New Nvidia drivers for FFXI.

I tried installing the .17 driver, but it says my driver is already up to date. Then I tried uninstalling my current driver through the device manager, which worked (but messed up my display pretty good) and tried to install the .17, but during the installshield it gave me a message like: 'this driver is only compatible with vista 32-bit, canceling installation blah blah blah' when of course, I have the 32-bit version of vista. How can I get around this?

the .17s came out like a week after people started running xp drivers on vista machines and it was posted on nvidia's boards

Out of curiosity is anyone experiencing disappearance of all players/npcs using nvidia drivers? I see nobody at all, but can see text magic going off, and when someone leaves zone via magic I see their name briefly. It's almost like everyone is invisible and I can not target them as well as npcs and AH's, ect.

I've noticed it starting at some point after I upgraded to 169.21 close to the end of December and i just tried 169.28 beta, but it still happens. Using Geforce 8600 GTS card. I haven't experienced it before and I haven't tried to roll back the drivers, but before try the rollback, I'm curious if anyone has been having this issue.

I sometimes dual log, but I haven't dual logged in a couple of weeks and I haven't had it happened while dual logged. I don't think i was using these new drivers while dual logging.

*Edit* guess it's not driver related sorry, I saw everything disappear as soon as i went to play a media file in WMP. Don't know what would cause that, but it start sometime at or around when i upgraded graphic drivers. so still unsure if that is related.

i also have issues with windows media player + ffxi. however on mine my entire system locks and i have to reboot

Maybe it's not wmp, but is the drivers. I was using media player classic and nothing disappeared, but when i woke up at some point when i was sleeping everything went poof. Going to try to rollback the drivers I guess to the 163.75 or 162.18 which are the latest ones I still have on hdd before installing 169.21.

Anyone know of a database site with all nvidia driver releases? I looked around on nvidia's actual site, but couldn't find.

Happens at random for me. Usually sometime when I switch to another application and fullscreen it over FFXI, but it doesn't happen every time.

So technically with a 2.4C2D CPU 8600GTS 2xgig ram on 32bit-XP should i get 29FPS everywhere? I'm using the .17 drivers and i get 15fps at whitegate AH with shadows off and lowest character models. Anyone with same setup except Vista get anything higher? Trying to decide if i want to upgrade to vista cause ive been hearing a lot of people are getting 29fps everywhere including dynamis with new drivers and vista on 8x00 series gfx cards

You will never get 29fps everywhere with FFXI.

hmm after installing these drivers the only lag im getting now is that my screen gets stuck for a split second every second, anybody else get this problem at all?

my friend basically has same setup as me and uses .17 drivers. He has 29fps in dynamis-xarc with shadows off and lowest character models option. I can't break 20fps with those settings.

That's one area. Park it in front of the mog house in Whitegate or the AH in Whitegate. I guarantee you that doesn't stick at 29fps once everyone loads. You could run CRYSIS at 60fps flawlessly and FFXI would STILL not be able to hold 29fps in a packed aery with the same setup. This is assuming you don't do something stupid like set a 256x256 background to force yourself to 29fps.

Hitting 29fps in Dynamis is pretty easy actually.

turning bg res down to 256x256 doesn't affect my FPS in anyway. this is why i suggest there's something wrong with ffxi and my card. Also how is sitting at whitegate AH with lowest char models on and shadows off less of a load than full xarc with lowest models on with a shit ton of animations going off?

I'm wondering if I should give this a shot... my ffxi runs okay (A little choppy at times), but I'm pretty horrible with this technical shit. Could someone tell me if

A) Trying this driver switch would help my setup?

quad-core 6600
nvidia 85000
3g of ram

and...

B) Would anyone be willing to PM me instructions/walk-through on how to change all of these things? AIM would be cool as well, as I have a laptop next to my PC(This is for my Vista PC btw).

Well i uninstalled the latest nvidia drivers and rolled back to v.158.22, and my uptime has been about 3 days now with no problem so far. I don't get it, because i thought the new drivers were supposed to be better for this game.

Firs 170 drivers I've found. They work great with FFXI for me. They still fix the problem that the 169.17 drivers fixed, only they seem less buggy.
