Re: New Final Fantasy IV trailer

Its harder than the "hard-type" JP version. I just got past the Tower of Babel today, and I ended up dying a couple times to random mobs (the flame dogs) because they have an AOE breath move that does like 700 dmg to everyone, and if there's ever more than one of those in a random encounter, you're fucked if you can't cast Berserk on them before they attack you. Ended up running away from them if there was ever more than one. My guys are like 5-10 levels overleveled too (ex: When Rydia rejoins the party, she rejoined at level 28 or 29, Cecil and Yang were almost 40, Rosa and Kain were 34-35ish).

The thing that makes boss fights so hard now is that every boss has some sort of Counter move, and you have to deal damage while avoiding or reducing the amount of counters you take (usually just doing the best dmg per action move like a 3x boosted attack by Yang, or Kain's Jump). Some counters are easy (Dr. Lugae would just sleep one character, and since I had the Attract Decant on Cecil, he'd be the only one taking dmg and being slept), but some can just totally screw you (I can't remember it correctly atm, but Scarmillion or whatever before you turn into a Paladin raped my face a few times).

I <3 FFIV! I even ordered the figurines...waiting for it to ship now <.<

Dr. Lugae's second form was a big boo, much more annoying on the DS version.

I think FF4 is the only game where party members just come in and out of your party ALL THE GODDAMN TIME... and for some reason, I really liked it. >.> I wish they would use that formula again (where even if a character leaves you at level 20, when he rejoins the group towards the end of the game or what have you he's on-par with their new levels.)

yeah I <3 when they rejoin the party and they're back on par. It restrains me from pulling my hair out when I'm trying to "exp" only to see Rosa getting one-shotted again <.<

wow, you people have low levels. I'm 40-43 and still haven't killed the dark elf. I'm just leveling every now and then until the emulator gets fixed so I can see what I'm doing with gear and items.

It's not that fun anymore if you're too over leveled. I prefer my characters not getting one-shotted though. Level 50 now and just got Edge.

Re: New Final Fantasy IV trailer

I was 55 when I got Edge, mostly because I have a full bestiary and have made it a point to make sure I have it.

I'm not level 73 around the board and I'm in the underground area of the 8 crystal room in the Crystal palace on the moon. Probably going to be about 75 by the time I'm done. Fucking Kain is lagging behind at lvl 67 though, I hate how the characters join parties at their own levels. I don't know what you all are talking about, every time someone joins my party they are still the same level they left at and aren't improved besides changed gear sometimes. When I got Rosa back she was like lvl 20 when my guys were MUCH higher, or something. Over time the differences become negligible but it's still annoying.

    Edit:

I was fighting Zrmaus the final boss or w/e and he is fucking gay. I am overlevel to hell, I beat this guy at like lvl 56 in the SNES version, currently my lowest is 77(Kain) and everybody else is 81-82. He fucking spams Osmose which fucks over my Phoenix Decant which would save my ass when he just so happens to do fucking Meteo right after an Osmose. Right as my fucking Hi-ether is about to go off I hear the magic sound and see the words Meteo and look down at my party's HP all not full but not lower than 2.5k each. The move did fucking 3.5k to everybody and needless to say I wiped and since Kain had no MP to Phoenix with, I game overed. So that was a good oh, 1-2 hours wasted walking through those floors of Behemoths and Huge faces and my total level gain of like 9 levels going through all those floors towards the end. I'm so pissed of, there is literally no way to counter what just happened to me.

IIRC, in the original JP SNES version of the game, you could have Edge steal an item called Dark Matter from the boss's first form to be used on his 2nd form to make him easier. They removed that from the game in SNES version when they dumbed down the difficulty of the game. They may have left this in the DS remake.

Re: New Final Fantasy IV trailer

Well Zeromus never had meteo in any SNES version I've ever played, osmose didn't exist until FF6 (the mp drain spell was called something else in 4), and I've never heard the term Phoenix Decant, so I'm gonna say it's probably a completely different fight now. Also, it never took more than like 30 minutes to reach him from the last save point.

Osmose was in the SNES version, both for the US and in Japan. It just sucked really bad and no one used it.

Ok. I was pretty sure it was called something else, but I might be thinking of that fan translated rom.

Re: New Final Fantasy IV trailer

Oh man, so I just beat the Giant of Babil and went to the moon again to level up and get Bahamut. My leveles are 61(Edge) to 70(Cecil). I got as much gear and such that I can get and I'm trying to level up in Bahamut's cave on the first level. The mages and carys(I think that's what they are called) drop ribbons and minerva robes also. I've got one of each so far, but it's a PITA. The EXP I get there totally blows. My level bar goes over a couple pixes per fight. They also can basicly kill someone in 1 shot with a tier 3 nuke to a single target(3800+) to Edge with the ribbon on. I tried outside on the moon's ground, but the EXPis even worse. Where are people leveling at this point in the game? I'm thinking about going through the Lunar Underground and trying to get what loot I can, come back out and repeat hopefully getting farther and farther each time and gainning some levels too.

Is there still a full heal crystal at the lunar subterrane entrance?

Yes, though that's not what I'm worried about. The big whale has beds/space tubes inside.

Re: New Final Fantasy IV trailer

Do you have the Level Hunt Decant yet? I pretty much went from 65 to my current level of 80-something just in the lunar underground, before you even enter the crystal-ish area. I even when i took level hunt off to fight some boss mobs for weapons (masamune/murasame/holy lance/excalibur/etc) I still got good chunks of xp.

My current abilities set for xp grinding:
    Front Row:
    Kain: Fight/Jump/Darkness/Item/Phoenix (Autobattle Fight)
Edge: Fight/Party Refresh Ability/Steal/Throw/Item (Autobattle Fight)

    Back Row:
    Rydia: Fight/Blackmagic/Summon/Item/MP+50% (Autobattle Fight)
    Cecil: Counter/Long Range/Attract/Level Hunt/Item (Autobattle FIght)
    Rosa: HP+50%/White magic/Fast Cast/Target all/Item (Autobattle Pray)

I can breeze through most mobs in the subterranae with auto-battle except for the big red robot thing, and the blue/red dragons.

To get to where I currently am, I teleported out of the lunar subterranae after every chest with a monster, until I made it to the final save point right next to the Holy Lance and Ribbon bosses. Those trips alone took me from 65-75 while playing on the bus. I made the mistake of not saving once after opening like 3 chests and ended up getting raped by the chest with Red Dragon, and lost like 30-40 minutes of progress.

I also find it pretty amusing that for harder stuff, I pretty much sit there and abuse blink ala FFXI style tanking. I think on my second playthrough I'm going to give Edge the Attract ability so he can main tank (since he can blink himself) which frees up Rosa a bit more from having to recast blink every 3-4 rounds.
