    Re: NFL Week 14 Picks.

The officiating in the NFL blows hard and its starting to get to me. For one I'm sick of the "Not enough visual evidence" excuse officials use as a cop out for having to actually make a call they can be criticized for later. That catch Gates made at the end of the Chargers game was clearly dropped yet the official was too much of a pussy to actually make the call.

Then I get to see the touch foul called against Baltimore on the 4th and 5 last week, and this week on 4th and 8 the Eagles reciever gets tackled (literally) well before the ball reaches him and no flag is thrown. That was as blatant a Pass Interference as I've ever seen and no call.

The NFL needs to have full time officials and actually make them accountable for shitty calls like every other damn professional sport out there.

What are you talking about. The ref didn't throw the flag for illegal contact. He threw it because the CB didn't locate the ball in the air before he tryed to make a play. They even showed a replay of another play right after showing what you're supposed to do in that situation.

Edit: I never even brought up Faceguarding, Arch did. I simply said that DB's aren't supposed to put their hands up or make a play to the ball without turning around first. The guy was just flagged for doing exactly that, lol.

Can you read the ref's mind, because he almost tackled the guy before the ball got there, and the ref just said "pass interference, defense". Seems like a legit call to me.

No but John Madden can. He explained the play and why the ref called it right after, lol.

Edit: Woot Troy Smith's NFL debut.

John Madden said, and I quote almost verbatim "You can turn around and make a play on the ball, but you can't not turn around and just run into derek mason". He ran into the WR...it's a "no shit" call. I'll post the video if you'd like.

It's not that big a deal but when I was watching it didn't look like they made much contact.

This was about .5-1 second before the ball even got to him. He wrapped him up.

    Edit: And the video.

As great as college football may be in determining who will be big in the NFL, I tend not to put too much stock in to it for two reasons:

Reason 1) Chris Weinke; 2000-something Heisman Trophy Winner. Who the fuck is Chris Weinke amirite?

Reason 2) Tomy Romo; Eastern Illinois University; enough said.

As far as Derek Anderson becoming a free agent goes, I definitely forsee Cleveland doing whatever it is in their power to keep him. They'll still probably keep Brady Quinn as the back-up in case something happens to Anderson.

Um...no. No one thought Weinke was going to be good in the NFL. He was old as shit in college (28 years old or something right?) when he played at Florida State. No one thought Danny Wuerfel was going to be good, and no one thought Eric Crouch was going to be good. You can add Troy Smith and about XYZ other QB's that didn't come out of the SEC into those same sentences.

Look at all the Heisman candidates. None of those QB will even be the first QB drafted in the draft. I doubt any team wants another Ty Detmer(former Hawaii QB, I think off, the top of my head), Tebow will be absolute shit in the NFL, and Chase Daniel might be the 3rd or 4th pick if he enters the draft. McFadden is the only one you can judge out of that bunch based on what he did in college games.

My friend was over my house watching the chargers game. Huge chargers fan. When that play went down, we both pretty much knew conclusively that he didn't catch it. Common sense and simple trajectory logistics would indicate that the chance he actually caught that ball without it hitting the ground was probably less than a percent. None-the-less, the replay they showed on CBS absolutely did not show substantial evidence that PROVED that he didn't catch it. Yeah, we all know that there's no way he got his hands under that, but you can't blame it on the replay, blame it on the "on-field" call. If it were called an incomplete pass on the field, the replay would have also resulted in an incomplete pass.

Edit: Tim Couch came out of the SEC as a QB and was very highly touted. We all know how that played out. But in the SEC's defense, he came out of UK, which at that time, probably couldn't win the WAC.

On another note, where the hell has this colts team been all season? I know the ravens aren't starting some of their best defensive players, but holy shit. I kinda laughed at Dungi practically pulling the starters out after half time. Sorgi looks like he's about 5'10 and 150lbs soak and wet.
The Colts are 11-2, and should have beat the Pats. What in the fuck are you talking about? Last I looked their numbers are pretty fucking stellar, even without their best WR.

Im just referring to the past 2 games. They've been doing it this year with great running and lights out defense, but the past 2 games have looked a lot like the 04 season.

They always had a good running game. Edge won rushing titles at Indy...

Edit- About Chad Johnson - seems like rumor on most fan boards is he is also trying to force his way out. I figured since it was so widespread he must have been a free agent. That list was off the top of my head, so some might be wrong.

I think you are reading too far into what I say. I simply meant the past 2 weeks they've carved some really good defenses in the passing game, where as Addai and the backs haven't carried a large workload past 2 games.

Once again you are right and Deejay is wrong. That's not what we were talking about at all. We were talking about NO CONTACT pass interference with just the hands in the receiver's face.

How many second year quarterbacks are doing better than young? 1 if you count romo which he's technically not

And how many are 7-6 in far and away the toughest division in football?

Really people on both sides just need to let the wins and losses do the talking, cuz the reality is that's all that matters in the nfl, they're all freakishly good. Even the 3rd stringers that never see the field.

I love that two anonymous Wisconsin QBs are managing to hang around in the league (Sorgi for the Colts and Brooks Bollinger for the Vikings). I went to Wisconsin while they both played and noone thought either was particularly good (also we did kinda love Sorgi, as he was the backup QB for most of the time, and everyone loves the backup). His career 97.2 passer rating (better than Peyton Manning's...lol) reminds me of when Hasselbeck was backing up Favre all those years - best pre-season QB of all time.
