I hated One Piece for a while BECAUSE of 4Kids' dub. I like One Piece now to the point that I'm currently catching up to the subs, that's how into it I got. I love the Skypiea(sp) arc.

Oh, regarding that "list of anime that nobody can hate" I can hate Death Note. And I do. So so so much. Bleach too.

The story of Death Note is interesting, but I keep watching hoping that Light will die because he is such an insufferable assbucket even though there are 30 episodes left in the series. And I don't understand how people can dismiss Inuyasha as "DBZ for girls", yet so many people praise Bleach even though it is DBZ for ghosts. I just don't get it.

I could point out flaws and reasons to hate every single anime on that list if I tried hard enough. Nothing is perfect, the only difference is that a lot of people are told to like something or told to hate something, so they do. Would any seriously hate a show because the main character wears an orange jacket? I'm sure there are plenty of reasons to dislike Naruto, but saying he can't wear orange is evidence of sheepish mentality.

I think the most confusing part about Naruto is when they want to cast a spell they throw gang signs. That's fucking strange.

They explain that "handsigns" in the series itself. They are seals to unlock/shift your chakra/"energy" into jutsus/"magic".

I've seen a lot of my favorites already mentioned, Card Captor Sakura, Haruhi, Ghost in a Shell. I cried like a baby at the end of Elfen Lied and Wolf's Rain.

Has anyone watched Outlaw Star? I don't see many people talk about it and I'm sure people who got a kick out of Cowboy Bebop would love it. I thought it was a great show.

I also like anme like Noir and Gunslinger Girl, some of the best imo.

I for one am happy that Soccer is not big in America. Americans hate getting one-upped on anything, so our soccer riots would have to involve the destruction of entire cities or the firing of nuclear weapons considering how bad they get in some other countries.

Some people take things a little far. I'd say the folks in the video are...or of course, are being directed to by the TV station. Japanese TV is not exactly subtle.

Personally, I've always been into animation, comics, etc. The U.S. has their styles of things, Japan has theirs. They have giant robots, we have spandex and mysterious powers. Whatever. I do think Anime tends to be more consistent with having things across the range of subjects and target audience.

I think it's one of those things that, like American comics or whatever else, most people could find something that'd entertain them if they didn't just outright dismiss the medium based on perceived notions and give things a chance. Of course, 30-year olds going bat-shit insane over cartoons intended for 8-12 year old Japanese boys doesn't help the perception =P

A friend of mine who had a similar dislike of Light said that Monster was a similar series in many ways, but without the instantly despicable main character. Haven't gotten around to watching it myself though.
