if I get one game, or one system, which should it be?

i'm thinking about getting, in order of expensiveness:

wii, for mario and zelda, and fun casual gaming (maybe gf will like it too)
ps2 cuz it has a big libary
    gamecube for zelda, etc.

or should I stick with pc? my laptop sucks but i have a nice tv.

my fav games (from pc and consoles) have been:

ffxi, tribes, zelda, deus ex, age of empires 1 & 2, goldeneye, and WoW is ok.

    recommendation?

Do you already own a DS? Because that's a better buy than any of those 3 consoles at this point. That is, if you're doing it for the game library.

    Hello joft.

Ps2 and gamecube should be easy to find cheap, as well as their games, which ps2 definately has more of. Wii is pretty damn good now with a few select titles and hopefully will only get better. If you can find a wii and have the cash, id go for that. You can easily find the other two.

Also Wii is backwards compatible with all gamecube games, so getting yourself a GC along with a controller/memory card will allow you to play both Wii and GC games.

If this is serious, theres no reason to buy a Gamecube, its completely dead and the Wii plays all Gamecube games anyway.

If you haven't played any games for the past 7 years, the PS2 has an absolutely amazing library of now cheap titles.

Get a Wii w/ Super Mario Galaxy. It's backwards compatible w/ GC, and since you've experienced relatively little of either, it's not a bad decision. The only problem is that the Wii is very, very difficult to find (650,000 units sold in 2 weeks during November). I'd pick up Super Smash Bros. Melee in preparation for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, too.

Again, the PS2 is a classic, and also relatively cheap. There's always Emulators/ROMs too...although I dunno if this forum bans people that talk about piracy or not.

Here's my Top 20, so this might give a few suggestions.

    Top 20 Favorite Games:
    1. Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC)
    2. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64)
    3. Final Fantasy VII (PS1)
    4. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
    5. Chrono Trigger (SNES)
    6. Tales of Symphonia (GC)
    7. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
    8. Fire Emblem (GBA)
    9. Super Smash Bros. (N64)
    10. Final Fantasy VI (SNES)
    11. Final Fantasy X (PS2)
    12. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii)
    13. Kingdom Hearts 2 (PS2)
    14. Super Mario 64 (N64)
    15. Metroid Prime (GC)
    16. Kingdom Hearts (PS2)
    17. Resident Evil 4 (Wii/PS2/GC)
    18. Final Fantasy IX (PS1)
    19. Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
    20. Super Metroid (SNES)

I think the rule was just don't link to rom sites or something. Not that hard to find anyway though.

And yeah, if you haven't seen a video game made in the last 10 years, get a PS2.

Buy a Wii, it'll get you extra sex. I bought a 360a couple months ago, wish I'd bought a Wii instead. Wii Sports makes my gf horny.

my only reason for listing GC was price. college student..

what are some of the best titles from the libraries of wii/ps2, and which do you think is better?

also, does the novelty of the wii remote wear off and become annoying? i've heard from a lot of people that they play their wiis for like a few days and then never again.

well if you want the best titles and a good price go with the PS2, its cheaper and has more out there than the wii.

Nah, it doesn't become annoying. Metroid Prime 3 is a good example of it. Also, it's not like all Wii games really shove the Wii mote right in your face all the time, there's plenty of them that incorporate it as necessary.

Alongside this, Wii lets you download a lot of SNES/NES/N64/Sega Genesis games too, so that's another thing to consider.

So, Wii and PS2, can't really go wrong.

That is what I meant. And I also meant that you can't go wrong really with either choice.

does either library have better games for a casual gamer?

it's become difficult for me to really get into games nowadays.

If that's the case then I'd say Wii. I consider myself a casual gamer...play at most 30-60 minutes a day. Games like Zelda and Mario you can finish in nice small chunks if you wish as you can save and just walk away.

Resident Evil : 4 is another nice game.

WiI Sports, sometimes I'll play a quick round of bowling to kill time, takes as little as 5-10 minutes.

Then you have games like Super Smash Bros and No More Heroes coming out in February, and at some point later next year Mario Kart, etc. I also forgot to mention Metriod Prime 3.

My wife loves to play Wii sports, and for some odd reason she pester me about playing Mario and Zelda every day because she likes to watch me play and help solve puzzles.

Speaking of puzzles, there's also Zack and Wiki.

Wii just barely wins out because of Virtual Console and delicious old hard-to-find games (Pokemon Snap + Wii Controller = instant win)
