"M" is usually associated w/ Mobile graphics cards which are in laptop computers. Nvidia uses "M" or "Go" to identify their mobile series graphics cards while ATI uses "M" for theirs.

I looked at the supported cards for 169.17 and I didn't see a single "Go" card on there. So it's no surprise why the 169.17 would kill your laptop... You are using drivers not supported for your product. Download the right drivers and you should be fine.
Now to all the other laptop users using these drivers..... Please read the release notes. Most of your cards are not supported through 169.17 or 169.21. So if you have any problems after using these driver that is probably why. Someone mentioned on the first page the actual website to go to for laptop users.

Nvidia's 169.17 series drivers are wonderful for Windows XP and Windows Vista users. The only issue I have found so far w/ both series is after playing Call of Duty 4 and going back to FFXI my PC/NPC models don't show up. This happens more w/ the 169.17 series than the 169.21 series.
