Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

There's been many a time when I've pulled a mob on my red mage some ways away from the group to sleep -> nuke it. What I've noticed a lot of times though is that players will immediately show up out of nowhere and start attacking it, leaving other yellow mobs around to attack fortifications and the like.
It was especially apparent when campaign was first starting out and no one wanted to die. People tend to only attack purple mobs while leaving a bunch more yellow that then proceed to beat the shit out of the fortification (less of a problem with the recent NPC buff). What I'm getting at is, if you're a melee and you see a yellow mob, stop being a chicken shit and attack it. Besides, as soon as it turns purple others will start getting brave.

Again, mages, if you see a melee willing to go smack the mob around...take a couple seconds out of tapping it for 5 damage with your wand and cure them to try and max out your points.

I go War/Sam for the DD versatility and ability to tank on the fly, means I get nuked liberally, I promise if you were to just take some time out of swinging the hammer and spend more time casting cure/haste on melees/tanks, you'll get a shit load of exp.

Yeah I'm not so hot on going as tank anymore, I have gotten raises but this will be my second HP because people trampled my corpse in their haste to leave the zone, even after raising someone right next to me. I'll stay on RDM so I can not be an asshole and raise people who die.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

I'm a Warrior only, full Gaxe and Crit merits, with a 6 hit build /Sam, spinning an Mbhuj over my head regularly for Steel Cyclones (especially if theres a monk around, I time it to close Darkness off em, since few Campaign mobs resist it, it seems) so I kind of have to tank. T.T

Only way I can avoid tanking is cherry picking mobs, but I can't just sit around and then jump in at the end.

    Two more things:

WHMs, learn to love Repose. It is such a splendiferously wonderful spell.

Melees don't go after sleeping mobs when there are awake mobs attacking the fortifications. Some mobs cannot be slept, but if they are cheerfully slumbering, target something else that is doing damage.

    Orcish Warmachine:
Barfire, Fire Carol and M.def gear (RDM main so Magic Defense Bonus too): 0 Damage from Blastbomb, Although Fountain seemed to break through, Unknown if punched through resist or buffs were wearing or it's just not as blockable.

If you're a RDM or BRD, please Dispel. Some NMs are heavily buffed (Some Quads, especially) and a few Dispels can make quite the difference.

I always approach these events with the belief that I need to be able to take care of myself. If you go running out to campaign with the belief that:

a.) you're going to get cured/hasted by someone
b.) someone is going to tank for you
c.) someone is going to raise you during the event

Then I'm I'm sorry but you're living in a dream world. Mages like to melee as well, and their MP doesn't exist to save you're ass. Mages are there just like melee to have a fun time, not baby your ass.

    Who's there?
    The People.
    The People who?
The People who Designed Campaign to reward Curing heavily, so guess fucking what, babying my ass helps you more than spanking the buff as hell mob with a paddle for 5 damage.

If you didn't get exp for curing a lot of HP, I wouldn't mind at all, but it's IN YOUR BEST INTERESTS to cure my damaged ass, and hey, what do ya know, it helps everyone out in the end.

Sorry if I'm a little grumpy, I am really disappointed about the campaign system notification only applying to the zone YOU'RE ALREADY FUCKING IN FOR CAMPAIGN!

Sadly I consistently get more points for nuking than curing as a job comparably proficient in both (SCH). Seems like you get even fewer points for spamming raise than curing. They aren't reinforcing the most cooperative priorities, to say the least.

One epic fight in Grauberg, we had four waves of Quads, Shadowhorn and Shadoweye pounding us at various times.

I got 1750 from DDing, but was dead quite a few times.

Whm/Nin who was running around curing and raising while he whacked at things, got 2760.

There is no way in hell that he did enough damage with hexa strike to get 1000 more than I did, spamming Raging Rush every 5 swings.

Hell, even considering he was able to reraise himself and get back in action faster than I was, I find it hard to believe he even 1000 of that from straight DD, even with him being a well geared little Whinja (offhand prudence+torque ftw) but as he was one of the main people curing NPC's, raising people, and keeping us all alive, he cured a shitload of damage.

