Freelancer NPCs? Where are you!?

She's just missing the line about flattering her with gifts - however it might not be her recruit method as apparently Kagetora gives you a line when you trade him Zinc ore, but it's unrelated to recruitment.

I am thinking it's either :

- Signed alchemy synth
- GP item of the day in the present
- Flowers like Ulla, but ones that are used in alchemic synths
- Heart Chocolate and the like.

That link i posted on the last page MIGHT have had the npc text from Oggbi. I only say might because its in JP so i cant read it and babelfish only does so much. I assume it is because i babelfished what i has written for Kagetora and its pretty easy to see what hes saying and that its what he says in english.

I did notice something strange the other day as well. Kagetora is recruited for Bastok on Asura, however, I ran out to Battallia for a campaign and there he was fighting with :sandy: . I found it a tad strange because I thought he would only participate in Bastok only campaigns. Has anyone else seen this?

nah i checked bastok after i saw him and he was still there. Hes not there for very long. He loves to idle in places where there isnt a campaign going on but i assure you 100% he was still in bastok after i saw him in battallia

Rainemard, and Dalzakk definately are influenced by just being on rdm or mnk. I'd assume any lvl works, but my mnk is lvl 20 and it works at least that low. That leaves Azima and Titania as the only Freelancers who's unknown how to recruit. Rainemard is a little tedious if he's standing at the lake this week, but if he's near the maw it's pretty quick to zone and redo. Dalzakk on the other hand is so tedious, I'm going to end with a 6 period ellipses ......

On remora The sprout is Near the huge crater right down south, fairly easy to avoid the gnats the raptors and goblins have aggroed me a few times but with the zone to Fort being so close its fairly easy.

I haven't the foggiest about Titania, except something to do with the Bottled Pixies maybe.

If Rainemard and Dalzakk really are influenced simply by talking to them on the correct job, perhaps Azima is influenced by talking to her with the Alchemist apron equipped? (Or however Lordwafik got her to re-act) Of course, then again, the bit about being flattered with gifts

I'm gunna guess that's all correct. Bottled pixies only being tradable to one location (even if they eventually add a present-day Grauberg) makes more sense if it's for Titania than if they allowed their existence in the present. Azima's reaction to someone with high alch seemed pretty conclusive, but its possible they did something to compensate for this, since there are fewer high alchs than 20+ MNKs & RDMs. Either it takes fewer people to recruit her or there's another means to gain her favor by this 'gift' giving.

It's also possible that the gift dialog has nothing to do with recruiting her, similar to Kagetora and Zinc Ore.

Meaning those who meet the requirement of high alch should gain a higher amount of influence than other Freelances, to be fair, since any jack-off can get MNK or RDM to 20 or buy some random items off the AH (of course, that would make sense). At any rate, Kagetora doesn't take the zinc. The Azima dialog seems to suggest she takes what's given to her. Rarely is something taken by an NPC without some sort of return.

Maybe it goes even farther though. Maybe in cases like Dalzakk's, the influence given is in direct proportion to the level of the person speaking to him. So you gain something equal to the effort you've put into your job. Something that could also be applied to Azima, just like everything else, there is a minimum...

So other then the challage / puzzle, what is the point of paying / getting NPC's to assist? As it stands the NPC's who show up on their own are ungodly powerful. I paid someone in B Downs, he showed up, but I am pretty sure there was no AN bonus or anything.

Right now it seems like one of the ten comes with the reduced exp loss sigil bonus when they're allied. Other than that there's really no purpose for them, at least for now. It's just something to be done because it can be, and hasn't yet. I suspect that there will probably be a unique sigil bonus for each one added in updates, maybe not. It's just something to do out of curiosity, or boredom, or wanting to move them to an easier to spam zone in case they're made useful eventually.

I'm 99 Gold but have all subs at 60 and she wont give me the dialogue. Not to say the idea isnt possible, I just think its highly unlikely that only a certain amount of ppl have the ability to recruit Azima. By limiting it to being "high lvl alchemy only" that only targets maybe less than 10% of the entire FFXI population? It just seems unlikely that is what is needed to recruit her. It could very well be possible but seems unlikely.

As far as Titania, i havent even messed with anything about this NPC so i have no experience with it, but the bottled pixies sounds like a possiblity but didnt someone post that getting the bottled pixies to drop was insanely hard? Its wouldnt be the only NPC to accept a rare/ex drop (ex. Maat) but testimonies i would say arent exactly hard to obtain but still do require a bit of effort.

Testimonies can take an ungodly amount of time while taking little to no real effort (Pallas/Alky farming), so I think they're comparable to Bottled Pixies.

What I'm wondering now is if the compensation for being a high alch is a higher influence or simply not being forced to give her something.

Maybe SE made Azima only recruitable by Alchemists because we obviously have nothing better to do with our time, since we're clearly not busy making money

I still don't see how to influence the mithra npc once she's allied and not in CN. I read the dat text Rocl mentioned about bringing her things the same way you do in CN, but I cannot see any targets anywhere in town. Maybe it's bugged?

It must move every week, or when someone recruits it then because it's no longer where it was here either. The NPC itself doesn't show up in town like other freelance NPC's. It's not at that spot you pointed out though, so must be another possible location. I'd look for it myself if the zone weren't enormous

With Azima then, maybe speaking to her as a high level alchemist is her "extra" message. But it sounds like a hint that whatever she accepts is created using higher level alchemy.

Got the dialogue. Level 100 (+2) Alchemy, but I didn't have my club or apron with me.

She might be influenced just from Alchemists with a high level, but I really don't know anyone who's not either lvl 1, lvl 60, or lvl 98+ lol.

I'll make some random GP item and trade it to her, see what happens.

Eye drops (current GP item for several skill levels, including the lowest and highest one, which was mine)

Also, talking to her with 100 Alchemy, with Caduceus and Alchemist's Apron on, and Alchemy Support on from belt, did nothing other than give the message shown above about alchemy.

All items were traded both prior to speaking with her, as well as after. About the only thing I could think of I didn't try was talking to her with Alchemy moghancement active. I'll try this when I'm insanely bored again, if she still hasn't been figured out. Also, she's dressed up in BLM garb, if someone wants to try trading BLM scrolls be my guest.

Back to the drawing board, folks.
