Thanks for posting that press release quote archibald, it was really interesting. Nolan certainly took an interesting idea behind directing Eckhart that really got to the core of Two-Face as a complete split-personality character.
Am I whooshing? I didn't post that press release, and in fact I think it's basically a load of shit since we don't see much split-personality out of two-face at all in the film. It sounds like a cool idea (the press release) just didn't come across on screen IMO.

I think you'd be surprised how much it added to his performance. I think the concept of half of his face having completely DIFFERENT expressions and tonality to what he's saying, is an amazing idea...and I think added so much to it....I think the only thing that kept us from caring about Two-Face is how fast he was introduced and then suddenly killed.

(Yeah fuck your spoiler tags...you shouldnt be this far if you havent seen the movie.)

It's all in Portuguese, but to translate the important stuff, Johnny Depp could play The Riddler, Angelina Jolie could play Catwoman, and Philip Seymour Hoffman will be playing The Penguin in the next Batman movie.

The way it's worded, it seems likely that it's just speculation, but some of the words make it sound like it's been confirmed to someone, somewhere, that we won't hear about until much later, if at all.

Olsen Refuses To Speak To Police Over Ledger's Death

Olsen Refuses To Speak To Police Over Ledger's Death

    4 August 2008 5:06 AM, PDT

Mary-Kate Olsen has reportedly refused to be interviewed over the accidental drug death of her close friend Heath Ledger - unless she receives immunity from prosecution.

Federal agents are keen to speak to Olsen - who was romantically linked to the tragic actor at the time of his death in January - because she was the first person called after her masseuse discovered Ledger's body in his New York apartment.

According to the New York Post, Olsen "has refused to speak" and her lawyer, Michael Miller, reportedly claims she won't be interviewed "unless she gets immunity, exercising her constitutional rights".

Miller tells the publication, "We are not going to comment on whether there is a criminal investigation."

I know I'm late, but I figured I'd throw in with the praise. The movie's great and every bit deserving of the hype. Writing was brilliant, although things moved so fast it was hard to follow at times. That's about my only qualms with the movie, that and the way Bale makes Batman's voice ridiculously gruff. But those are minor issues that are easy to ignore.

What? There wasn't an ounce of split personality in this movie. He went from man of justice to enraged, distraught man who's lost the love of his life. Never once was his mood any different after he was released by Joker; from that point forward he was only out for revenge. The only fact about him they got right was that he lived and died by that coin, and the general design of his face.

In the comics, his split personality is shockingly contrasted, and made clear by the sides of his face. He goes from being a suave and collected businessman/mobster to psychopathic cold-blooded killer, in the blink of an eye, depending on which side of him is shown to be 'dominant' there. If they do bring Two-Face back (very likely imo, Harvey Dent may be dead to Gotham but that doesn't mean the body quit breathing), I hope they flesh that aspect of the character out a little better.

The split personality thing is explored, but it's more in the vein of passive-aggressive behavior than outright Cybill-like multiple personalities.

The scene where Gordon/Harvey and Batsy meet on the roof is an example.

You can tell Harvey QQs a lot. He bitches to Gordon, and then Gordon rebukes him. He wants to keep talking but just stops himself and returns to the discussion at hand (Lau).

Then there's the scene where he kidnaps the paranoid schizo. He talks soft, then screams. He does this alot in the film and it's a very cliche'd technique but effective and I liked it overall.

The part where he asks Gordon to tell him what his nickname was (he already knew obviously) in MCU, is another example. He says, "say it" once softly. Then screams it another time when Gordon hesitates.

He yelled it in a very abusive way. Definitely not the same way like when Joker screams "LOOK AT ME" @the fake Batman.

That's a very good demonstration of how different two ways of crazy are.

Joker goes from soft to loud in a very demonic way. His scream sounds so missplaced for his body. Like it belonged to a dragon or a serpent. He really is like a biblical villain - a monster. Reminded me of the Clown from Spawn (which is a rip off of the Joker anyways).

With Harvey, his soft to loud is more abusive than anything. It's a release of frustration rather than pure ID. Harvey doesn't live through his scarred persona. He really is at odds with that aspect. He can do many immoral things via the scarred side but that doesnt represent his desire.

His desire is fairness and justice, in the way he percieves it. How that justice is carried out (violence) is incidental.

The duality is represented through the coin. He doesn't have to be superficial w/ the duality - like in the comics, which BTW are better equipped to show that aspect of the character.

These actors have to act within the context of the film and clearly Nolan wanted Harvey to be a tragic hero with LOTS of anger issues and unresolved conflicts (the MCU nickname he knows about but plays off like he doesnt as an example).

Ultimately, Eckhart's Twoface is like the Twoface of The Animated Series. The duality is confined to the coin. There is no Harvey Dent. It's just Twoface - which is to say a cruel gangster/ enforcer hybrid (I'm talking about the cartoon still btw).

Eckhart is similar to that, but much more focused on the tragic hero aspect. Even in his last moments, you can tell he's still there as Dent, but just fixated on his revenge/concept of justice as balance (equality, fairness, EYE FOR AN EYE sort of thing).

Think Anakin Skywalker without the lulz of genocide and backflips.

Star Wars still destroys every movie in history by miles when you adjust for inflation

    Close, Krandor, but not quite.

Star Wars, by inflation adjusted ticket price or public opinion polls, ranks as the second most popular movie of all time.

There's one movie that tops Star Wars on both lists...

EDIT, wow beaten closely with exactly the same link, lol
