Gentlemen, you've been introduced to bro-gaming. Or maybe pop-gaming? I dunno.

I wonder when/if gaming will ever really develop an independent/alternative side, like music and film. And I don't mean that in an entirely snobbish way; there are some good, fun games in those nominations, but this along with the Vivendi/Activision merger and the Gamespot review scandal just really highlights the issue of "mainstream" gaming and what's going on in the industry.

I'm a huge FFT fan so it's cool to see it get some larger recognition but yeah, it's a reissue.

What other way can you feel good about video gaming than when your favourite non-sports channel lavishes praise on the games you like to play; namely the ones with the big explosions and where you can constantly call your adversaries "queer fag-fucking dickbags" on XBL?

Are you kidding? It's hard to find a tactical shooter that doesn't allow co-op with 4 or more players (perhaps you've heard of such things as Counterstrike or Rainbow Six?). As for replay videos, that dates back to at least Quake in 1996, but it's probably even older than that.
