Well, it's barely been 24 hours, and it's already made $60 million. It basically has already crushed the numbers set by Iron Man, Spider-Man 3 and Star Wars III.

I loved this movie, so damn much. I was prepared to criticize Heath Ledger, because I don't like it when a person's talent gets overrated due to their tragic death, but I submit to the fact that he was awesome. He creeped me the fuck out. Mission accomplished.

Maybe they'll just stop with this film.

like they wont milk this franchise for all it's worth....

I don't like Depp but I was actually thinking that he would be one of the few people that would be able to play the Joker well, aside from Ledger - not that I would ever support them recasting the Joker, in fact I would be flat out pissed if they did - but he could do it, I think.

Casting him as The Riddler would be an excellent idea, though. But milking this franchise with already-done villains is a bad idea, The Dark Knight should be the pinnacle, unless they do Bane. Bane would work, but the Riddler or Mr. Freeze, or Poison Ivy, or Clayface or the Penguin or any of those would just suck, I think.

The Riddler *is* the new Batman villian, I've read that from multiple sources. I'm SO happy that the movie is out now because I've been holding back from talking about since I saw it on Monday!

    Spoiler: show
HOW FUCKING GOOD WAS THE MOTORCYCLE PART OMGGG? XXXX It was sooooo coooooooooolllllllllll I love love loved that part so much. I was that nerd like HOLY SHIT, and was wondering how many other people did that too haha.

Ledger was awesome, everyone knows this. But, alot of people are leaving out all of the OTHER actors that also did just a fucking REALLY GOOD job. Freeman, Oldman, Eckhart, they all were really fucking good. I even like Maggie Gyllenhal, and I don't like her in ANYTHING. The movie was SO good, just absolutely amazing.

Like someone else said, I can't WAIT for Sunday night to see how much this made over the weekend. It will be an astronomical number, and I am so excited. It (unlike other movies that have set records) will be worthy of the number at the very least.

Just gotta follow ones that would be believable in the "real" universe they are trying to pin this batman.

    Mr. Freeze = hell no.
Poison Ivy = Meh, could work out some really intense love story about a woman that uses seduction and neurotoxins to manipulate people(and infiltrate batman) might work.
    Clayface = not a chance.
Bane = If done right, a brilliant and physical superior adversary to the batman.
Riddler = Possible, I think they would do well to keep the the brilliant matermind aspect of their supervillans. Have kinda like a Saw character that uses puzzles to kill people and trap batman.

Alot of potential, but ya im really bummed the joker will never be back. He reminded me of ..... me..

Hush, The Penguin, Catwoman, Mad Hatter, Riddler, Bane, hell even Jason Todd.

Plenty of "normal" humans that could be used for the next villian.

With some adjustments to the overall character idea, even characters like Killer Croc, Ivy, or Solomon Grundy could work.

Saw this in IMAX tonight, easily the best super hero movie ever made, and probably the best movie I've seen yet. I'm pretty bummed though, as well as all who see this I'm sure, that Heath's Joker will never be in another movie.

I've also read that the Riddler will be in the next film, and the Dark Knight's viral marketing has already given us a clue that we'll see him.

    Nolan series

Director Christopher Nolan took the helm as director of the new Batman franchise with the 2005 film Batman Begins. In The Gotham Times, a viral marketing website promoting the upcoming 2008 film The Dark Knight, Edward Nashton, an alias of The Riddler, is credited for an editorial in Volume 2 about a Batman statue being added to the Wax Museum. The editorial parallels a 1966 episode of the Batman TV series, in which the Riddler used a Batman statue to smuggle in a 'Universal Wax Solvent' from France. Although Anthony Michael Hall was rumored to be playing the Riddler, Hall is playing a reporter named Mike Engel. While doing press for The Dark Knight, Gary Oldman alluded that the Riddler could be the villain in the proposed third film.[5] David Tennant has expressed an interest in the role.

Riddler hasn't been confirmed. The only people talking about it were Oldman and MAYBE Eckhart in some interviews.

Oldman just likes the Riddler, he's only speculating. Same with Eckhart.

Goyer has gone on record saying no Penguin or Catwoman. He added, that there were plenty of villains that weren't already shown, that could be written into a sequel. All in all, despite having a lot of villains to pick from I figure 90% of them won't work with Nolan's universe.

If we're talking MAIN villain, you have to fit that villain thematically within Nolan's vision of the mythology.

It's accepted, that Nolan's take on Batman is set in a plausible universe. (plausible meaning, superficial reasonable)

    Spoiler: show
after this flick, I don't see how there can be a sequel. I know nolan and bale are signed on for a third but they won't be forced to make one if there's no story. if two-face really is dead, than that's a shame. i figure he had to die because of the tremendous amount of suffering and demoralization he undergoes.

it really seemed like the "logical" end for him. like he was essentially a ticking time bomb. also, they portrayed him as a tragic hero more than pure villain, so a tragic death makes more sense.

Personally, I'd like to see a Nolan brothers + Goyer Knightfall arc. Make it work somehow. But in terms of direct sequel, I don't see how it would work. Not just as a story, purely superficial but also on a thematic level. seems like batsy has progressed in his characterization to the point of no-return. he's lost his last link to a normal life so he's JUST batman now. the mask is permanent

Would be nice if they concluded with The Long Halloween (as this film obviously pulled many references from). Saw it at Imax with Monolith Studios (the FEAR guys), one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

I actually thought that Bale's Batman voice was similar to Two-Face's voice from the old cartoon and they shoulda have used the voice for that lol.

Nothing after the credits, scarecrow was the mini-boss in the first movie, so it was just a cameo. This was such a goddam motherfucking awesomefest of awesome all over my brain. I just loved every minute of it. I would go see it again but I have no ride and no money. LAWL I got owned . Such a great movie, though. I've always loved the Joker, and I found myself laughing at the sickest things in this movie. Though, everyone else was, too.

I know it's already been said a few times in this thread, but I think "TA-DA!" is going to make quote history.

I want to type all his quotes in here but it's just too awesome and it would be stupid to repeat them all. OH GOD SO AWESOME

I'd say fan service, but Scarecrow doesn't have any fans

Saw it tonight, was completely blown away. There were multiple instances where my jaw was just left hanging at how amazingly-well done it was.

    Spoiler: show
The first "home movie" gave me chills, it just showed me how excellent Ledger was. My favorite scene is probably the interrogation, though, followed by the hospital scene between Dent and the Joker, and then outside when Joker was stomping his feet when the hospital didn't explode entirely. Goddamn I laughed.

Did anyone else notice the "I believe in Harvey Dent" sticker on Joker's nurse's outfit? :bagel:

Very beginning, right after the bank robbery, when Batman crashes in on the drug dealers and the false-Batmans (lol) who were trying to bust them up. Scarecrow steps out of the van with a bag thing on his face and pretty much does nothing. When Batman arrives he fires a rocket or something at Scarecrow's van but it doesn't kill him, because you see the van drive off screen shortly after. That was the last time he's seen in the entire movie.