When I went out as War75/Dnc25, just from curing myself and doing a bit of damage in some short fights, I was easily able to get 800-1k rapidly, when I'd usually come away with 300-400.

Curing definitely gets you a lot of exp, Paladins are the ones that I always see reporting huge exp rewards, they're taking damage, curing damage, and hitting the things.

Uhhh did they change this? I remember getting terrible exp being a main healer on RDM, and just stopped going as RDM. I definetly remember getting like 1/4 or 1/3 the exp my melees were getting while I kept them alive and buffed- they just did the normal engage, semi-afk, pop a WS, pop a voke. This is was when Campaign was first introduced, though I heard mages bitch after the next two "patches", has it changed now?

I don't know where you're getting these insane numbers from, I know abilities give a lot of points- perhaps that's why you're racking in the points as a melee/dancer? >_> And I seem to recall curing NPCs gave more exp than curing PCs, and Raising gave decent exp. Either way it doesn't help your case- bring shit to take care of yourself.

    I am not your baby-sitter.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

Paladins always own me on Exp, the Whm/Nin totally blew me away and as I said, there is no way the damage he put out was enough to make up the difference he got.

Varying between 15 and 25% haste depending if I can get away with hasso, 5 hits after WS I get 100 Tp, Raging Rushes for 500 on fully buffed mobs, to 1300-1400 on unbuffed ones with doubles, plus meleeing for 100-290 with crits, toss in meditate, using Seigan/Third Eye regularly when im getting hate, voking mobs I've got hate on, and the like.

Then compare the ability list of the Whm/Nin, Divine Seal, T2 Merit if he has Devotion or whatnot... and uh...what other JA's do Whm/Nin's get?

I had a lvl 59 Whm following me around just keeping me alive for a few fights, without them swinging at all, they always got around half the exp I got for tanking, voking, DDing, and taking damage. Had they been able to keep up the cures more (had outside help from a Rdm and random cures in many fights) they would have kept up with the exp I got, if they were DDing too, they would have beaten me probably.

Nevermind that curing NPC's gives Exp too.

You can melee and toss out cures, especially when the mob is being tanked and the tank is dying slowly enough to actually give HP updates and beg for a little help.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

Are you dying? Because, despite popular opinion, dying is a pretty big chunk of points lost. (It about halves your allied notes as far as I can tell, and sizable chunk of exp lost) This could, of course, be remedied by you bringing some way to keep yourself alive instead of having to lean on Jim, Bob, Jack, and Mary for help. Because they don't give a shit about you and they shouldn't need to, you're just a drop in the bucket of a hundred other warriors there. I bet those warriors, if using a more "DD sub" probably come with some sort of mage friend to keep them alive. There are very few people I know who do Campaign alone <_<

WHM/NIN probably can probably survive alot longer than WAR/SAM. This allows him to get more points by a) living, b) doing shit while you're weakened c) raise/cure etc. It's in that order too btw, curing really does give shit points.

Paladins? Not dying, the ability to tank something w/o begging for cures, and what not help. If you were to just simply try to keep yourself alive instead of having to come to others for support you would get more points, but because you don't put forth that effort you don't. Its no one's fault but your own.

Footnote: The only job abilities outside of merits White Mage gets are Benediction and Divine Seal. Ninja doesn't get any. Therefore WHM/NIN is Benediction, Divine Seal w/o merits >_> This is a near worthless discussion however, because every Job Ability used while under Allied Tags is a piddly 1 Allied Note.

    tl;dr
Curing sucks, do it yourself if you want it. Raising is decent, but you lose notes and time for dying. Your issue of "losing" to white mages and paladins could be remedied if you simply took the initiative to look after yourself.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

I'm in the process of leveling /Dnc up, though I lose a lot of the tanking ability that War/Sam gives with two out of three campaign mobs, I don't die a lot, because when people aren't paying any attention to the tank, which I often end up being, I avoid tanking so much.

