Wide Scan range

This may seem like a stupid question but I did a search and didn't find anything relevant. I've always assumed Wide Scan was based on BST/RNG level but a friend just showed my otherwise so now I'm confused. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Sorry for the huge pics, but as you can see SMN/BST has about twice the range on scan as NIN/BST. Both pictures were taken at the same time so it's not based on BST main level (even when subbed). FFXIclopedia lists it as 20 level increments for both BST and RNG but that's obviously not right according to these pictures.

Ranger Widescan is bigger the BSTs, not sure why changing main job and subbing bst would change this. I rarely /RNG for anything so I couldn't really tell you any similar experiences. But at 75RNG widescan covers roughly 2/5 of Xarcabard if that gives you any kind of information.

edit: I see that your recieving is lower on your nin/bst screenshot. It is not uncommon at all for Widescan to freeze up and stop half way through loading which can give you an incomplete list/fewer icons on the map.

It's not Widescan freezing up.

For some reason Smn/Bst has full range Widescan regardless of Bst level. I can't remember if Smn/Rng is the same way, but I don't think it is. I'm not sure if any other jobs are affected like this, but maybe it has to do with both jobs using pets? I'll check on Drg/Bst and Pup/Bst tomorrow and see if they get the enhanced WS.

Not sure why it's like that, but it's helpful for tracking down stuff.

Maybe it's because if someone actually used SMN/BST SE thinks they deserve a larger widescan due to the lulz they would get?

check and see if it's dependent on the type of radar you have with the said job combo. IE - Small/Large No mobs/Mobs

That's what I initially thought but I couldn't quite remember what style radar smn gets or if its consistent with this widescan thingy.

I actually hated the increased range from Smn/Bst when I would help camp. As /Rng (< Lv.10) I could stand in one spot and hit the entire path with not much extra. But as /Bst I was getting almost the entire zone to scroll through
