If you mean take the modded .inf file and place it into the new driver folder, after deleting the original one it came with, then yes I did.

You most likely did everything you needed to do. I also have the same card as you on my laptop with vista 32bit. It says in the update that the card would work with this driver but it doesn't. You will always get the blue screen of death with this card. One reason is that this card was heavily modded to support hot keys for the laptop itself. When this is done it keeps Nvida/laptop2go from doing good updates for this card. These updates will not work for you, best thing you can do is say hello to Mr.Xp again like i did ;p

Re: New Nvidia drivers for FFXI.

I think I need to rephrase what I was asking. Sorry for the confusion.

After installing the 169.17 driver I got a huge boost of performance, but not as good as I'd expect. I think my P4 3.2 ran better fps...
    I'm running on:
e6600, 8800gtx, vista ultimate x64 -- when not overclocked it's more than enough for ffxi imo.

I have not ran ffxi on win xp on this computer so I have no idea if it would run better or not.

    I'm just wondering if:
    A) I should take off vista and put on XP and I'd receive a dramatic increase in fps (25+ always)
    B) Try and find a winXP driver and see if that might work like the 169.09, or
    C) ffxi is incapable of running at 25+ fps at all times because of directx 8.

I just really want to know if you run winxp and have a great machine what kind of fps do you get in congested areas?

Laptops made by HP/Dell/etc. are designed to not work with the default drivers. The only way you can get an installable package for these laptops is to get the drivers straight from HP/Dell's website.

Go download the 169.17 from lv2g
extract files to a new directory
    replace inf file
    run setup

If it's not working, you're doing it wrong.

If that's the case, Yabby, I might have to go out and upgrade to XP some time later

I don't believe the 169.17 drivers are supposed to work with a card as old as 6150. If that's not the case, then there's something wrong with:
    A) Your video ram
    B) Your computer's ram
    C) Something else odd I'm overlooking.
Install them again, and tell me what "STOP" message you get. (should look something like 00x00000000, 00x00000000, etc.) This identifies what the problem is.

Well, I bit the bullet and went back to XP. Massive performance increases across FFXI.

Sad I can't use pretty Vista. Happy FFXI runs like it should.

I'm going back to vista tonight and copying over the playonline folder to my laptop so that I dont have to sit here for a 4 hour update. what else do I need to copy over to skip the update process?

8800GTS 640MB (I've had his card for a year, not worth upgrading yet.. imo)
    4GB DDR2 @ 4-4-4-12
    Vista Ultimate x64

Windower works as normal too (though I've read on their forum that it'll work then not work.. so hoping that doesn't happen to me). Using the 169.17 drivers. I run FFXI at 1280x720, 1600x1600 background res.

I wonder if 64bit processors handle FFXI differently.

Re: New Nvidia drivers for FFXI.

FFXI itself is a 32bit application. A 64bit processor, in a 64bit environment would have to run FFXI in a backwards compatibility mode. Most likely FFXI would take a minor performance hit in a 64bit environment. I really don't know though since I don't run a 64bit OS on my computer. What I can tell you though is a 64 bit processor pretty much handles FFXI the same as 32bit. A lot of 64bit processors can natively switch on the fly from 64bit processes to 32bit processes, which FFXI is. Personally, I run a Athlon64 6000+ X2 (Dual-Core) on WindowsXP(32BIT) and it works great. Perfect (30) FPS in dynamis, or 100+ PCs Fafnir crapfests.

Re: New Nvidia drivers for FFXI.

Anyone know if any of the Drivers available help with FPS stuttering for XP users?

Running on my 8800 GTS my FPS will go from 25 to 3 in the Blink of an eye regardless of whether I'm in Whitegate or inside MH and stay there for a second or two. Enough time to make Party and Solo play a chore.

Tried the current official .21 release Drivers and the .17 Beta to no avail.
Kind of at wits end since my laptop used to be my gaming system (ATI Card) but it tends to cook my palms.

I never had that problem back on XP.. just framerates dropping to like 10 whenever more than 15 or so characters loaded on my screen. Was using whatever the official drivers were at the time as well.

I'll give it a try later tonight and see if it does anything for the laggy spots (telepoints, avatars, etc) on Vista. Outside of that, I don't really have any issues.