Generally my deaths involve peeking around a corner to see if mobs have gotten here, to see two waves bumrush me, or some dick fighting Ga'Dho next to other people, with them in his Ore Lob deathga spam range.

It will be nice to cure myself, but given how randomly there are people there to tank mobs, I guess I'll have to see how well /Dnc can tank.

I figure, I'm keeping the mob from chewing on some squishy mages guts, at the risk of my own AN total, it doesn't take a lot of curing to keep me standing, War/Sam owns Quads, and against anything but the battle dance spamming Orc NM, it's rockin there too, only Yags make it lame with Sweep spam.

A cure III or IV every couple of minutes and I can keep the mob in place, aimed away from mages, and do a significant portion of the work killing it.

Or, I can get left alone, die, let the mob run around murdering people, and then we can all wait to get raised back up and try again.

I do it solo alot, yes, but I'm not a random DD, I'm tanking the vast majority of the time, and that is my biggest gripe.

If you notice someone being nice enough to take the brunt of the damage for you, toss his ass a cure so everyone can focus on killing the mob and moving to the next one, not hoping another tank shows up while the last one is weakened.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

I've been going RDM/BLM my last few campaign outings since I went with a small ls party, and I normally just sleepga'd, enfeebled, refreshed, hasted, and mostly cured the crap out of everything I could, with the odd nuke. I always outexp'd and outnoted the melees. In a Grauberg campaign we were late to, they got about 600 exp/320ish allied notes, I got something like 750/778.

Maybe they changed it since, maybe there's other factors (I took a fair amount of damage since the stupid NPCs would wake random mobs up forcing me to tank 'em for awhile), but going on RDM at least definitely seems worthwhile enough.

    People?

You mean the people who left me to melee an orc for 10 minutes expending all my MP trying to keep myself alive, keeping hate by melee only? Those people, no they will not see me help them much as they have not helped me.

Those people who go attack the fortification while a select few have pulled a single yagudo away from the fort to make it clear, promptly agro's 2 more yagudo, and then drags them over to our small group standing there waiting for a cure? These people, no they will not see me help them.

My faith in 'people' has been limited. 'People' like to just go solo, I'll cure the hell out of my party though.

    Following your story:

I was once in a campaign in North Gustaberg. Mr Poison Fugger decided to show up, I Cure V'd for a good half hour, because that poison is so very tasty. Raised quite a significant amount of people. Died 4 times due to overcuring and raising. I received 890 exp. My melee buddy, who recevied a significant amount of Cure V's and also was a DRG to heal himself (intelligence, i love it), snuck away with 1940.

I'll never feel that the healing balance is there.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

There is a trifecta, Curing+DDing+Taking Damage= max points.

Find someone who only cured, or only DDed, or only took damage that got 3k exp off a campaign.

I'm not asking for random heals as a random melee getting AoE'D.

I'm asking that if you see someone tanking a mob (not a dipshit who got aggro, I mean actively tanking it), keep an eye on them, even if they aren't in your party, because when they go down, it gets harder on everyone.

Even Paladins need curing with some mobs, watch one try to keep themselves cured against Ga'Dho or Rognoj sometime.

Myself, I liked the idea of people going in, and helping each other fight off the hordes, and getting rewarded in the process. Not "omg, fuck you all, every man for themselves."

I wind up in a lot of 5 and 6 man Campaigns with no NPC's, when the people who can cure and the people who can tank work together, you can rack up gobs of exp, and even beat back the mobs if you don't get ran under by multiple simultaneous waves.

There is a reason you don't see people try to tank mobs in Campaign much, it's because they are often buff as hell, and sadly noone gives two shits about a tank not in their party.

To turn this around, why should I voke that mob hitting you with 800 damage crits and interrupting your spells as you try frantically to stay alive? My provoke isn't there for you, getting killed sucks. Guess you should carry a tank around full time.
