Performance of the year, if not the decade. This felt so much more like a comic book plot than the bright flashy action movies I remember from Joel Shumacher. I really think the writing and the performance was the Joker to a tee.

Fucking Heath Ledger. Ugh.

When I came out of the theatre I was overwhelmed by his character. Sometimes you finish watching a movie and you're excited, the adrenaline is pumping or whatever. But after this it's like this melancholy, overwhelmed feeling. And then you realize that there can never be another Ledger Joker, and you're sad - even if they didn't play on doing another movie with the Joker, there could always be that possibility of it. Now there is none.

That's really depressing. His version of the Joker was just chilling. Just perfect.

I was surprised by Ledger's take on the Joker. It seemed like he actually channeled the Joker himself- it was absolutely eerie and macabre. Yet, everyone laughed in the theater when he did the pencil trick. Perfect interpretation, only a once in a lifetime occurrence.

Man deserves a posthumous Oscar, and Lifetime achievement Oscar.

From what I gathered from his death, his sleep routine was severely off from the TDK filming process. He lived in solitude for a month before the shooting began so he could slowly slip into his Joker persona and perfect his little characterisms. I read an interview that after shooting had wrapped, he was averaging between 1-3 hours of sleep (due to filming schedule and him having a play a mentally fucked up criminal) WITH sleeping pills. The night he died he just took too many and that's that.

So yeah, he definitely didn't kill himself on purpose... he was filming another movie and as soon as TDK was released he would receive all this praise and critical acclaim. Just a very tragic and unfortunate scenario.
