I believe he is talking about the trailer that showed the supposed first five minutes of the movie.
On the subject of Mark Hamill possibly being a better choice than Heath Ledger, the voice he used was the same voice he used when he played the Trickster in the Flash tv series from the 70's. So yeah, he COULD play a batshit-crazy-gleeful character. He did. Hell, he kinda did the whole in-joke reference to it when he played Cock-knocker in the last Silent Bob and Jay movie. Frankly, Mark Hamill would have made a better choice than a pretty boy. <shrug> I guess youth > skill in stupidwood

Dunno how new these are, but they're new to me.
Had to make an account just so I could say that this is, by far, one of the most retarded paragraphs I have ever read on this forum. Especially the last two sentences. Hamill > Ledger as an actor? Are you kidding? And have you even seen the trailer? There is nothing "pretty" about the Joker.Originally Posted by Sigi
Hammil using the same exact voice from a previous cartoon comic book show should count against him in terms of creativity and what he'd bring to the role as an actor. As a voice actor its even worse. The words were not written by him, he just applied the same voice to a great script written by great writers.
Ledger on the other hand, had to change his voice/mannerisms/behavior in general to play the Joker on screen.
It's fucking stupid to say Hammil would do a better job. His last great ACTING role was when? The joker voice from the cartoon is awesome but it's a little too light-hearted.
Heath had the right balance of playfulness and crazy. It's great for a live-action movie. You put Hammil up there and it's out of sync w/ the atmosphere/tone of the rest of the film.
While Henry14Gunners has a point with defending Ledger, I can honestly say you must know shit about Batman. I don't think there is anyone out there who doesn't read the Joker's voice as Hammil even in all of his "dark" and "mature" qualities. It's hardly "light-hearted". Go watch the Batman Beyond movie or something. It's fucking stupid to say Hammil would do a better job. His last great ACTING role was when? The joker voice from the cartoon is awesome but it's a little too light-hearted.
the DIALOGUE is dark and mature.
hammil uses the same voice he did during the 70s cartoon series he did. and my point is that it's out of place w/ the rest of nolan's bat-universe.
i am not saying it's candy and gumdrops lighthearted. im saying its not dark enough. he comes off as kitschy in the cartoon. the voice is great sure, but after hearing ledger, it cant compete. why? because this isn't a cartoon. there's more restraint in the number of candid scenes we'll see of the villain. it's just how nolan did it. the joker was very shallow in the cartoon. villains like 2face were way more developed.
the way joker is being portrayed in the movie, is much more thorough and interesting/symbolic(which the cartoon only hints at, and only gets closer to it in Phantasm and the Beyond movie. OVERRATED anyways (now).
Comparing Hamill's performance to Ledger without a) respecting the context in which both were given (1992 cartoon vs 2008 film) and b) before the movie is even done is premature. Why is it happening?
Oh wait this is bgboards.
Can we at least assume Ledger isn't yet a crappier Joker than Hamill? I thought Hamill's Joker was brilliant but c'mon, that cartoon's now 15 years old. Just reading the comics from then till now would have given you dozens of different ways of looking at the role. Apples, oranges, apples, oranges.
old argument restarted, nice.
I have complete faith in Ledger. He's a legit actor and based on the level of creativity and depth of his past portrayals i know his Joker will be great.
Oh, and this:

Gary Oldman is full of win. So his word is law. Hammil is overrated. He has a cool voice but he didn't do anything other than R E A D. Film-acting is much more difficult for OBVIOUS reasons.

New trailer. Has some nice lines in it.
correction, badass new trailer.
/sigh, looks like they recast joker... I had thought they would keep ledger in. Or are my eyes just bad.
Your eyes are bad. That's Ledger.Originally Posted by Edgie
