The movie was fucking awesome, though I'm not quite sure I approve of the way it ended. Sure Batman isn't a conventional hero type, but I don't think having him go rogue like that was the best route the movie could take.

Still, bravo.

From what I gathered from his death, his sleep routine was severely off from the TDK filming process. He lived in solitude for a month before the shooting began so he could slowly slip into his Joker persona and perfect his little characterisms. I read an interview that after shooting had wrapped, he was averaging between 1-3 hours of sleep (due to filming schedule and him having a play a mentally fucked up criminal) WITH sleeping pills. The night he died he just took too many and that's that.

So yeah, he definitely didn't kill himself on purpose... he was filming another movie and as soon as TDK was released he would receive all this praise and critical acclaim. Just a very tragic and unfortunate scenario.

I think a large part of the Joker part's influence on Heath is overdramatized by the media. The first interview Michelle Williams gave after his death, she talked about how the insomnia was nothing new, he'd been struggling with bouts of sleeplessness for as long as she'd known him, and had always had problems, sort of. The Joker undoubtedly affected him, but attributing his problems and his accidental overdose on it alone, I don't really buy.

I hope that it if they opt not to make a third one they do more with Gotham Knight type style putting it on late night Adult Swim, or anywhere with the original Batman:TAS voices...

i loved how they delved more into every aspect of Batman with the detective work, the scenes in Arkham were just rumored, for someone like Daniel Day Lewis to play him or show Joker from behind going through Arkham, anybody else catch the Mad Hatter refrence? (Jervis Tetch), it would be great for a third movie seeing in Arkham more of the villians being developed in this way, whether it be comics or gotham knight.

The ending was perfect.

It's almost like Nolan wants to do a "Dark Knight Returns" adaptation. That's where it seems to be going.

I think Eckhart should get as much praise as Heath. He really turned Two-Face into a tragic hero, not a villain.

The film managed to make a lot of original choices in the characterization and plot. I don't think any other comic book (mainstream like Spidey/X-Men/etc. has the depth of Batman mythology so it's sort of inherent). It's IMO, mostly due to the fact that you can create a PLAUSIBLE universe for Batman whereas it doesn't really apply for other heroes.
