Both San d'Oria and Windurst are responsible in that they did not mettle in things that didn't effect them until much later, that's a big theme in the game. In the same way USA letting World War II go on for so long, in the end, it would have consumed them too.

If it makes Bastokians happy, Bastok goes have the most superior and strongest military force at the moment(outside Jeuno of course). However, they rely greatly on exports.

They have a very small population of players, that's why they lose at these sort of things.

How is it Sandoria and Windurst's fault that Bastok sent a jealous captain along with a galka and the galka-loving broad in the same fucking squad?

Let's not even mention that part where Volker gank killshot off Zeid, Bastok is a country of fucking retard of NPCs, with Zazarg and Cid being the only saving grace.

I mean sure Windurst pissed off a terrestrial avatar and Sandoria fuck around with an object capable of annihilating the entire Vana'Diel...ok they're all fuck ups.

On topic, Bastok has an overall lower playerbase for a start. It's sort of a downward spiral, people leave Bastok, Bastok starts comming last in things, more people then leave because of that etc etc.

Not that it bothers me, its still my favorite of the three nations with the most interesting NPCs, in my opinion.

Each nation has its good points and bad points... it's not hard to make fun of another nation... i can come up with many things to make Sandy and windy look bad... its harder finding out the good things.Try to find the reasoning behind what happens... it might help you in the long run...

as i have said before the real reason Bastok is lagging behind is that:
Regarding conquest: People who started off as Bastokan back in the days have now switched over to do another nations' missions
Regarding Campaign: Bastokans are too busy farming Gnole Claws to protect out land(gg SE >.>)

Storyline wise, yeah, Bastok is pretty much a failure IMO

Whether it was Bastok caused or not, a villain will always appear, if Shadowlord didn't exist, it'd just put the wheel of the RoZ event into motion a lot faster.

It just happen that since it was people from Bastok that was the source of everything, I figure it's only fair that I should conclude that it was all their fault. But hey it's just my view on things.

The reason San d'Oria and Windurst are at fault is they both had the potential to stop the tragedy but were either too interested in the ruins or simply didn't care. You may not accept that as a moral truth, but it's definitely a theme in FFXI. The world of people are stronger now than ever because they work together. Let's not forget their brutal campaigns of conquest in previous ages that pretty much set the stage for the Crystal War in the first place.

I started in Windurst to get the INT ring because I was going to play taru BLM. I switched straight to Bastok that very first day. My girlfriend and her friend were already 10-20 and humes in Bastok so one of their LS escorted me all the way over. Was a great introduction to the game, seemed so big.

Anyway, I never regretted the move, usually carry a signet staff and loved getting rank 10. I suspect it's the usual reasons why we're last, wankers playing Elvaan because of LotR and guys playing Mithra so they can scam gil.
