What do you guys think? It's been a while since I've upgraded my video card (Over 4 years ago) and I'm looking for a new one that could support Dual Monitors. What are some of the best options? Price is not a problem here.

Nvidia 8800 GT in my opinion...
Most will say 8800 GTX but the GT's are a lot more cost effective... I'm running dual GTs... If you haven't researched SLI I would recommend that also...
you need to change motherboard for this right? if u have a old one i mean.I want to buy one but my motherboard mega old(No PCI express only AGP).Originally Posted by Dexster
ffxi is known to have problems with 8X00 nvidia cards, and they dont come in AGP
for agp i would go
nvidia
7800gs or 7600gt
ati
x850Pro or x1950Pro
but to get the best you will have to upgrade your MB to PCI-E
TBH, its worth it to upgrade your mobo. With a PCI/AGP mobo you're limited on upgrades, and mostly anything you upgrade on that mobo you will have to replace again when you change motherboards to a PCI-E. I said screw it, sat with a crappy computer for a while, so I could afford to buy a new mobo and all new parts altogether, and its worthwhile.
Very true, in my opinion. The GT runs cooler, and even though it has some lesser specs than the GTX, it outperforms it at certain points and in certain resolutions... The GTX may be 'superior' in terms of highest resolution out there and certain graphic memory requirements, but anytime a card that's $200-300 CHEAPER outperforms another card, even at ONE resolution, its 'better' in my opinion. To put it in perspective, imagine paying 500-600 for a superclocked GTX just to have it run worse than a regular 8800GT that may have cost you hundreds less. Most will say 8800 GTX but the GT's are a lot more cost effective... SLI GT's are the way to go, but keep in mind its not 100% 'worth it'... you don't get dual benefit, not even close, so yeah. Weigh your options. One 8800GT is definitely pro though.
Technically, if price is no object...then 8800gtx ultra or two of them in sli. But yeah, GT > GTX for the more price conscience.
And, like stated, for those conscience of having a card that is sometimes outperformed by cards half its price![]()
1. If you want to run dual monitors, you can't if you're in SLI unless you use the 3 vid card trick or use Dualhead2Go, but both of those solutions will only allow SLI to be running/working on 1 monitor(which isn't a big deal) while the other is non-SLI.
2. Depends how much $$$ you're looking to spend. FFXI is still a CPU intensive game last I checked. I can run out of SLI on one of my 512MB evga GeForce 7950GT KOs and never drop below 27FPS even in high traffic areas such as dynamis, whitegate, etc.
It basically goes like this:
8800 GTX > HD 3870 > HD 3850 > 8800 GT > other stuff.
$500 > $210 > $180 > $300
You decide.
8800GT out performs GTX in many cases. I would go with either, but buy aftermarket cooling for both.

8800GTSv2 512 - Shipping December 11th
Will most likely destroy the GTX
If you're looking at a dual card set-up, crossfire scales a lot better than SLI so get a pair of HD 3870s and you'll out perform SLI'd 8800GTs a good portion of the time.
Unless you crossfire a 3870 will hardly ever outperform a 8800gt. Just look at some crysis benchmarks over at Tom's: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/11/15/ ... age16.htmlOriginally Posted by Snowknight26
8800gt is by far the best card on the market right now. Also in my opinion SLI and crossfire is a waste of money. By the time 1 8800gt doesn't get the job done (2-3 years at least), there's going to be another card out there for $200-300 that'll rip the pants off of any 8800gt SLI or 3870 crossfire setup.
My mistake, forgot the S on GT.
I have two GTX's and all SLI does is fuck up my system and cause crashes. I've had SLI disabled for a while now...
I'll give you $50 for the second GTX
8600 GTS - Under $200.
BEST U KAN GET 4 UNDAR 200 YO
You know if you totally ignore that whole HD 3850 thing that blows the 8600GT out of the water.Originally Posted by Kiro
