I admit there's an underwhelming feeling to the expansion so far, but it's BRAND fkn new, so give it some time for obvious reasons. I'm just getting the new content out of the way holding an optimistic attitude for the awesome shit to come (we didn't know about X, Y, and Z in ToAU/CoP when those expansions first came out, either).
one of the biggest problems I see with WotG is that there's no central hub like there was in ToAU. what you get instead are 6 zones, which are filled mainly by flavor NPCs, have no AHs, only half have moghouses, and are not interconnected at all. plus, it's just annoying that nearly every zone that exists in the present has most of its zonelines and sometimes entire parts of the zone itself blocked off, like some kind of claustrophobic dynamis-vana'diel.
I expect Beastmen Strongholds to be the new merit camps, assuming they aren't used for some Battle System. Beastmen are quite nice to exp off of and I wouldn't be surprised if these strongholds are teeming with ToAU-leveled Yags, Orcs, Quads, and Demons.
Going back a little to what was said earlier. It would have been pure awesome if what they did was have Tavnazia in the game, but not the main hub (or maybe if they put it in half way through WotG). Leave Jeuno as the main city. And then as the last update for WotG have a massive beastmen horde heading towards Tavnazia. Not all at once in different sets like what Besieged is. Have it build up into a final lvl assault, and of course we lose. But have it lead into the next expansion (or next big update as there might not be any more expansions for FFXI by then) saying that the future will be affected by how well Tavnazia is/was defended. And then open up the main Tavnazian city in the present.
I can almost garuntee Jeuno will be the next area we unlock on the patch and it will come with AH's.
To do things that are far more interesting than entering myself in Stare-Out '07What do people merit, upgrade, and optimize gear for if not fighting HNMs (and maybe other stuff that you have to pay attention for like relic fragment fights. Not counting parse racing)?
I asked this in another thread, but is there even a past jeuno in the dats? I know stuff like beaucedine glacier [s] and xarcabard [s] are already in there, just not activated yet, but I haven't seen any jeuno...
I used to think they would only implement new zones on the expansion disk (I could be totally wrong on this), but this time they added them during the update before the expansion, which leads me to believe that they are willing to do this again.Originally Posted by fantasticdan
Consider this: we don't even have the maps for that new zone from the Wings trailer. I think that SE is increasingly aware of the fact that people check the dats, and they like to save their surprises for when they want to release them.
What do you mean? The physical areas were added in the update? I don't think so, as no one ever looked at them in the entire period before WotG's release.Originally Posted by ringthree
The maps at very least and I believe the zones too. Remember, at least for now and from what people have found so far they have not found that new zone from the trailer.Originally Posted by BRP
Which? The one that looked like Tahrongi from the past? The funky space one with atomos in they sky? The one that looked like Xarcabard in the past?Originally Posted by ringthree
Gotta admit that I find it funny the lot of you are QQing over the lack of things to do in a 10% complete expansion.Like how most of you forgot how ToAU began... with nothing. By the time WoTG actually becomes "awesome", it'll be late-April/Early May 2008, I promise you.
The difference between how ToAU and WoTG play should be obvious; ToAU was never a major, storyline-driven expansion, right to the very last mission-- it was assault based, giving you that "mercenary" feeling (remember that we got more assaults than acutal storyline plots at the get go). WoTG is simply bringing it back to a storyline driven expansion, surrounded by the ongoing war we read in storybooks of the present. So one shouldnt expect content at the get go on the same level as ToAU.
I must say I'm one of the QQing peeps that have to wait til later today to get the expansion, but it's just damn funny that someone you expect epicness this early.
If people thought the release of WoTG was going to be the 2nd coming of FFXI then you should quit and save yourself waiting around for a years worth of patches. I mean did people honestly think they were going to make ToAU area's obsolete when they just finished it a few months ago?
Was gonna add all that on, but my shower was running.Originally Posted by Lordender
And yeah, ToAU is still about 90% complete itself, it still needs a few tweaks here and there. Even then, I'm sure people have things to do there, all the way up until 2009, before it becomes obsolete, indeed. Hell, there are those that still haven't found thier way outta Zilart and CoP content yet, heh.
How can you be disappointed when SE said this exp pack. will be end game and high lvl onry? There are enough things for low lvls if you think of how many low lvls there are compared to high lvls. Now go finish CoP, ZM, ToAU and AN.
If that was directed at me, I'm not sure if I should laugh at you in the face or shake my head in pity. If it wasn't directed at me, then no harm, no foul. 8) Anyways, I'ma ease up outta this topic, back into the background.Originally Posted by wood

Seriously? I mean...that figures, since every time a change is made it seems more and more obvious that SE just hates BST and wants them to all give up. It's nice to see that a lame trend that started with ToAU (wtfscorpions) continues.Originally Posted by akoru
I'm usually pretty excited about just running around and checking out new stuff, but things like this, combined with the registration server issues, and the fact that I was away for Thanksgiving so I'd have to actually leave the house at 10am on black Friday to pick up my disc...mmm, maybe I should wait.
