He also represents a lot of different interests too. On top of that there is value to have someone who is a part of that industry to analyze the impact of what they say, its not like he makes up the majority of the board as swampdonkey said. You may not agree with his presence but it would be more bizarre if there was no one from the energy industry on the board of directors.Originally Posted by SwampdonkeyPLD

Yep, 1+1 = 2 and theres 14 total so that equals 2/14. I look forward to seeing the rest.
Edit: Don't forget to check all their sources as well. They may have biased interests in the report, but if their sources are all legit does it still matter?
Regardless of my opinions, and that's not to say that the guy shouldn't have any part in this sort of thing, but, that made me lol.Originally Posted by Correction

And did anyone think that maybe the Mr. Thompson's Petroleum Corp. was actually developing ways for burning oil cleaner and more efficiently. I mean i know it's probably not true, but damn everyone is so quick to attack.
Wasn't attacking, just pointing out there's a conflict of interest, which casts a shadow of bias on any recommendations he makes to congress on behalf of his own financial interest.Originally Posted by SupHammer
Well that was kinda my point. You don't know if it's a conflict of interest, as you have no idea what kind of work Thompson does. And congress and bias will always be intertwined , there's no separating the two.Originally Posted by Correction
He owns an oil company and is producing materials that, if bought by people making public policy, will directly affect him financially. There's a lot of self-interest in what he does and while it's not against the law to make money, he's certainly hiding behind the aegis of a 'non-partisan research group' in order to line his pockets. That's gotta set off a few alarms.Originally Posted by SupHammer

Foundations gave the following amounts to the National Center for Policy Analysis think tank in 2005: [3]
* Sarah Scaife Foundation - $125,000
* Earhart Foundation - $40,000
* Armstrong Foundation - $45,000
* The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, Inc. - $195,000
* Gordon and Mary Cain Foundation - $25,000
* Claude R. Lambe Charitable Foundation - $25,000
The NCPA web site states that in 2006 it receives 62% of its funding from foundations, 21% from corporations, and 17% from individuals. [4] Between 1985 and 2005, the Center received $8,499,850 in 161 separate grants.
Previous years:
* Castle Rock Foundation
* Earhart Foundation
* JM Foundation
* Koch Family Foundations (David H. Koch Foundation, Charles G. Koch Foundation, Claude R. Lambe Foundation)
* John M. Olin Foundation, Inc.
* Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation
* Philip M. McKenna Foundation, Inc.
* Scaife Foundations (Scaife Family, Sarah Mellon Scaife, Carthage)
* DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund
* El Paso Energy Foundation
* ExxonMobil Foundation
* Eli Lilly and Company Foundation
* Lilly Endowment
* Procter & Gamble Fund
So, so far we have 2/14 directors that could be biased, and 1/14 money givers that has a special interest? Also have all the sources of the information at the end to.
Don't forget also El Paso Energy and DaimlerChrysler, and the rest of them who knows, but probably.
In case you aren't aware of their business plan, these think tanks basically earn their money by shilling.
What is shilling?
