    Incorrect. I completely disagree.

GMs? Are Customer Service. Read those two words again. Customer Service.

I've worked Helpdesk, Technical Support, Customer Service, hell even a teller at a bank. Another bad analogy would be...you take your paycheck down to the bank. As the teller is inputting said funds into your account, the computers crash.

When the computers come back up? There's no record of the deposit being made. But because the check has already been stamped, there's no way another institution will touch it. Would you be satisfied if the teller looked at you and went, "Sorry about that. Looks like you're out a paycheck..."?

Now yes, FFXI is an entertainment medium. It's not a fiduciary institution. However, the point is still valid in that the GMs should either be given controls to be able to assist, of GTFO. It appears to me that it's much more of a case where the GMs are hamstrung by "policy", rather than have a possible abuse of power.

It's much easier for the powers that be to put the most restrictive rules in place for the GMs, due to the fact that there's no room for misinterpretation, and thereby no basis for accusations of "unfairness" or "biased" GMing.

By the same token, I'm not disappointed in the "people" behind the red toons. Merely the situations that cause half of the GM calls to be reponded to be "Sorry. Suck it up, Buttercup..."

I'm wondering how many calls were made by people after they read this thread. If you know you're not getting the glass back, don't bother calling. Get over it and stop wasting other people's time. Its already been said, but I'd rather have an emergency maintenance than constantly disconnected.

Anyway, wasn't there an hours notice? OP said he got booted as soon as he entered Dynamis Bastok.

First off, several worlds were disconnected without warning before the maintenance.

Secondly, the warning for the maintenance was given one hour before it started. If you went into Dynamis before this message was issued, you still got screwed.

These are the reasons that people are upset. Some lost hourglasses/orbs/remnant permits from the crash, other lost hourglasses because of the surprise maintenance.

And people should call the GMs about this. Policies don't change because people lie down and take it quietly.

Easily said, if it wasn't your million in gil that bought the hourglass...

And how exactly is it wasting time? It's a problem. A definite problem. If only the affected worlds that crashed, why was every single server taken down. I have severe problems with the fact that there's NO notice at all as to what the "emergency fix" was supposedly repairing...

And since he was on one of the four "special worlds", Fairy? Nope. It just basically went completely dark. There was no notice on those four.

[Edit: Dang it. Septimus obviously types faster than I do...]

That sucks to be in dynamis then get a hr warning about emergency maintaince.

i saw that the GM said that orbs contain "internal data". does that mean that drops are decided when you get the Orb O.o

Pretty sure that would be referring to the cracked/uncracked "switch" that orbs have.

items have hidden flag fields on them. this can be clearly seen in the trial weapons/crit latent weapons. i suspect the orbs are exactly the same.

Exactly... and technically while they could give you 99KS's back... That does not mean that you will pick up the same orb again... They can't force your character to trade an NPC. Thus resulting in an 'unfair' reimbursment.

Oddly enough, if they're able to delete the snowmen which weren't supposed to be in the game in the first place, seems rather easy to take one "flag" as it were on a lamp/orb/hourglass and change it from 1 (used) to 0 (unused). That's unfair reimbursement?

I don't know if GMs have the tools for that. It seems plausible that GMs only have tools to give back basic items.

    Re: Regarding Server Crash 12/06

Wonder off-hand exactly what kind of internal data orbs contain. Are the drops pre-calculated upon receiving an orb? Not that it matters, but just something I was pondering reading the thread.

My sympathy to those who lost gil/orbs/drops because of the maintenance. Like Septimus said, submit feedback in the POL site, don't just roll over and take this. SE is showing some promising signs of changing the game and listening to their customers, so letting them know what's frustrating us is a Good Thing.

As it was said, we were disconnected before any maintenance was ever announced.

Yeah, it sucks, but you have to realize you can't blame GMs for not giving your glass/lamp/etc back. It is beyond their power. Blame SE's tech guys if you want, but the GMs simply can't do anything about it.

    Re: Regarding Server Crash 12/06

My concern wouldn't be that the GMs can't do anything about, but more along the lines that the GMs don't seem to care they can't do anything about it, and seem to show no care if it doesn't go past them.
