Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

So my question is: Why can't people spare that few seconds to raise a few deads after campaign? Because they might "oh crap, missed a 2nd campaign!"?
Basically. The people that are waiting around for their cap to rise will raise you of course, but most people just zerg to the next fight to get 300xp before it ends.

I have noticed, though, that mages are very friendly in Campaign -- I get more haste spam in campaign from people I don't know than I do in merit parties with a dual-rdm setup. I spend more time /bowing and saying thank you to JPs than I do killing these days.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

I don't know how anyone does Campaign without /whm, especially solo. Ideally it's more fun to go with proper SJs and full PTs, but the conditions are usually not ideal, and you die a lot, and you can't always rely on people. I've been taking RNG/WHM to Campaigns for the past week-- I'd feel naked without reraise. Sure I'd love to sub NIN or WAR and pwn shit up real good, but I'd much rather be in control of my raises than flex my epeen.

Of course though I do stay behind to raise people when the fight ends-- I just personally hate being in that position to have to hope someone will do it for me when I die :/ meh

I don't think I'd live even an 1/8th of what I do if I went thf/whm over /nin . Sure I'd be able to RR myself, but the moment I plink a monster with my daggers, I'm pretty much tanking it.

My role in campaign as a thief from what I've been doing so far, is wait for the group of mobs rape an NPC or a PC, then plink 1 mob off the train, then pull it away and start soloing it, then a bunch of people grab on and keep going. The mob accuracy is by no means low, and they don't hit -too- hard but hard enough to eat me if we were going 1 for 1.

Weird though for rng to not want to /nin, you have access to bloodies don't you? I use those to heal myself in campaign, maybe time to unretire that o-bow

So yeah after last patch the map is updating more frequently and the battles last longer! Awesome!

That means you can still be nice and raise other ppl and warn them of NMs with ridiculus AOEs like War Machine. Mages melee is fun but if a NIN or PLD maintanks your mob spare a Haste and a Cure.

NM warmachine that showed up at vunkerl intlet seemed pretty broken, was 1-2 shotting everyone with aoe that went through shadows. Seemed like even the tp moves that are normally single target were all aoe for him... We ended up with a huge pile of corpses within seconds without anyone really dealing damage to it, with new people warping in just to get owned, until the sandy npc with excalibur showed up to solo it.

Blastbomb hurts from Warmachine (that's the ranged AoE fire type move)- it can also toss AM's (I saw Burst) as well. Normal WS'es for the type, just ramped up cause it's such a huge NM. Also saw it firing off Fountain as well, hosed me down for over 1K and a KO at one point.

Burst is actually a TP move used by warmachines. It's the move that fires a volley of arrows.

Someone needs to make a tool similar to FFXIAH which updates the campaign map on the fly.

Hmmm, would it be too hard to have a tool that samples whatever tag it is that is turned on when the music starts/NPC's get Sword icons?

Well, doesn't the FFXIAH thing just check all the different AH's with a mule?

Imagine it would be too much to have a mule in every campaign zone checking for the music/NPC.

Short of using hacks to port around or checking for the ID of the music/NPC getting the Sword icon, I can't think of a way to do it really.

How does FFXIAH work anyway? I can't find an explaination anywhere.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

I always go monk/war because it's more fun that way. Also gives my PLD/whm friend a chance to earn more points than me through cures :D

I get hasted, raised, cured and Pro/Shell by my duo partner and outside people, I had 2 RDMs following me around just to rack up points lol. Sometimes I'd be hasted 3 or 4 times while tanking in rolanberry (though tanking is just a side effect of Hasted monk/war). Not many would leave without <2000 EXP pre fight and everyone seemed happy.

The AH servers are actually separate from the standard servers to some degree (IE they have their own IP address IIRC). What your FFXI client does when you check price history is it sends a query to those servers and the servers respond with the data. Somebody (I think it was Cliff) found all this out, found the IP addresses of the AH servers, found how to submit a proper query and found how to interpret the response into understandable data. It sends many, many queries very fast since it runs a custom program that doesn't have the 1 query at a time limit that the FFXI client has. That data retrieved for each item is then tossed into the FFXIAH database for all to view.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

Healers--even if you have a PT, if your group is playing lazy and is scared to get hate on the big scary-wary mobs, tab around for the people who aren't scared to look it in the face. Generally it's pretty easy to spot when a mob is staring at a PLD or NIN in front of it. Take care of those people or your PT is apt to become victims of zerging when the few people willing to tank do go down.

Melees--PUT THE F'ING KRAKENS AWAY! Jesus christ. Yes, let's take some already very difficult mobs--some with particularly nasty TP moves, and just f'ing feed them even even more TP. You're a freaking genius! In a players-zerging-attackers situation that's meh, but when a heap of gigas stroll in and there are people like me trying to solo or at least hold them because we're obviously outnumbered, don't f'ing wail away at the main targets with it. I totally need those body slam AOEs, really. If you want to use your fancy-pants spikey club, go solo stuff/make a PT and fight stuff off in a corner away from the bulk of people.

Anyone with Raise--I could well be wrong and indeed every time I'm dead or see someone dead, all people in the area that can raise are out of mp. Though I find it unlikely. Also, please don't raise that solo 42DNC who came for some unknown brainless reason and -do- raise kiters/sleepers/tanks so you can attempt to limit damage to fortifications. WHMs... I know R2 and 3 are meaningless with tags on, but you're still permitted to use them to get people up faster. If you have mp, why are you sitting there waiting for your R1 timer? If you hate raising everyone, nag SE to make RR easier for the casual or solo person.

