Even though I don't go to NIU, the fact that the message was written the way it was makes me in no way worried.

I think the fact that you don't go to NIU is what doesn't make you worried, because if I were a college student there and I saw a notice that my school was going to be a target my ass wouldn't be there for sure.Originally Posted by Pyro

Although people do this a lot and are bluffing most of the time, school shootings just happen way too often to take these things for granted any more.
I have several friends that go to NIU![]()
Anybody can make anonymous threats anywhere, and if we all responded to them, we'd get nowhere. I can understand people being worried, but what happens if someone makes a threat like that every day for the rest of the year? Do people just never go to class? Can you cancel the 2008 Olympics all by yourself by merely writing a letter? Could you stop the 2008 presidental debates? At some point, you just have to be cautious, but not give up on everything just because someone makes a threat.
It's easy for me to say since I don't go to NIU, but it's something I think we'll all have to face as a people, eventually.

We live in strange times.
I'd still go to class though.
Well, that's a little different. One threat is just one threat. But if the threats were coming in every day then I'd just suck it up and go in. One day isn't going to break my curriculum but I won't sacrifice my degree just because some asshole wants to be a dick and call in a shooting or actually go and shoot people.
I'm so sorry I hurt your feelings. Grow the fuck up.Originally Posted by Shuemue
This is funny, so if you guys didn't feel like going to college at a certain day, just make an anonymous call and threat to have a shooting spree.
My campus administration stopped taking any threats seriously after a student landed us on CNN last year saying he had anthrax and a bomb. Ended up being powered sugar.Felt sorry for the people they quarantined and scrubbed down until they confirmed what it was. There was a bomb threat earlier this year, and they just barely had the motivation to evacuate the building. Didn't stop them from leaning against the building while waiting for the all-clear though,
.
And you're still studying there? jeez.Originally Posted by Jer
There was a bomb threat at my high school once where we literally had to evacuate so fast people couldn't even take their backpacks with them. Turns out some kids found a briefcase in the bushes, and the first thing they did was to see if it was a bomb by kicking it around.Originally Posted by Jer
Also, I wonder what the school's policy would be if they didn't cancel exams but you still didn't attend because of the threat.
Thinking you're a twat doesn't mean I'm hurt.Originally Posted by Pyro
exams rescheduled for friday...k lol that reminds me office space, "incidents are less likely to occur when we lay people off on a friday"
EDIT: *** JUSTIFIED NECRO-BUMP ***
Holy fucking shit. I'm sick to my stomach now. Looks like this just came true.
