You tried these on your desktop system? (I saw the link and assumed it was a mobile GPU driver)Originally Posted by Izzy
And if it fixes the dual boxing on vista thing, I will be very happy...
Thanks Izzy.
The laptopvideo2go drivers work on all GPU's. The laptopvideo2go drivers just have all the mobile cards added into the inf along with the desktop cards. I just like using the laptopvideo2go drivers because they catch drivers in places I never see lol.Originally Posted by terraflarex
Ok, I'll give them a try when I get home.
Thanks very much Izzy.
I don't know what causes it either, but I rolled back my drivers to a way earlier version and no disappearing npc/mpbs. Although I do lock up on occasion while dual boxing with the drivers I'm using. Thinking about rolling them back to another earlier version I have laying around to see if it fixes that issue.Originally Posted by testdummy
what drivers are people using to stop the dissapearing npc crap? much love if you could post a link to them too
I get 29-30fps constantly with my rig, no matter where I am. The only downside is not all character models appear. I have max shadows, max detail, everything.Originally Posted by Izzy
i get 29 fps at whitegate ah after character models load. before they load i do not.
They seem to have every card covered except mine (GeForce 7000M/nForce 610M).. it's really annoying that I can't figure this out. My window has been doing a lot of the 'encountered an error' and closing thing, couldn't stay in dynamis more than 5 minutes at a time. I'm about to throw this thing out the window -.- Goddamn laptops..
ty izzy, gonna install the 171.16 vista x64's in a bit and see if they improve my framerates in crysis, frontlines, etc (the 169.17's are worse for pretty much all my other games other than FFXI, because NV didn't add the FFXI fix into the rest of the 169.xx series for some reason)
If that's the case...I want your video card rofl.Originally Posted by shaddix

so yeah
changing drivers every time you change games is fun =)
Yea, even these new 171.16 drivers aren't as good as the XP drivers. So, I find myself installing XP's nVidia drivers on Vista just to get a good performance boost.Originally Posted by Acorn
Im harnessing the raw quadcorez of my system to run my 7950 and keep 30 fps as often as possible, the primary things that will bring it down are when I go into a huge area and have draw distance turned up really far, the only one that really puts a hurt is certain dyna-beau places and apollyon
Avatars, Maws, and Telepoints kick my ass so bad. FPS drops incredibly low for some reason.Originally Posted by Sonomaa
Tried both 169.17 and 171.16. both driver are same when i go to whitegate AH. FPS dropped to 5~11.
I'm running on 8600M GT DDR3 @ Vista.
setting: 1280 x 800 and background 1024 x 1024.
But when run on original FFXI, (without windower) seem FPS back to acceptable rate.
Performance has been abnormally low for me as well. My old A64 x2 system @ 2.4ghz with a 7800GT used to be able to record Dynamis Lord fights while keeping FFXI at 30FPS. This new laptop (2.4ghz C2D, 8400m), even with the 169.17 drivers, isn't capable of hitting 30FPS while watching 5 mobs onscreen in Carpenter's Landing, with lower settings than the desktop.Originally Posted by Silvez

Anyone know if these drivers stop crashes while using windower in Vista?
I've been trying to figure this out since I got my new Vista PC about a month ago. No luck with the 169.xx or 171.xx drivers. This is a horribly frustrating issue for me since it doesn't click in my head how a windowed mode set by the application can work, yet windower (serving the same function) = death. I'm soooo not an IT person so though I'm aware that there is a technical reason for it, I couldn't possibly understand it. A friend said it might be a DX10 thing.Originally Posted by Halion
I've tried a lot of resolution and background settings to no avail. Even setting windower configuration to the exact same as your xi config program and running zero plugins (meaning all its doing is the exact same is windowed mode and nothing more) is the same death. Past that, despite being unable to stretch the window in POL or XI without stretched pixel death--also something I don't understand--the game does look lovely and lets me do everything on full settings. I have the 171thingies now. Sigh.![]()
