    Re: WotG Storyline Discussion (Spoilers)

The only way I could see making Ancient coins available without causing a shitstorm is some sort of one time quest, gotta be a certain level/rank/whatnot so you can't just spam it on mules, and even then it would only bring in a few coins here and there.

They did mention that Gil was being pushed as a universal currency near the time period we're in.

They are at war. People can't go around frittering away money that could be going to help the effort against the beastmen. Except for people from Jeuno, they have tons of cash.

I stand corrected then There was none listed in the old "area" thread

On topic, the final fight will be against what cause the time disturbance I bet. So, Atomos probably.
Wouldn't the prophecy of the "Harbringer" be the same in every timeline? If in fact we are the "Harbringer" the only thing we will be able to effect in the timeline is the outcome of the war. Whatever we fight at the end should really have nothing to do with teh time disturbance since it the disturbance is supposed to happen.

When that supercharged Ultima casting taru said talked about the Harbringer and the Champions of Dawn (being to separate entities) he mention that the Champs would desend. Has that been discussed yet? Would desending be an implication of heavenly bodies? It says to me that whoever they are, the are not mere mortals (any of the 5 races).

They give gil because they claim it is untraceable but the fact that they are giving 10k gil similar to what we received as payment for the regular missions payout in present times makes you believe that money wasn't hard to come by during wartime.

    Re: WotG Storyline Discussion (Spoilers)

There's a Mithran NPC in Fort Karugo-Narugo who says something like this: "What's with the mouth...you'd know what I'd mean if you were on the frontlines. Everything's been strange lately. Even the Beastmen..." Notice she says mouth and not maw. I don't have a specific quote, maybe someone could dig it up or quote it better who's seen it.

Here's my prediction of what the overall storyline is going to be:

    - Some entity unrelated to the Shadow Lord is making the Beastmen stronger. Basing this off of various NPC reactions to their strength. They really seem to have taken the nations by surprise.
    - The Harbinger was the arrival of the comet, and the entity. The two may be related.
    - The Harbinger is supposed to be the herald of the "fall of the Champions of the Dawn."
    - The Champions of the Dawn is just another name for the Allies
    - Without our interference in history, the Nations would've lost the war because of the interference of this mysterious force.
    - Demons don't seem that much stronger than they are in modern times, I really don't think the entity is related to Odin or even the Shadow Lord.
    - Toyed with the idea of the entity being from the future as well but it doesn't make much sense, as how the "legend" which discusses the Harbinger must've predated any plot in the future to go back in time. However this doesn't necessarily disprove anything.
    - Atomos seems to be a really weird choice for the entity since the cavernous maws which allowed us to go back in time to help everyone bear his image.
    - Our job will be to stop whatever force is interfering in the Beastmen's favor during the war, then the "Champions of the Dawn" will win the war for themself.

Cait Sith is described as a "regal feline." He seems to possess the ability to alter time. There's a couple possibilities about Cait Sith.

    - Cait Sith simply means "otherworldly cat." Maybe Cait Sith and the entity are from some sort of other existence.
    - Cait Sith may be another avatar. A big theme of FFXI is balance, there's always some avatar to balance out another. If Cait Sith is the Avatar of time, Atomos is the avatar of...?

"Avatar of space" makes no sense to me honestly. How...could you be an avatar of space?

That sounds like a show on the Home and Garden channel.

The entity that's making the Beastmen "stronger" (as in more organized, better tactics, etc...) is most likely the Shadow Lord. NPCs in that point of time in the past still don't know about the existence of the Shadow Lord.

Anyway, the money that you get for the Bastok quests is from Senator Werner's war fund, and given in untraceable gil. That wasn't from a regular person, but from the Bastokian government.

Since there are no auction houses in the past, nor many shops (besides the goblins), one would imagine that resources were hard to come by making money more valuable and that a system of rationing and perhaps War Bonds were in place.

But when all is said and done, it is all just a bunch of excuses to explain why Square doesn't want Relic Weapons to be more readily accessible.

I think it would be nice if we could see some currency being dropped in the past (it does make sense...), and perhaps some interesting rewards that can be bought with them. I mean, the goblins in the future do sell some stuff, even if they are at ludicrous currency amounts.

As long as you can't farm 100's, and the drop rate is low (haha, okay, the drop rate will never be good... so this is just assumed), it probably won't matter.

Plus, with the new relic weapon about to be released (and who knows, maybe these'll be better! They are all job specific at least!), it might be nice to make the older one slightly easier to get.

I believe that in addition to being "the Conqueror of the Skies" Bahamut is the avatar of time and space.

In all likelihood, Cait Sith, Atmos, and any other Avatars that they introduce in this expansion will be something along the lines of Temporal Avatars in contrast to Celestial and Terrestrial Avatars. Either being able to move freely though time, or being outside of time entirely.

Well, I was more referring to the guy you quoted that said only Jeuno NPCs offer cash rewards.

is there any story info/speculation on why Fomors pop in Campaign, and fight together with Orcs?

I've seen shades attack at South Gustaberg before once, on my first campaign battle.

    Re: WotG Storyline Discussion (Spoilers)

The Fomors are part of the Dark Kindred. Maybe they just sold their souls to the Shadow Lord, joined the SL out of fear, want revenge on someone on the Allied Forces, or the beastmen performed some necromancy or something

Also, regarding what Cait Sith and Atomos represent, maybe one is an avatar of time travel and the other is an avatar of parallel worlds? Sorta referrencing Chrono Trigger and Cross, I guess.

I also had this crazy idea that Atomos is leeching off of Vana'diel to create (or possibly repair) its own world, which Cait Sith might be the leader of (hence the crown). I also got this complex idea that it would involve past, present and future: Atomos has the greatest heroes (adventurers of the present) affect an important event (the Crystal War of the past) in order to impact the future for its liking. (Examples: Side A losing Battle X will prevent a powerful nation in the future, which has the potential of stopping Atomos, from forming. Or if a certain guy isn't defeated, he'll somehow turn some place into a barren wasteland, as opposed to a paradise that Atomos would like to harvest.)

The idea even got more crazy with the possibility that maybe a long time ago, some race reduced its planet into a wasteland, came to Vana'diel asking the Zilart for a new place to live in but were denied, and now they want revenge.

I doubt it would ever get that complicated, though.

"Time Magic" and "Space Magic" have historically been linked together in the FF series, so it would make perfect sense (especially considering Atomos is usually presented as having dominion over gravity magic, which falls into the Space category).

But I think someone already mentioned it was Bahamut (then again, who's to say we can't have more than one avatar with power over something? technically speaking the only thing Bahamut is the avatar "of" is the Al'Taieu shard). Perhaps they are "Extraterrestrial Avatars"?
