How is writing a note "getting out of trouble"? You act like he's asking for a get out of jail free card. And what does Peyton Manning have to do with anything? Nice job avoiding my question though.Originally Posted by Norelco

The (non-famous) people who worked with him got lesser sentences. The suggested amount of jail time for everything that Vick did is 12-18 months. He got 23.Originally Posted by Octavious
He and others all wrote those notes before the judge handed down sentencing. They all asked the judge to show leniency, thus getting Vick out of trouble (or in this case getting him in less trouble).Originally Posted by Deejay
About Peyton Manning. He's white. This summer I've seen your various arguments on how unfairly harsh people have been on Michael Vick and Barry Bonds, and you seem to be inferring this because they're black. In both cases there seem to be solid evidence against both men. Are you trying to tell me if this same exact evidence was against a white player like Peyton Manning that he'd get a lighter setence (or get off all together) than Michael Vick?
Its already been said, but hes implying that you would tell Peyton Manning to fuck off if he wrote an apology in the same situation.
----------------------------------------
Quite frankly, what Vick did was retarded and cruel, but jesus christ, even without jail I'm pretty sure he has suffered plenty. Lost his job, his endorsements, his good name, etc. He has lost millions and millions of dollars, so I tend to believe him when he says how sorry he is and that hes already learned his lesson.
Because I'm pointing out that if anyone were in the same situation they'd do the same damn thing? What the fuck does this have to do with race.Originally Posted by Creeps

I can't even count the number of subtle, sometimes bold, racist insinuations and comments you've made on these boards Deejay. People that aren't white can be racists too, you know.
On-topic: 23 months is lenient in my eyes for the charges against him. Along with the dog fighting charges, he wasn't honest up front about killing the dogs, which is obstruction of justice and perjury, correct? Also, his dirty drug test was a violation of the terms set for his release and on top of that, he gave conflicting stories of when he did smoke pot. More than enough to put him in jail for 23 months, imo.
I can't be certain but you'd be an idiot to think that it's not possible, but just for the record:Originally Posted by Norelco

I never said what he did wasn't wrong.
I said the media is making this a huge fucking deal for no reason. Sportscenter even had a special on Vick's hometown and "whether or not" it had anything to do with him killing dogs. You're telling me that Sportscenter would have done this story if Brady did it? These are the stupid generalizations that I frown upon. If a black man commits a crime, the first thing people try to say is "lolblack people".
I even remember reading the thread you're referring to. Why? Because after the Vick thread was made it only took about 5-10 posts for someone to make a black joke. So yes, if a white guy did this it would have probably been viewed as an isolated incident. But since a black guy did it then we're all to blame.
I can't even begin to count the number of subtle, bold, but mostly openly raciest comments that have been made on these boards, Creeps.Originally Posted by Creeps

Really? People like you continue to screw people from ever seeing equality in their lifetime. Why don't you bring up the pathetic college argument going on at the moment, it's pretty much af.action for Coaches, lol yea.

Thats inaccurate. Peace and Phillips received longer sentences than were recommended by the federal prosecutors, and they're less because they made plea agreements early while Vick waited it out.Originally Posted by Deejay
12-18 months was the minimum amount of time possible under federal sentencing guidelines. Vick was facing up to 5 years (60 months) for the federal charges, so its still a fairly lite sentence. Vick wouldn't of had the extra time sentenced either if he hadn't of lied and failed a drug test.
Sucks for him though that hes still facing a possible 10 years from state charges.
Totally agree with you, but I can spin that the opposite way too. What if Vick had never been caught, made another $150M, felt incredibly high remorse 10 years from now, and started a foundation to help people?Originally Posted by Octavious
Completely unlikely but if we're talking in terms of hypothetical situation, why not?

lol, when I read this I had this image of Michael Vick at a dog shelter with a little underprivledged kid handing him a puppy...jesus it made me laugh... lolOriginally Posted by Xavier
Yea, I agree you can spin it either way, but you know human nature, remorse isn't exactly something everyone has sadly. =/
And yea, the media would cover anything for a story...(see anything Britney Spears Related)
I actually started laughing too at the mental image while typing that.
It is a pretty big deal, in my opinion. Here you have a guy who is on top of the world. He's got a huge NFL contract, millions of dollars in endorsements, and he goes and throws it all away for gambling/dog-fighting.Originally Posted by Deejay
I think it's also a big deal because of the alleged cruelty involved with these animals.
I can't say for sure if Sportscenter would have done this story if Brady did it. I think they would. I mean hell, look at the media storm that surrounded the Pete Rose scandal. The guy was crucified by the press and the American public.
I'm sorry you see things like that, Deejay. I just don't think it's the case.
Its funny how some people are so stubborn or ignorant that they see this as a race issue and that we are out to get Mike. He didn't get the extra months because he is black or he is a superstar (*was). Learn to read the facts. He was the last to take a plea deal which means he really had no leverage unlike his three buddies. He lied so many times about his involvement. He did drugs while on probation and he knew he have to take drug tests. He NEVER accepted responsibility for his actions for goodness sakes. He was like a small child always changing his story so he'd never have to admit the real truth. And for all of that, he will be staying in jail an extra 6 months.
Its funny how people still think its a race issue. Its definitely not a race issue when the Reverend Al Sharpton and all other black leaders don't even touch it.
Isn't that the media's job though? I think that if Peyton Manning was caught for a significant crime (getting in a bar fight or something doesn't cut it) there would be an even bigger deal made of it, because he's a lot more famous than Vick was before this story.Originally Posted by Deejay
It's not, IMO, as much a race issue here as it is a culture issue. If Brett Favre, growing up in Kiln, Mississippi, had been charged with this, you're goddamn right they would point to where he's from in discussing these charges. This shit is completely "WTF" to most americans, myself included, who have never seen a dogfight, never known of anyone who has been to one, etc. etc. - but the deep south is a fucked up place, and many "WTF"-inspiring things seem at least somewhat commonplace, if not "normal" to people who are from there.Originally Posted by Deejay