Melees--If you're confused about what's being killed or just have no idea what's going on at all, put in an /assist on the leader NPCs (if one is around). Chances are some of the wiser players are also assisting. Well, wiser is a bad word. -I- will be assisting them, so if you attack you won't instantly get hate and die!

Tanks--Stop being wusses and actually voke things if you have a PT/healer. Unless it's one of the NMs that spam godawful AOE every 3 seconds, or has 1-shotga, or uses Hundred Fists, you can totally take it. In my view, NINs seem to work better on turtles (very strong), PLDs on Orcs (MNK and RNG mobs that eat shadows for breakfast), and either on Yagudo (sissies). Keep in mind that as long as you're tanking, it's making life substantially easier on everyone else and speeds up kills, so even if you do die it was quite noble.

DNCs/SCHs--Yes, it's very cool you got lvl50, 60 or higher already! However, don't come to the deathtraps by yourself to show off and attempt to impress people. Hint: It's not working. I'm only noticing you because you're acting like an idiot and get all emo when people don't raise you asap. Sorry, mages need MP to raise productive (re: lvl70+ at least) people.

I've been NIN/WHM soloing for 2 weeks straight now in this stuff. It makes me cry to be /whm but both solo or with random morons spamming invites at a battle it's kept me alive way more. Most of the crying is due to the fact I'd rather be tanking the actual group attack mobs--Instead, I'm like a crutch to the group there because I can pull off/hold things in a messy situation but since I'm /whm and have no voke people won't touch a mob I'm face-to-face with (can't say I blame them much). Still, without knowing I'll actually get cures/haste, I can't be /war. I can even solo most of the crap, or hold it indefinitely (the normal mobs, at least) and my NIN is gimp as hell, so I figure everyone else should have it way easier. If I could be nin/whm and have a voke I'd be all over it. I'm currently envious of pld/nins, but I'm too poor for that much in RR items anyway.

Also tried while solo... (my jobs being WAR NIN SAM):
NIN/WAR--died constantly due to no support and because people are sissies and are scared to tank.
SAM/WAR--see above, but no utsusemi just sped up the process.
SAM/WHM--died constantly, but at least I could cast RR without spending gil endlessly on RR earrings/pins. Third eye is good defense against some strong TP moves and a few stray attacks if you get hate... but it doesn't soak up AOE like utsusemi does, so eventually vs orcs or birds you get worn down. Oh, and some major issues regarding getting 1-shot with IV spells and AM/AM2
WAR/WHM--died constantly. Again, at least I could RR myself. Even while deliberately wearing 'fashion gear' and being lazy as hell, it's about impossible to not get hate at some point for the same reasons listed above. People are wusses and refuse to tank, and strong magic troubles.
WAR/NIN--Re: NIN/WAR but with zero evasion and -1 shadow.

Edit: Worth noting I'm fighting Quadav more than anything else.

You could say "omigah why are you solo?!". Fair question. I'm playing at a lot of weirdish times, or dominant JPN times... I don't really look for the random pickup groups. Besides, people see nin/whm and think "oh they probably want to solo". A dilemma either way--deliberately look like you don't want invites as /whm (even if I toss flag up), or risk a 100% chance of death on the hopes you'll get picked up by some kind of haster/support and/or healer as /war.

    Edit: Misc junk.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

I tank a lot as War/Sam, as long as people notice who is being swung at, getting occasional cures isn't too hard.

Tip: Mages, /assist whichever big nasty mob you're fighting, and cure that person if they're holding the thing, but being whittled away over time from 0 cures.

I had two White Mages stand there as I tanked a orc from 100% to about 35%, I'm asking, begging for anyone to toss me a cure so I can keep on tanking it...and they apparently didn't hear me, but the instant I died, one of them tossed me a raise.

Gee, thanks guys, that'll help everyone!

For the Nin/Whm, go Nin/Dnc, you can voke, piss shit off, cure yourself, and hold a bit of hate.

I can't wait to get /Dnc finished, myself.

It's kind of like Besieged. Way too many morons running around.
-People that want to leech some fast exp on their Lv 40 job.
-People that never did Dynamis and have no clue of crowd control, casting stupidgaIII and AoE WS on a bunch of sleeped mobs.
-People that find it funny to pull NMs to the middle of resting/weakened players.
-Tanks that just watch the WHM or sleepers like BLMs/BRDs die before they decide to voke.
It's all there. But overall it's still fun to me. Sometimes you actually get good battles with strangers working together.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

I've been playing DRK/WHM a lot recently in Campaign, it's pretty tough to kill. Divine Seal, Blink, Stoneskin, Dreadspikes, Drain 1/2, Aspir, Absorbs... easy to tank with, easy to DD with, and great for kiting huge packs of mobs. No one ever heals the DRKs when going gets rough though. Reraise for the win.

Something i noticed though, is that even though nearly every NM resists Stun, Campaign mobs can't resist other Dark Magic to save their lives. Aspir, Drain, Drain 2, and Absorbs all stick with like 0% resist rates. Makes staying alive very easy. DRKs should be spamming these.

On the other end of the "Tanks that watch mages die."

I've had several occasions where I see a mob chasing a mage, voke it and start tanking, to have a couple of people join in.

Then, as I sit there getting whittle away bit by bit, I ask nicely for a cure...two Whm's sitting right beside me, rdm on the other side of the mob.

No, better to let the dude tanking die, so the mob starts spinning around hitting people randomly til it dies, then toss him a raise, than to actually cure him and GET EXPERIENCE POINTS FOR DOING SO!
