    Re: New GTA4 Trailer

It's hard for me to get excited over this new game, when I threw in San Andreas and remembered why I stopped playing it in the first place. I was bored and found my copy of GTA San Andreas, threw it on, started new save since I upgraded from PS2->PS3. I am so spoiled by next-generation games, framerate is awful, textures hideous, and my eyes start to hurt from all the blur.

I also was so bored by the missions, I couldn't find the fun anymore-- It really makes me worry about GTA4. The gameplay just isn't fun anymore, for me, at least. It felt like each mission they'd add another mile to the 'getaway' or the 'drop this guy off' routines. Now I remember why I stopped playing, I had to take a 15min drive JUST to start a mission. I liked GTA3 better, I knew the towns and overall it's simplicity made it an easier game to pick up and play. Here's hoping they do something incredible with 4, I'd be happy if it were completely revamped.. Sandbox style games and their knock offs have ruined the fun. Saint's Row, Assassin's Creed anyone?

Yeah - there really wasn't much point to driving across the landscape unless you were going for 100% completion. :\ Even taking the train took a long time.

That said, I'm hoping that with the game coming back to Liberty City, they make the map smaller again. The game looks visually stunning though.

GTA 1 and 2 were a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed 3 as well. VC and SA were okay overall, but did "innovate" the play a bit more. I hated the story in San Andreas as I felt it jumped around way too much, and it never felt like any evolution was going on. Also, the whole haircut + clothes = rep/pimp status or whatever seemed rather unnecessary, unless you played the game for the having girlfriends aspect.

I'd personally really, really like to see them add a gas gauge to all cars. This way you need a little more strategy in planning your missions so you're not taking the car you've driven 10 game days straight on a mission. It'd make those long getaways more interesting, and add some good challenge to the game. It would also be nice if you could stash cars (as in the game keeps them in memory) in various locations, and switching cars would gradually lower wanted level. Also, an evolving city would be wonderful. I'd like to be able to blow a building up, only to have a construction crew rebuild another one that's different, or leaving the rubble. Lastly, having the equivalent of NMs in game would be pretty cool. Certain gang bosses/under-bosses/etc... roaming the streets where killing them changes the outcome of the game, as well as your reputation/amity with that gang (if seen killing).

I guess I'd personally like the game to take on a very strategic role where the replay value is extremely high due to having so many possibilities. One thing I will say about the GTA series is that the replay value is already phenomenal, which seems rather rare these days. Still, I'll buy GTA4 regardless of the previews (trying to know as little as possible going into it). Non-linear, open-ended gameplay is a selling point for me, thus the reason I enjoy MMOs.

This game can't come soon enough for me. The level of detail that they have put into this game is going to be so much greater than any previous iteration. Plus they already stated that the map won't be huge like San Andreas but we definitely won't be disappointed by the size of the map. Just can't wait to drive through the burroughs and recognize a bunch of stuff from real life.

Dude, those are fucking great ideas. Have you considered working for a video game company?

i played all of them just to do the missions, there's plenty of play time in those games even if you don't play it mindlessly.
