Windower macros completely obliterate FFXI's horrid macro system. It doesn't matter how many books they add, I'll never limit myself again.
Well, I'm working on setting up a book per job. Haven't gotten too far because of being out of town, and FFXI sorta being a letdown recently so I haven't been eager to spend much time in it. But yeah, I'll be using 5 or so books I guess, as I've not adopted Windower macros yet.
Gradually separating mine off into different books per job (but half the time I still stay on my original book1 set cos I forget to change). I was beginning to really struggle flipping onto the wrong job's macro set from time to time so in that respect having separate books available is a godsend.
Still use windower macros within those separate books though, but have some things set up so I can hit my threnody macro or barspell macro and it takes me to a separate macro bar to select the element I want etc.
1book per job that still use windower macros.
I was one of the BLMs who had every single spell macrod except for t1 nukes, so this helped immensely with giving me breathing room. A big reason aside from inv space that prevented me from levelling new jobs was a lack of macro room.
I think most people who use multiple books would fall into that same category, which makes this macro adjustment very confusing. More than half of what they give you remains empty. No one needs an entire book of macros for MNK. A more sensible adjustment would have been to add more lines to each individual macro.Originally Posted by Xanthe
Having every single spell macroes is so nice in case I ever have little to no mp and need to conserve mp while doing good dmg with tier1 or 2 magic.Originally Posted by Lordwafik

Anyway 3 sets of windower macros, but I use all my G keys.
1 Book per job.
But I only play Warrior at the moment.
Might be doing Dancer to 75 depending on it's finalized gear options/AF.
Don't have the full book for War yet though, War/Sam, War/Thf, War/Drg, and a second set of ctrl/alt for each with the remaining WS > TP gear swaps and various WSes that I might be using since I had a free ctrl/alt.
Also moved a Warrior's Charge, Warcry, and 2hr macro to the WS/TP secondary sets, since all those tend to be used just before a WS, and put Jump/High Jump on there for my War/Drg macro, with a nicely setup swap so if I just hit WS gear once, I'm in Jump gear, then can hit WS2 and be in WS gear, to get rid of having a specific Jump gear macro.
Yup, same here. for SAM I have /war, /nin, then four sets for /thf (TA WS, SA WS, SATA WS, then manual SA and TA macro, if laggy and not lazy)Originally Posted by ringthree
People who are using 1 book for every job aren't quite grasping how these books are supposed to function. As a mage imagine it this way. Book 1 you have a macro for Thunder nuke gear you hit that macro at the end of the macro you use one of the lines to /macro book 02 this swaps you to the exact same page on that book number and bang you're sitting there with all your Thunder spells right at your fingertips without having to touch anything else. Simply put /macro book 01 after the spell macro and you're back up there.
I use 1 book per job for my 10 jobs. Though I do use windower macros because they are more convenient than pressing 2-4 buttons every time. Palettes under each book would be for different sub jobs as stated above.
I understand this perfectly, and know that some people will find that all very useful and interesting. But I am a grumpy asshole who is set in my ways, and has functioned just fine hitting CTRL+UP or DOWN to swap between windows. Before the books were released I still had TONS of macros for SAM and RDM, leaving me with only two or so pallets left. Which those two pallets were constantly changed to which ever other job I was playing at the time (WAR, MNK, NIN, etc). But now I can use the same macros that I have been using for the past four years (save for a few new abilities and spells), and still have plenty of room for all of my other jobs macros, within different books.Originally Posted by orson

1 book for job, windower.
It really allowed me to change what I was doing w/ RDM in particular. I had most of my 'necessary' spells macro'd, w/ a couple of 'subjob' slots which I'd change out based on my sub. I had an entire palette that was just subjob stuff, and I'd copy/paste them into my working macro palette as needed.
Having the books allowed me to dupe the RDM palettes across an entire book, and don't have to do that. Much more organized.
BLM let me spread out, too, I used to have a 'standard nuke gear' set which would gear me based on the target, now I can have multiple palettes in the same book do that w/o as much extensive macro-editing before each event. Not as big a deal as w/ RDM, b/c the spells were MOSTLY the same, but still, a time-saver not previously possible.

People can use the books how they like, "Supposed to function" is a really stupid comment.
Why would you waste a whole book on a thunder spell anyway, when you can use
/macro Set
instead?
I use 1/4 of 1 book, basically 5 slots in 1 book. Covers the 2 jobs I actually play lol. (75 monk and 58 NIN). Pretty disgraceful after almost 4 years but idgaf.
I play all 20 jobs and I still use windower scripts, so yeah, 20 books it is for me
I guess I should have said designed to function to be more specific as to what I was getting at (wasn't trying to be derogatory.) If I had the luxury of windower then I could use /macro set but my computer isn't a gaming computer at all. There's no way it'd handle FFXI, I know hard to believe.
Also If you get what I'm saying as well it's not wasting a whole book for a thunder spell. You'd be switching to a single page in one book to access all your thunder, ice, or enfeebling spells on one page of the book. You'd have 9 other pages in the book to use for other jobs.
As for Ctrl up and down again not being on PC I nvr used the keybroad much so this is far more convenient. In the long run I'd think it'd be faster then hitting Ctrl + button 2-3 times to get to the needed spells.
1 Book per job. As many sets per book as I need. For subjobs, that's usually just 1 set. Anything going over 37 (about half of all jobs right now) is likely to have 2-3 sets pretty quickly.

<.<
9 pallettes used on mnk book right now. Last set is likely to be for 30/40 cap stuff.
"/macro set #" works for the book you're in to switch pages/sets.Originally Posted by orson
One book per job with windower scripts because everyone is doing it.
