    8800 Ultra > 8800 GTX > 8800 GTS 512MB > 8800 GT 512MB > ATI 3870 > ATI 2900XT > ATI 3850 512MB > 8800 GT 256MB

in a few situations, depending on resolution/AA or AF, certain cards may perform as well as others (ex. 8800 GTS 512MB can put up identical numbers as the 8800 GTX, but only in resolutions lower than 1920x1200 and without AA enabled)

Re: New Nvidia drivers for FFXI.

I have the 8800GTX and the lag on my vista comp with FFXI has plagued me for what seems like an eternity since I installed it, so much so that I used an older IDE HDD of mine to put FFXI on and basically just used that HDD (which is XP) for FFXI, and Vista for the rest of my games. I downloaded the 169.17 series drivers seeing hopes that people said it totally fixed. I was sorely mistaken as the game still runs supremely better on my XP hdd. Now I'm not sure if 23fps is okay with the rest of you, and if you think 23fps = good then by all means you're right it fixed the problem for you. But for me I almost always get capped fps unless for some reason I have full shadows up at say WG AH or something of the sort, which it drops to maybe 25fps from 29.w/eitisatthetime. This just made it not as horrible, but if i turn full shadows on, which my XP can easily support my vista goes crazy like Roxxo the Clown when he sees cocaine. If anybody knows of a fix or a further update of some sort that will return my Vista FFXI to the smoothness and playability of my XP, so much so that i take over all my windower scripts and all other macros for FFXI, then please let me know. But for those of you who are looking and considering doing this, I wanted to tell my side of the story, since there seems to be so many saying it's a complete fix, which it is not for me, by my standards.

i'm not getting 29.4 in almost all zones like i was when i was using vista + ati x1950XT 512MB PCI-e card, but with the new drivers it definitely improved my laggy whitegate AH area from 3-4fps to 14-15fps

    thats a huge improvement

Improved definitely, but for those reading this I don't want them swapping to vista to realize it's not fixed at all and to be sorely disappointed as I was. 20fps may be fine for some people, but it sure isn't for me.

On my Nvidia 8800gt 512mb the 169.17 is a dramatic improvement over 169.25 and also 169.28. Crysis however runs best on 169.25. I switch drivers 2-3 times a day, its that big a difference.

I downloaded the .17 driver and it helped a lot; am using vista-32 bit and 8800GTX videocard. Brought my fps from 3 to 15+ in aery tonight. ^^

Since you have a laptop, you need the modified inf file

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/ind ... opic=16428

DL and extract the driver, then DL the modified inf and replace the file in that extracted folder

Is there a quicker, or even different, way to update the drivers without using that driver cleaner program?

Also, if you're using a GeForce GO 7600, you don't need these drivers anyways. If your FFXI was working before there is no reason to change your drivers.

I will confirm this 1st hand. The .17 drivers were magic for my xp machine running a 7600 GT, but my 7600 Go vista ultimate 64bit laptop saw no noticeable change, although it was working well before.

Still using the .17 drivers on my Vista / Geforce8600GTS system. Only thing I have seen that hasn't been up to snuff regarding these drivers is that Avatars seem to give me more lag than I used to get on XP professional on the same card. I.E - The summoner/beastmaster pull in Dynamis-Xarc near Animated horn dropped my FPS lower than I would like, and the same happened last night in dynamis-windurst at death house. I suppose it could just be dynamis lag, large amounts of mobs, etc, but it seems a bit worse than it should be comparing it to XP. Regardless, I'm pretty damn satisfied with the .17s all around.

Ditto. I haven't been on my SMN enough to notice, but tonight in Xarcabard, someone came as SMN. I couldn't figure out why my FPS was at 10 1/2 the run, then would jump back to 25ish. I finally realized it was the SMN's avatar that was out Q_Q.

Guess we'll have to deal until they fix it, if ever. Seems very similar to the lag I was getting in Al'tieu and its connecting areas sometime back before it was patched.

Re: New Nvidia drivers for FFXI.

Currently running NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS video card on a laptop computer.

I've never had huge issues with lag before, but hearing some of the glory stories of lag free whitegate and fixes to certain spells that generate lag I downloaded and installed one of the drivers. Seemed to make the game lag more overall so I rolled my drivers back and forgot about it.

Lately I've been noticing lag spikes with certain bard spells and firaga II or III I forget which exactly. Has anyone else had problems with these drivers and not been able to get them to work, or is it possible that I just may have installed the wrong one?

    Just don't use it?

I have never used driver cleaner. If you install the drivers properly they will always* overwrite the older/newer driver.

*Sometimes installations won't let you install over a newer driver, in that case just manually do it from the device manager.
