Gnoles appear to be under the special category of monsters with innate EXP bonus, probably because they can such trouble under the correct moon conditions.

My XP static tried out hippos in Grauberg (S) tonight, and I have to say I'm in love.

We don't have an uber setup -- our intent is to spent time together and level jobs we want to. PLD, WHM, SMN, BLU, (BLU filling in for our THF), and COR (me). All level 66. I think a PLD tank is probably a must, the hippos were either attacking really fast or tripple attacking on a regular basis.
Hippos aggro, have amazingly limited true sight, and seem not to link (though I wouldn't bet money on that last one). They have MP, much to our BLUs' happiness. There are 17! of them in the room just west of the Campaign outpost guy, so it's really easy to get to and you won't run out of mobs. (There are eles in the tunnel on the way there, and at night there are two undeads.)
I saw no good camps, so you have to remain pressed up against the wall. (We did that right next to the tunnel.) We got no links/aggro that way, even though a few hippos wandered by now and then.
They have a TP move 'Fantod' which acts like Boost and did up to 800 HP damage. (It was our PLD's first death since the 20s.)
We felt like 66 was a little low, 67 would probably be better. XP rocked though, 200-300 for a not-long fight (I wouldn't call it fast, but for that amount of XP it was shorter than usual).
We'll be going back there for as long as the XP holds out.
Oh! And if you bring a COR, you'll get fun bugs like this:

I'd do a roll, then the hippo would erase it while I was doubling up. The text is the minor part of the bug, the more annoying part was that the game acted like I really had the roll on me, so I got the 'can't roll while that's active on you' error for three rolls at a time (which is of course impossible).
Edit: Grammar.
Lol thats awesome.
Hippos dont link, they have limited true-sight like you said.
Thats cool, they have MP in Grauberg... usually Hippogyphs are like BRD-types or WAR iirc.
Nice Thister, My DNC is currently at 67, gonna try that spot later tomorrow
They drop feathers too, for those needing to craft with them. Those Ajjatara (green wyverns) are decent xp with a 5 man merit party. We were getting about 10-14k/hour without really trying. This was with blu brd nin mnk rdm.
We only got those tailfeathers (for the CoP mission thing), but they do drop light crystals, which rock!Originally Posted by rath
They drop normal feathers as well, I was selling them for 50k a piece for about 2 weeks before the market got flooded. Now they are like 10k each.Originally Posted by ThistleChaser
around J5 in saruta the dhalmel herd gives a lv 48 loldrg 20-27 exp.
there are enough elvaan.. I mean dhalmel to support maybe 2 parties.
Trichocyst, I owe you a lot.
I'm currently at the Grauberg camp with 31DRG/BLU, and it's tough, but doable. And here I thought I was gonna have to go away from this wonderful autorefresh.
*posted that it is a good low yhoat level camp a page or so back*
Also watch the south end of the worm spawns, a Goblin roams through and leaves landmines.
Theres also a cave up to the northwest near the south end that has a Ghost in it at night.
A few more levels on DRG you could also probably solo in Vunkerl Inlet around the bridge @ F-8. There's 5 birds spread out between both ends of the bridge with a Pixie that flies between them. I solo'd DNC from 34-37 there just for the piercing bonus.
I saw that spot and was wondering what level it would be good exp at.
I guess in a party it could cover lower GC then?
@37 most of the birds were EM-- with the occasional DC. I didn't fight any of the beetles, but alot of them still conned T. A party looking to skip Garbage Citadel could probably easily do it here. The pops are nicely spread out, the bridge is a safe, pop-free, camp, they repop nice and quick, sigil bonus's are /win, and the Pixie is like icing on the cake.
Hippogryphs normally have MP. I know the riverne ones do, though it's possible certain NM and/or dynamis ones may not.Originally Posted by ronin sparthos
And yeah, that COR glitch is funny, could you keep doubling up on that?
At the top of Zegham hill in N. Gust [S] are a ton of Maneating Hornets that con IT Low Eva / High DEF to my 36DNC without food. They don't aggro, they don't link, they're likely on 5min repops, and there's a pixie roaming around there who didn't cure me or raise me when I thought I could solo one with its assistance, but I'm guessing people on my server have been killing them or something. Anyhow it seems like they should make decent exp at the same level as those Ronfaure Colibri.
I think a ghost or two pops up there at night, so you need to be wary of that if you do plan to level off of them.Originally Posted by Suiram
place the camp on the monument to avoid the ghost (it pops near the ramp leading to the area), all the bee's are pullable from that point.
Careful if you're in that Dhalmel camp in W. Saruta [S], during campaign battles some non-campaign yags (EP to 75s) pop toward the "not zone" north and east. If you stay in the trees though you'll be well clear of them, they generally pop to the northeast and east of the path. There are a bunch of dhalmels that pop over that side too, which is why I mention it, they intermingle and can easily ambush you if you're not watching and they pop.
I haven't worked out exactly what conditions spawn the yags, but they only seem to pop during campaign, and then sometimes a while into the battle (maybe triggered by various waves?). Of course this could be coincidental and they pop for some totally other bizarre reason, but two nights of messing around there trying to avoid them when they came up and that seems to be all I can see that is common between the spawns. Also they seem to walk back up north when campaign was over, and although I didn't see them despawn, they were gone not long after.
That is similar to Garlaige.
You can hang out in the basement without seeing a yag for an hour, then during a Campaign battle one or two DC yags will wander over near where the first Fort is.
Althogh i've never seen them wander too far away; I would like to point out the Crimson Domino III ??? is over that way and you usually have to sneak around them to reach it. So not sure if they spawn in relation to that or other factors.Originally Posted by Linliel
