So far there's only one bug with the 174.74 drivers for me: Mobs stay the red when you nuke them with fire. Sometimes stay blue with water. This is with a core 2 duo e8800, geforce 8800gt 512mb. Other than that, capped fps every, for everything lol.

has anyone done a fresh install of the 174.74s on vista x64 and had ffxi working properly?
i installed 174.74 and ffxi was working right, then last night i went back to 169.17s because sli is messed up with 174.xx. but now pol crashes after the splash screen. installed 174.74s again, still crashes, uninstalled/reinstalled pol still crashes.
bah.
8800gtx ko = 9-10fps at the auction as well.
oh well, can't delete XP just yet I guess.
did you try the 169.17s
Remember the Nvidia installation process is SHITTY. If you're upgrading/downgrading a lot, there's a good chance something got corrupted somewhere and they didn't install correctly. I posted a small guide on the last page for how to completely remove then install drivers, if you have problems with the new drivers do that.
Also SLI should work fine with the beta drivers, if they aren't make sure SLI is OFF when you go to install them .
I edited the quote for my system but the 174.74 drivers didn't help me much, I followed the list on the other page too. Lets see who can help me the fastestOriginally Posted by Captain N

Same problem as a lot of people here.
Upgraded to Vista Ultimate, reformatted, reinstalled FFXI and put these drivers on for Vista 32bit, now instead of having max fps everywhere, anywhere with 2+ people gives me 5-6 fps MAXIMUM.
I'm using a GeForce 8800GT, this should not be happening.
174.74 fixed every issue i had from low fps in dense areas to not being able to play videos on my other screen without getting strange green lines and then pc locking up
woot!
using an XFX 8800 GTS for the record
When you say "these drivers" which version are you talking about? there are quite a few links spread out in the thread. I also run 32-bit Vista, and had the same problem as you, until I installed the 174.74 version.Originally Posted by Tymon
I want to make sure that I'm in the right place. I switched from PS2 to PC platform a few months ago. I got a nice new nVidia GeForce 8400 GS for the Vista-32 system and everything has been cool until a day ago when I started getting this error message:
This shit is wreaking havoc upon POL.Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding, but has succesfully recovered.
Since I am a simple motherfucker I have to ask, will installing these beta version drivers most likely resolve my issue?
This is a well documented problem with ALL of the nvidia drivers. Google that error you'll find about a million articles and forum posts about it. Long story short is you should completely uninstall and reinstall your drivers and hope that it fixes it. Most of the time it's a driver conflict, but a lot of people keep getting it despite reinstallinations, driver updates, ect. Hope you're not one of those people D:Originally Posted by Linktri
I've just got round to installing the 174.74 drivers and OMFG they fixed lag big time on Sony Vaio running vista 32.....
However the next time I logged in my macro bars or menu bar would disappear, I've worked out that everytime a line of text loads in the log window it makes them disappear so if I remove all the lines of text in the log window my macros or menu reappear. Any ideas anyone had anything similar?
I've worked out it's windower 3.3 as 3.26 works fine so now whats up with 3.3
NVIDIA just released the Forceware 175.12 beta drivers for Vista today. Anyone willing to give them a try and report back with FFXI performance? (I don't have FFXI for PC, yet... but I will in two days!)
Trying 175.12. The "renaming fix" didn't do shit.
After almost a full day of troubleshooting this Nvidia card and it's drivers, I finally said "Fuck it!" and returned the damn thing to the retailer. I picked up a shiny new 1GB ATI and it works a MFT (metric fuck-ton) better than the Nvidia did. No lag at campaign battles or anything. I'm pleased... for now.
In conclusion: fuck Nvidia for Vista.
I have a dell inssiron 1720 with a GeForce 8600M GT. I've been looking on nvidia's site for a updated driver so I can run ffxi on my laptop, but I haven't found anything for the M series. Are they the same drivers as the regular 8600 GT, or am I just looking in the wrong area? I'm not sure if it matters, but this laptop runs Vista Home Premium.
In my opinion:
Futile:
producing no result or effect; "a futile effort"; "the therapy was ineffectual"; "an otiose undertaking"; "an unavailing attempt"
bootless: unproductive of success; "a fruitless search"; "futile years after her artistic peak"; "a sleeveless errand"; "a vain attempt"; "Finding working drivers for Nvidia is fucking futile."
Alright well, I had upgraded the drivers awhile back, but for some reason my SLI had been turned off. Even though the same drivers were installed on both cards, for some reason turning on SLI brings back the lag that upgrading the drivers got rid of. I'm sure theres been posts some where in this thread regarding the issue, and sorry for the bump kinda but I couldn't find anything doing a search. But if anyone has a solution to the problem I'd appreciate the help.

It's really simple.... FFXI does NOT work on SLI so leave it off.Alright well, I had upgraded the drivers awhile back, but for some reason my SLI had been turned off.
