Is It Possible to Switch Alliances?

I allianced with bastok, did the Sprinter's shoes quest & the other ones for the mission. However am I able to sever ties with bastok, sign up for say San d'Oria and get another pair of shoes then switch back? Anyone tried this? I want to do the angel/deathstone quests too, but i dont know if i can switch back to Bastok. =/
