Bingo. Just because there are morbidly obese men who go shirtless covered in paint to football games doesn't mean that we should judge all football fans as freaks. Same with anime.Originally Posted by Correction

I watch annie may.
Hell, I even watch Naruto. Mostly for scenes like this one:

But, I don't act like those people.
Also, most people who don't like anime just haven't seen one that would suite their tastes... if the first few movies you saw as a kid were ones you didn't like, would you swear off all movies?
No, that would be stupid. It's the same with anime.
There's probably a good number of anime shows out there that anyone that has posted in this thread could enjoy.
I personally don't know anyone who saw Yakitate!! Japan and didn't like it, it's not an action/power levels kinda show like some people seem to think all anime is.
But yeah, most people don't like otaku... but that's no reason to hate anime.
It's as silly as hating Star Trek because of Trekkies, or similar types for other shows/activities.
Most people I know that hate anime is because all theyve ever seen is Pokemon, Naruto and Onepiece, and im sure this is true for many others as well. No wonder people hate anime when all they have on TV is this crap.
As sort of a part time gig until I finish up this semester, I work at a coffeeshop on campus that allows me to be sarcastic as fuck all to people. Well, one of our common visitors is a rabidly obsessed japanophile who needs to shove the angelic universal constant of greatness known as anime down everyone's throat every time he comes in. Now a number of staff here watch anime, but we don't profess our undying love for the shit to the point where we would most likely drive away business, or worse. But when he comes up to the bar with his typical line ("Yoko Kanno is a goddess"), it makes me want to take the clue-by-four we have hanging overhead from the ceiling and clock him one upside the head. At least he finally ditched the goddamn Haruhi armband.
I have the rest of the staff referring to him as Weeaboo now. I don't think he's managed to catch on yet.
hahaha, anyone notice that one guy who bought a maid costume for his 15 year old daughter?
Awesome anime you can't really hate on:
Cowbow Bebop
Death Note
Ghost in the Shell
Akira
Miyazaki stuff- Mononoke, Spirited Away, etc
Ninja Scroll (the movie)
Berserk (shuddap manga purists who will whine about the ending; it's still a great show)
Hellsing (see above)
Ergo Proxy
Trigun
Beck
Outlaw Star
Paprika
Grave of the Fireflies
There's more, but that's a good start.
Anime is like everything else in life. Some of it is good, some of (or most of) it is bad. After a while you tend to be able to avoid the shitty stuff that everyone else who hates said thing seem to come across, but that comes once you know what you like and where to look for it.
I thank the gods that I am able to filter all the shit movies/anime/tv that I would've watched many moons before.
My Neighbor Totoro is one of the greatest kid movies ever. Sadly i saw it for the first time in college for a japanese popular culture class, and still i loved it and wished i saw it as a child. It would easilly have been on the home alone level for me as a kid, and thats saying something.

What do you mean? To put it simply: the anime's story didn't end. They just stopped making episodes. Only one arc(or is it two?) was made into anime, while two(or more?) are still only in manga form. It isn't an ending in the same way the end of Fellowship of the Ring isn't the end to the Lord of the Ring series. And there isn't much to whine about, well, as aside from the fact they haven't converted the other arcs yet.(shuddap manga purists who will whine about the ending; it's still a great show)
I'm a manga purist though. I can't thing of any shonen manga that transfered better into anime. Cowboy Bebop might be the exception, but I'm not sure if it qualifies as shonen. Anyone who makes fun of DBZ's power-ups or fillers are only making fun of the anime. It's a pretty poor argument against the whole genre.

I don't hate anime; in fact, I used to watch DB, Mazinger Z, Knights of the Zodiac, etc (reruns) in Mexico and when I came here nobody knew what the fuck I was talking about. "Killer rubuts, Goku, wuts that?"
I hate those people that get to the point of "idolizing" a culture based on anime. Oh, don't get me started with those wapanese who use a jap word once in a while, use a jap nick, listen to shittastic j-pop, or god forbid, eat their shitty candy!
Godamn wapanese, you know who you are!
Regarding the video, lawl @ "them foreigners and their antics!" I don't blame them ahaha >_>
Add: Elfen Lied, Yami no Matsuei, Wolf's Rain, Bleach and I would be set.Originally Posted by Beckwin
Hold on a minute. Now, there's a difference between altering the manga slightly and what they did to Hellsing. You don't just change the entire story, the personalities of every single character, the art style, and remove 90% of the humor when you go from book to TV. You've probably heard this before, but the OVA is the only real translation of Hellsing to anime form.Originally Posted by Beckwin
Lemme put it this way: If they had marketed it as something else, it would be fantastic.
Chronologically, Cowboy Bebop was an anime before it was a manga. In the general case, adaptations that follow the source generally degrade the original material's appeal to 'original' fans.Originally Posted by BRP
However, it's not always the case that the original is the most enjoyable form of the material. Novel > Anime transitions work well (Haruhi, Full Metal Panic, etc.).
woah, didn't we have a thread like this like a year ago, i remember the funny guy in red where people kept taking screenies of him comparing him to MJ and some other shit o_O
Gee, what can we put more effort, detail and time into, a 26 episode 20min color animated series, or books that arnt animated, in black and white, and can be as long as need? Ofcourse youre going to see better things in the manga.
But I like anime over manga, because it has pretty color pictures and moves. Its like a picture book, or book on tape, why read it when you can listen and watch. But wait! you have to read subtitles! oh well, still less too read and it gets the point across for the most part.
