What's funny is, they DID. A few days before they were telling people to register as soon as they had the code, rather than waiting til it goes live. They even told people to set POL to remember your password for logging into the membership section, to take one step out of the process. Putting a direct link on the FFXI screen seems like another way to take some steps out of the process.
Still, I don't get why it's such a problem. They obviously have some weird sort of setup on their servers. How is it that they can handle 2000-3000 people playing a game on 20+ servers without much problem.. but as soon as a few hundred people want to type a 20 digit code in to change a flag on their account, the servers can't handle it?
