that is not there with DD.

Id choose a physical copy over a digital any day of the week.

Even that BluRay is pretty much the winner now (even Microsoft is going BluRay lol..), I think alot of people still wont/dont care. Most everything (probably 98%) will still be released on DVD for atleast the next 5 years. The average consumer isnt going to buy a 600$ player + 30~40$ movies when they can get near the same thing for a tiny fraction of the price.

Hell, I still buy VHS and just bought a VHS/DVD upconverter, unless you have a home theater system (and im talking about the nice kind) or a PS3, theres really no need for bluray.

You're right, the average consumer wouldn't pay that much. While high end BD players may still be over $600, you can find players for $300-$400 and that price is fastly dropping. I've bought all my BD movies from amazon, and haven't paid over $19 for one, I've even got 2 used ones for $12 each.

And then watch them put crippling bandwidth caps and network trafficing in when they realize they can't supply the bandwidth for the demand, even when you're paying for 'unlimited'.

I don't see digital distribution taking over until ISPs get their thumbs out of their asses and are able to provide a clean network that doesn't bog-down during prime-time.
(paying for 'upwards of' speeds bug me)

    Re: Blu-ray or HD DVD?

    ^You misunderstood, mate.

In order for digital distribution to be successful, it would have to be available and affordable. Yes, it may be available in the near future, however, who will be able to download HD content of that magnitude? People with extremely fast connections, this is based on the assumption that one would be able to dl a lossless HD movie in 4 min. In order to increase availability of the faster speed connections, infrastructural changes need to be made. I simply don't see a rapid change in infrastructure to implement faster lines, such as optic in the US of A. The USA is what, about 9.5 Million Km^2? vs Japan's 380 thousand Km^2. As you can see it was much easier and cheaper to implement that in Japan, and it will be a greater feat for the USA.

Even to this day there are many rural areas in the US without cellphone signals, let alone DSL. Hence, I can conclude that BD is going to stay with us for a while and DD won't be replacing it or another format any time soon. That and I'd rather have a physical copy of my movies t('-'t)

    *kicks exo in the groin*

Edit: godamn, there goes my fancy sig ;(

    Its the Exoduso Flip-Flopper syndrome
On one hand he says PS3 lacks in many things, especially in the gaming library, the 360 is vastly superior and then turns around and praises the PS3 of having great games

    /Mindclusterfuck

    Uncharted preview shown
Exo's response "Meh", can be done on the 360
Uncharted released (Very well received by gamers/journalists/etc.)
Exo's response "Hype, nothing more, nothing less"
Exo plays the game (Enjoys the experience)
    Exo praises Uncharted
Later restates a 360 fanboy mantra "LOLz PS3 has no games, to hard to develop for"

Exo's mindset is of the popular mindse, he falls into posting pressure really hard
He's the guy who will go with crowd, even if they all are jumping off a high rise building, cause its the cool thing to do, its now, at the moment

I don't now if it's been mentioned but Universal announced last week that it will be Blu-Ray exclusive.

well according to the concept of diffusion of innovation, you would belong to the category of "Laggards" which makes up for about 15% of the consumer market, while the "average consumer" would be the two categories of "early majority" and "late majority" which add to about 68%

don't be too sure til you've done actual research

Yeah, I know about that bell curve thing, and I think it fits, for the most part. My 'average consumer' remark wasnt reflecting myself, im definitely a laggard when it comes to bluray. I think early adopters are crazy; im just wise about my money. But thinking about it, I think that bell curve (wont really be a bell afterwards) will fatten up a bit at the late/laggard side for bluray, considering NPD reports show that only 35% of Americans (couldnt find world figures) own an HDTV and only 11% of them own/plan on owning a HD player by mid 08. Not couting PS3 in this.
