honestly i would rather microsoft do this. biggest problem with windows is they have to support so much legacy... well everything. everyone will be on vista in a couple years so just go w/the times

I dont know why everyone freaks out so much about Vista, after setting it correctly it runs perfectly in my laptop.

same here (minus ffxi, but thats really nvidia's issue...) just goto speedyvista.com and tweak it... mine runs at like 20% sys resources and thats while surfing, and av, and other programs running

I have a dell, I found nearly EVERY driver it needed to have XP installed (cept for the modem driver.. but i dont use dial up so i dont really care) however I switched to vista just because I wanna learn vista and it has all the drivers goin on

btw who the hell uses loloutlook? http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/ use this ok? and if you say "but we has exchange" im going to laugh my ass off at you for using a completely insecure email/groupware server

was the same thing when xp came out. Companies stopped making drivers for 98/ME. And in 7-8 years when vista's replacment comes out, the same will happen again.

I'd stop supporting ME too when something better came along.

Microsoft are still running drivers through their HWC tests and signing them, so HP are the ones at fault here for not providing you with XP drivers for their cheap as shit laptops. HP are a huge company who have to provide support for millions of machines out there, do you not think if they can cut down on the number of different configurations (and therefore cut down the amount of things they have to support) they will not do so? I guess actually thinking about the most sensible reason is not as much fun as jumping onto the tired old ZOMG M$ are Evil! Bandwagon is.

As for jumping to Apple because of support for older systems.... F**king megalolz, Apple are terrible for dropping support for older stuff as soon as is possible, just try and get a new iPod working with anything older than 10.4.9 for example.
